Transform Forth Valley is a Scottish registered charity and company limited by guarantee (SC033772), providing a wide range of services to support individuals and families experiencing inequality, trauma, addiction and health challenges across Forth Valley.

Since 2007 we have worked alongside individuals, families and communities to improve wellbeing, reduce inequality and create opportunities for sustainable change. Our person-centred approach recognises that challenges such as substance use, poor health, financial hardship, housing instability and social exclusion are often interconnected and require holistic support.

Role Profile

Transform Forth Valley is seeking new Trustees to join our Board and help shape the future of a charity that supports individuals and families affected by inequality, trauma, addiction and health challenges across Forth Valley.

As a Trustee, you will play an important role in the governance and strategic direction of the organisation, helping to ensure that Transform Forth Valley continues to deliver high-quality services, remains financially sustainable and meets its charitable objectives.

We welcome applications from individuals with a broad range of skills, knowledge and experience. Previous Board experience is not essential, and we would encourage applications from people who are committed to our values and passionate about making a positive difference within local communities.

Trustees contribute to:

• Setting and maintaining the charity's vision, mission and values.

• Supporting strategic planning and organisational development.

• Monitoring performance and managing risk.

• Ensuring strong governance, compliance and accountability.

• Supporting the financial stewardship of the organisation.

• Acting as ambassadors for Transform Forth Valley.

Board meetings are normally held every six weeks via Microsoft Teams, with occasional in-person meetings and events across Forth Valley. Full induction, training and ongoing support will be provided. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed in line with organisational policies.

JOIN THE VENNY BOARD OF TRUSTEES - HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF GLENCASSELS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

The Venny (Glencassels Community Development Project) is looking for new volunteer Board members to provide governance and strategic direction for this well-established community project.

Based in Craigneuk, The Venny works with children, young people, families and the wider community, providing activities, opportunities and support shaped around local strengths and needs.

What does being a Board Member involve?

Our Board has responsibility for ensuring that The Venny is well managed, well run and fulfils our commitments to both our funders and the local community.

As a Board Member, you will:

• Be a Trustee of a Scottish Charity – Glencassels Community Development Project (SCIO)
• Help ensure that our work reflects the strengths and needs of the local community
• Contribute to important decisions about governance and project development
• Oversee matters such as finance, recruitment, policies, risk and quality of service
• Provide supervision and support to the Project Leader
• Bring your own ideas, experience and perspectives

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for people with an interest in community development who believe that a neighbourhood centre like The Venny can truly support and enrich community life.

We would particularly like to hear from:

• People with strong links to Craigneuk and Wishawhill in North Lanarkshire who would like to become involved in supporting these communities.
• People from the wider community who can bring skills, knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Management and governance
  • Human resources
  • Community development
  • Services for children and young people
  • Finance and funding

You don't need previous Board experience. What's important is an interest in our work, a commitment to our community and a willingness to contribute your knowledge, experience and perspective.

Our commitment

The Board meets approximately every 4–6 weeks. This is a voluntary role, and new Board members will be supported to understand The Venny and their responsibilities as Charity Trustees.

The Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body (SPCB) is seeking to appoint an independent member to its Advisory Audit Board (AAB) which provides advice to the Parliament’s Clerk/Chief Executive and, where appropriate, the SPCB on financial management and reporting, audit, risk and governance matters. The independent members of the AAB also provide advice to the independent officeholders supported by the SPCB.

The successful candidate will hold or will have held senior positions the private, public, or voluntary sectors with a high degree of expertise and experience in governance and accountability. Excellent communication, influencing and relationship building skills are essential.

The time commitment is expected to be around 15 days per annum and is remunerated at £390.31 per day.

We are looking for a motivated and collaborative Chair to proactively lead and support our organisation, providing strategic direction and insight to ensure we achieve our vision.

Wellbeing Scotland has been dedicated to supporting people impacted by child abuse since 1994. We support children, young people, adults and families, with an established specialism in access to records for people who experienced abuse while in care. We are a long-standing delivery partner of the Scottish Redress Support scheme.

