Edinburgh Nightline is a listening, emotional support and information charity, run by students, for students. We’ve been operating as a student-run organisation since 1970, and became a registered charity in 2024. We aim to support students across Edinburgh, with backing from Edinburgh’s Higher Education Institutions – the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Napier University, Queen Margaret University, and Heriot-Watt University.

In the past year, we have begun the assessment process for Helplines Standard Certification, expanded our fundraising and publicity outreach, and increased our volunteer numbers. As the Board is currently made up of a small team of former volunteers, we are seeking to bring on specific expertise to guide the charity forward.
