Role
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to inspire, support and lead Sanctuary First, the Church of Scotland online worshipping community. This is a wide and varied role with responsibility for the continual development of on-line and digital expressions of worship, witness, nurture and service.
You will bring your leadership qualities to work alongside a core team of creative individuals and our long-standing partners and with your ability to network you will seek new partnership opportunities to collaborate with.
As a Church of Scotland Minister of Word and Sacrament your thorough understanding, knowledge and passion of current and future practice of all digital forms of Church will lead us in our expansion of online worship and the production of blogs, videos, podcasts and original music.
With your ability to engage and enthuse and respond to a rapidly changing and complex context you will research and build on the increased demand for thoughtful worship, mission and ministry resources online.
As Sanctuary First operates as a SCIO of the Church of Scotland, you will need to have a firm understanding of governance and financial issues as they relate to OSCR and charity compliance along with a proven track record in planning and organising delivering work to deadlines and within budgets.
We want to enable as wide a range of candidates to apply as possible and so in recognition that this post holds a wide range of accountabilities, we are open to applications being submitted on a part-time or job-share basis where individuals are able to demonstrate specific skills and experience for all or parts of the role.

The Presbytery of Lothian and Borders ( Presbytery of Lothian and Borders ) offers an exciting opportunity for someone who is visionary, approachable and passionate about mission and the work of, and reform in, the Church of Scotland and who is willing to help shape Presbytery to best serve God and its communities.
The Presbytery was established on 1 January 2023 when the former Presbyteries of Duns, Jedburgh, Lothian and Melrose and Peebles came together as part of the reform programme established by the General Assembly.
Currently the Presbytery consists of 86 congregations in 57 charges; however as we continue to implement our Mission Planning process this may change. We have developed a set of planning principles in order to bring one cohesive Presbytery plan into being.
The successful candidate will lead a team consisting of a part-time Administrator and a full-time Mission officer as well as working closely with the Buildings Officer appointed by both the Presbytery and the General Trustees. We are seeking an individual who will bring experience of the Church of Scotland, inspirational leadership and flexibility on working practices to respond to the changing needs of our presbytery. The Presbytery Clerk is a key support to those serving in our parishes, such as Ministers, Deacons, MDS, Readers and voluntary office bearers.
The successful candidate will be expected to live within the bounds of the new Presbytery to facilitate an understanding of the needs of the people we serve.

About the role
As the Registered Manager, you will be an experienced leader leading a team working with individuals who have a wide range of support needs, providing them with practical and emotional support and encouraging them to achieve their own personal outcomes in all aspects of their daily lives e.g. keeping safe, meaningful activities, community involvement, physical health, relationships, emotional health and wellbeing.
As the Registered Manager you will:
- Maintain the continuing relevance of services to individuals’ needs and purchaser requirements by ongoing planning, monitoring and evaluation.
- Oversee the financial aspects of the service, managing significant budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources and making financial decisions.
- Where a need or an opportunity is identified, lead on the development of new services, support business growth and maintain reputational excellence.
- Comply with governance, law and legislation including local authority compliance, Care Inspectorate (at level 5 and above), SSSC and safeguarding procedures.
- Support the senior management team in the streamlining, promotion and monitoring of quality assurance systems which meets the needs of individual services as well as the overall service delivery in the region.
- Develop, monitor and implement supervision and appraisal systems for staff.
About You
You will have passion and drive to take forward a well-established Service and Team. Be passionate; and committed to the overall aims and objectives of the service and have the belief that people can live fulfilling lives with the right support in place.
You should also have:
- Experience of working with vulnerable people and leading a service delivery team, including managing the provision of a safe operating environment in a relevant context.
- The ability to negotiate with a wide range of internal and external partners and build positive relationships including local authorities and housing associations.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to effectively prioritise your own time and workload to meet a number of different and competing tasks in sometimes pressurised environment.
- Social Service and Health Care at level 9 (SCQF) or other speciality/qualification recognised by the SSSC for registration purposes as well as a relevant management qualification.

Central Services Committee
Providing the support functions to the Church and to the Councils of the Church, the Central Services Committee (CSC) recruit for areas such as Central Properties, Human Resources, IT, Law and Office Management.
Central Services also supports recruitment for the Office of the Assembly Trustees, the Office of the General Assembly, Faith Action Programme, as well as other committees, to provide support in areas of administration, outreach and strategy.

About the Department
The General Trustees are the property-owning arm of the Church of Scotland. The Trustees have an extensive portfolio of buildings and land throughout Scotland which they manage on behalf of local congregations. The General Trustees are supported by professional staff based in their offices in central Edinburgh, including, surveyors, solicitors, health and safety and fire safety advisors, and a business support team.
Context of the Role
This role will primarily work to provide administrative support across the General Trustees Business Support Team who provide adminsitrative support to the wider General Trustees staff and the Trustees.
The post will work in a hybrid manner, with a maximum of 3 days per working week required in the office and the remainder from home.