We recently said goodbye to some long-standing Board members and are now looking for a new Chair and more trustees to bring fresh perspectives and energy. This is an opportunity to broaden our skillset and ensure the organisation is well supported for its next chapter.

The Chair’s role will be crucial throughout our next phase: providing steady leadership, supporting the Board through change, and ensuring the ongoing resilience of the organisation.

Key responsibilities of the Chair:

• Provide effective leadership and strategic direction
• Chair Board meetings and AGM
• Act as a bridge between the Board and the senior leadership team
• Ensure the charity operates in line with governing documents, charity law and best practice
• Represent Wellbeing Scotland externally with funders, partners and supporters

This is a voluntary role requiring attendance at 6 Board meetings per year plus additional support in line with the responsibilities of the role.

Who are we looking for?

Previous experience as a Chair is desirable but not essential. Most important is your commitment to our work and to using your experience to help us achieve our vision. We actively welcome expressions of interest from people of all backgrounds, professions and life experiences.

Transition Edinburgh South (TES) works with local people and community organisations to regenerate greenspaces and community buildings in the South of Edinburgh, We do this in a number of ways -

• Growing food that is good for people and planet; blending growing with community health, learning, and volunteering programmes and events that reduce social isolation, mental ill health and poverty, improve health and community connections, increase bio-diversity and reduce carbon pollution.
• Increasing opportunities for volunteering and supporting local grassroots projects.
• Working with local residents and community organisations to develop the buildings and greenspaces where we are based and in surrounding communities.
• Working to improve the environments where we are based, by tackling the impacts of climate change, reducing carbon pollution, increasing bio-diversity, and promoting sustainable development and regenerative horticulture.

We are based at the Gracemount Community Garden where, since 2013, we use organic and ecological techniques that regenerate the soil while growing fruit and veg for the community. We are part of the Transition Movement which “is a movement of communities coming together to reimagine and rebuild our world”.

We are currently looking to appoint a Treasurer to join our small Board. The Treasurer will be responsible for managing all financial matters on behalf of our organisation and will be responsible for ensuring that the organisation has robust financial processes to meet its legal and constitutional requirements. It will also be the responsibility of the Treasurer to report the financial position at the board meetings. While we encourage and welcome applicants of all backgrounds, we are keen to hear from candidates that have experience of charity financial management or are chartered in a suitable accountancy field.

All Trustees are required to attend monthly board meetings, ideally in person in Edinburgh but occasional attendance by video call is ok. In addition, we ask Trustees to attend our organisational strategy day and our AGM. Please note that this is a voluntary role. The trustees of our organisation do not receive any remuneration.

Edinburgh Nightline is a listening, emotional support and information charity, run by students, for students. We’ve been operating as a student-run organisation since 1970, and became a registered charity in 2024. We operate a call service and an instant messenger service, open from 8pm to 8am during term-time. We aim to support students across Edinburgh, with backing from Edinburgh’s Higher Education Institutions – the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Napier University, Queen Margaret University, and Heriot-Watt University.

We are undergoing a period of rapid development. In the past year, we have begun the assessment process for Helplines Standard Certification, expanded our fundraising and publicity outreach, and increased our volunteer numbers. As the Board is currently made up of a small team of former volunteers, we are seeking to bring on specific expertise to guide the charity forward.

About the Role

Trustees have collective legal responsibility for Edinburgh Nightline’s management and administration. They are accountable to both the organisation’s stakeholders and the Scottish Charity Regulator for the good governance of Nightline.

Practically, trustees are responsible for oversight of the Committee, who manages the day-to-day operation of Nightline. The Committee is made up of volunteers, headed by two Coordinators.

Trustees must take considered and informed decisions in the best interests of the organisation. Trustees are not expected to be experts on all areas of their work but are expected to seek guidance and support where necessary and to bring their own knowledge and experience to contribute to discussions.

Meetings once every 2 months. Other ad-hoc commitments may include:

• Responding to queries via email/Slack
• Considering matters by correspondence
• Attending volunteer meetings and training days

On average, please expect to commit around 6 hours per month.
