About us
Changeworks is a great place to work. We hold Investors in People Platinum accreditation (something only a few organisations in Scotland have), and we were nominated for employer of the year by the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce this year. Our staff overwhelmingly would recommend us as an employer too.
The Climate Emergency has resulted in ambitious national targets to reduce carbon emissions from the built environment and reduce rates of fuel poverty. This has driven a significant increase in the number of pilot and large-scale interventions delivered by Changeworks and external organisations in this area. These include area-based domestic energy efficiency retrofit and decarbonisation projects and programmes.
We are a growing organisation, and this role is crucial to the delivery of our ambitious objectives. We want to decarbonise homes in Scotland on a massive scale, and that needs talented individuals like you to help us deliver on our objectives. You’ll receive full training plus coaching and mentoring.
We offer a wide range of staff benefits including flexible working, bike to work scheme, an excellent pension scheme and 26 days paid holiday plus 9 public holidays per year.
At Changeworks, we welcome and encourage applications from everyone.

Background and Need Case
Scotland has formally recognised a biodiversity crisis and is widely acknowledged as one of the most nature-depleted countries on Earth. Urgent, evidence-based action is required if we are to reverse ecological decline and achieve meaningful nature recovery. Badgers, as native ecosystem engineers, play an important role in soil health, habitat dynamics and wider ecological resilience. Yet they remain one of Scotland’s most misunderstood species, with long-standing myths continuing to influence public attitudes and policy debates. In the current digital environment, misinformation spreads rapidly through social media, often outpacing scientific evidence and responsible conservation messaging.
Scottish Badgers is Scotland’s only charity dedicated to the conservation, protection and welfare of badgers in Scotland. Established in 1999, we have spent more than two decades promoting evidence-led policy development and we’re proud to have influenced progressive changes in animal welfare legislation in recent years. However, as a small, volunteer-led national charity, Scottish Badgers does not currently have the dedicated communications capacity needed to respond proactively, challenge inaccuracies constructively, and ensure that accessible, science-based information reaches communities, supporters and decision-makers. Investment in a Communications Partner is therefore essential.
This role will enable the charity to translate complex ecological knowledge into clear public messaging, strengthen digital engagement, support informed civic discourse, and contribute meaningfully to Scotland’s wider nature recovery ambitions.
Role Responsibilities
Our Communications Partner will deliver the following priorities:
Where time allows within the contract, our Communications Parter will also:
Experience
Experience in charity communications and digital campaigning is essential. Experience in wildlife or environmental communications is desirable.
We are seeking two new directors to fill vacancies in our Board of Directors. We are particularly looking for applications from individuals with expertise or experience in finance, charity governance, public relations / communications and fundraising. Previous experience of working in the ecology or the wider biodiversity network, including as a service user of Local Environmental Records Centre (LERC) data, would be desirable.
The Wildlife Information Centre (TWIC) is an environmental charity with an established reputation for excellence in the provision of biodiversity data within south-east and part of central Scotland. With 3.6 FTE staff plus volunteers, TWIC currently holds 4.57 million species records as well as extensive habitats and designated sites information. Our programme of events supports new and existing recorders and stimulates interest in biological recording amongst the wider public.
As a Director and Charity Trustee you will be able to contribute to the success and future development of the organisation and help ensure TWIC meets its legal and charitable obligations.
The energy crisis, rising energy prices and climate change continue to affect households across rural Scotland. We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join the Home Energy Scotland Highlands & Islands team, providing advice and support to householders across the Western Isles.
As a Home Energy Officer, you will deliver clear, independent and impartial advice on energy efficiency, renewable technologies and affordable warmth, helping people reduce energy costs and carbon emissions while keeping their homes warm.
You will be an excellent communicator with good numeracy skills and an understanding of domestic energy use. The role requires occasional travel, including overnight stays, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
If you are passionate about low-carbon living and supporting local communities, we would love to hear from you. Full training will be provided.
To be eligible for this role, you must live within the Western Isles (Na h-Eileanan Siar) local authority area.
