Recruitment of New Board Members and Trustees

Fife Law Centre is currently seeking to recruit Board members with various skills, including financial management, Third Sector organisations and their purposes in Fife, and statutory bodies e.g. local government and health.

Fife Law Centre was established in 2009 and is a registered charity, constituted as a company limited by guarantee. It is the product of the vision of local agencies and providers who saw a need for accessible and specialist legal services for clients served by the Third Sector in Fife. These founding agencies are now our partners as we seek to provide for those with unmet legal needs.

We operate as a Board which sustains and supports a private legal firm, Fife Community Law Ltd, which itself is regulated by the Law Society of Scotland.

The purpose of the Board is to set the strategic direction of, and secure the resources for, Fife Law Centre, and to work with the Principal Solicitor to support the delivery of services. Our principal funders are Fife Council and the Scottish Legal Aid Board, under the Making Justice Work Project.

The current focus of legal work is on cases of homelessness, welfare law, supporting victims of domestic violence, employment and immigration. Matters in other fields are dealt with at the discretion of the Principal Solicitor.

The Board meets 5/6 times a year in a formal setting, with Board members taking a lead in different topics, occasionally in work groups.

UHI Perth (in common with many colleges across the sector) continues to face some challenges around financial sustainability, and as part of the process of addressing these challenges is undertaking a 3-year Financial Recovery Plan. With such challenge comes opportunity, and if you have the right mix of skills and experience, particularly if you have recent senior-level background in finance, accountancy, or corporate governance, we want to hear from you.

A position on our Board requires commitment to the work of the College and the community, an interest in the post-16 education sector, and effective communication and analytical skills.

Membership is voluntary and unpaid, but brings huge rewards to members - input can make a real difference to the education and prospects of our learners and to the wellbeing and success of the communities where they live.

Attendance at meetings of the Board and Committees is required, usually early evening, and reasonable travel costs for Board business are reimbursed.

About the Role

As Lead Practitioner, you will take a key role in delivering and developing high-quality support for individuals involved in the justice system. You will provide one-to-one and group-based interventions that help participants build confidence, access training or employment, and strengthen wellbeing and resilience.

Working within a trauma-responsive and person-centred framework, you will:

  • Support individuals with a range of convictions and complex barriers to manage their barriers to employment.
  • Coordinate and monitor caseloads, ensuring effective action planning, review, and reporting.
  • Provide guidance and reflective support to team members, contributing to consistent practice standards.
  • Build strong partnerships with local agencies, employers, and stakeholders to enhance opportunities for participants. Including Job searching, applications, prospective employer contact, volunteering and work experience opportunities
  • Collect and record data in line with funder requirements and service quality standards.
  • Support participants to understand and safely manage disclosure of complex convictions (Full training given)
  • Develop appropriate disclosure statements
  • Navigate licence conditions and statutory restrictions in relation to employment, training, and volunteering
  • Liaise with justice and public protection partners to ensure safe, coordinated and risk-informed progression for individuals
  • Provide guidance to employers, where appropriate, to enable safe and sustainable placements

About You

You will bring experience of working with people facing multiple disadvantages, ideally within justice or employability services. You will have strong communication skills, a compassionate and strengths-based approach, and the ability to motivate others towards change. A driving licence is essential.

Practitioner (National Upside Service)

Apex Scotland offer a diverse range of services for young people and adults to help them break down barriers to employment, engage in education, or integrate into their communities.

We are looking for a full time Practitioner to join our team in our National Upside Service at 35 hours per week, covering the Tayside area.

The post will present an opportunity to cover our service we deliver in partnership with Access to industry, Action for Children, Barnardo’s, Circle, Families Outside, Sacro and Turning Point Scotland. Upside is a national throughcare service, available in all parts of Scotland. Throughcare provides people in short-term custody or remand with the practical and emotional support they need to transition to community life. The Service will achieve this by working in partnership with the Scottish Prison Service, Community Justice Social Work and other agencies across Scotland to ensure our approach of focusing on meeting people where they are, addressing immediate challenges, and helping them build sustainable futures within their communities are met.

The successful applicant will have experience of working in a community environment and an understanding of Throughcare support would be an advantage. There will be some travel throughout the country therefore a driving license or access to a means of transport is essential.

The right candidate will have an aptitude for working collaboratively with participants, prison workers, SPS, social work and other partners. Offer a tailored and responsive engagement experience to our participants in a person-centred way. The candidate must be able to complete dynamic and robust risk assessments and follow safeguarding practices. An understanding of Prison Throughcare would be an advantage, as would knowledge and experience in working with databases. You would need to demonstrate flexibility and the ability to work in partnership. Some travel may be required therefore a driving licence and/or access to a means of transport would be an advantage. This post is funded until end of March 2028 and may require some evening or weekend working.

Membership of the Prevention of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is required.

This is an exciting time to join Scottish Huntington’s Association with the launch of Standing Tall: A Strategy For Growth 2023 - 28 to transform the care and support of Huntington’s families.

It follows two years of expansion in specialist teams, increased funding, a rise in media engagement, growth in parliamentary support for our work, and the success of our ground-breaking Dance 100 events.

Providing support to the Huntington’s Disease Specialist team in our Lanarkshire Service, the part-time Admin/Resource Worker has a key role to play in the specialist team which provides care management, specialist assessment and regular emotional support to individuals, and their families, throughout Lanarkshire. The service works in partnership with, and provides training and education to, local Health and Social Care teams, professionals and voluntary agencies involved in all aspects of Huntington’s disease care.

We invite applications from candidates with administration experience and excellent communication, IT and interpersonal skills. You will be competent in using databases and spreadsheets and have working knowledge of NHS IT applications and audio typing. You will also be able to carry out basic budgetary tasks, manage the HD Specialist team’s diary and take minutes of team meetings.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, motivated and takes great pride in the work they do.

About Scottish Huntington’s Association

People impacted by Huntington’s disease need specialist services to cope with a severe and complex disease, the impact on families and a lack of awareness amongst health and social care providers and the wider public.

Scottish Huntington’s Association is the only charity in the country exclusively dedicated to providing expert and personalised support for those impacted by Huntington’s disease.

Our personalised support reduces unnecessary hospital admissions, supports carers and other family members; lowers household poverty; and alleviates wellbeing risks to children and young people living in Huntington’s families.

We are commissioned by NHS Boards and Health and Social Care Partnerships throughout the country to share our expertise with front line staff and build support for improved services and higher standards of care for every family impacted by this devastating disease.

About Huntington’s disease

Huntington’s disease is caused by an inherited faulty gene that damages the brain over time. People with the disease can eventually lose the ability to walk, talk, eat, drink and care for themselves, requiring specialist support from those who understand the condition.

The disease is genetic, meaning it is passed down from one generation to the next. It therefore impacts entire families over generations rather than individuals alone. Anyone with a parent who has Huntington’s has a 50% risk of inheriting the condition from them.

Around 800 people in Scotland are living with the symptoms of Huntington’s disease right now. A further 3200 are estimated to be at risk of developing Huntington’s disease as a result of inheriting the faulty gene.
