Partners in Advocacy has an exciting opportunity for a new board member with an interest in independent advocacy.

We are seeking a Trustee who will have good interpersonal and communication skills, a commitment to working as a team, an understanding of and commitment to our charity’s work, a broader knowledge of trends across the third-sector and the application of those to strategic work.

Partners in Advocacy welcomes applications from people with a disability, those with a minority ethnic background, and the LGBTQ+ community.

My Support Day is currently seeking new Board Members. My Support Day is governed by a voluntary Board of Trustees, who guide and oversee our organisation. Our board is made up of people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, with an interest in supporting families and loved ones who are affected by someone else's substance use,

The main aim of My Support Day is to support families who are affected by someone else's substance use. My Support Day is a charity based within South Lanarkshire which supports families and loved ones who have been affected by someone else’s substance use. The support is person centred, and individuals are supported via 1:1, support group both face to face and online.

My Support Day are provision holders and distributors of Naloxone.

We are also in partnership between Liber8 to deliver the service FREE – Family Recovery Everyone Everywhere. This service is based across South Lanarkshire to access one-to-one support, group support, learning and development and events for the whole family. This service will also offer counselling, mediation and therapeutic services to Individuals using the service which can tailor their support to suit their needs.

Our Board wishes to expand its skills base and welcomes individuals with relevant financial, community and business experience. We are looking to attract individuals with skills and experience ranging from social media, human resources, community learning & development, legal, finance/fundraising, marketing and, most importantly, an interest in the wellbeing of families who are affected by someone else's substance use with a passion to make family recovery visible.

The position of trustee is a voluntary position, but travel expenses and other reasonable expenses accrued when carrying out the role will be paid.

Time Commitment

We ask board member candidates for a minimum commitment of attending 1 meeting every quarter, held online or in person, with email contact on matters arising between meetings. Alongside this, additional requests may be made for support with board activities such as recruitment of staff on an occasional basis

We are currently seeking to enhance our Board of Directors through the recruitment of suitable volunteers. A commitment to young people and youth work is essential and experience in GDPR, management of voluntary organisations or strategic development would be advantageous.

The Board of Directors meet bimonthly at our main office in Dumbryden Drive. Meetings are in the evening but the dates of meetings are agreed by Board Members. There is no remuneration for Board Members, however, all reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

This role is subject to PVG Membership.

Alternatives Community-based Recovery, based in West Dunbartonshire is seeking applications for new Directors for its Board. We seek individuals to become Board members to act as the "mind" of Alternatives WD CDS by collectively working together to:

  • Determine Alternatives mission and purpose;
  • Set a strategic vision and plan;
  • Ensure that Alternatives is financially and legally accountable;
  • Appoint and monitor Alternatives’ manager;
  • Ensure Alternatives has adequate resources;
  • Work to enhance Alternatives’ public image; and
  • Assess the board's effectiveness.

In practice, this may involve tasks such as:

  • Setting and approving budgets
  • Managing risk
  • Keeping on top of relevant laws and regulations
  • Approving major programs and projects undertaken by the group in achieving its mission
  • Attending and participating in meetings
  • Serving on board committees
  • Undertaking or overseeing fundraising activities
  • Representing stakeholders' views during meetings
  • Speaking about Alternatives at functions
  • Acting as Alternatives media spokesperson
  • Lobbying on behalf of Alternatives
  • Organising and attending board training events and other evaluation activities
  • Meeting with Clients to deal with complaints or issues
  • Working with the client group to gain a better understanding of the work carried out at Alternatives.

Also, our current Chair is moving on at the end of July, so we are especially seeking new Directors who might be willing to stand for the position of Chair in due course, having worked alongside the current incumbent for a few months.
