About the Role:

As a Support Worker, you’ll work as part of a team in providing safe, secure, supported accommodation for the people who use our services. You’ll do this by providing practical and emotional support and encouraging them to achieve their own personal outcomes in all aspects of their daily lives.

Main Responsibilities:

This Support Worker role based at our Musselburgh North High Street service is contracted for 24 hours per week and is on a rota covering various dayshift patterns, including weekend work every second weekend. The Support Worker will:

  • work as part of a team providing safe, secure, supported accommodation for homeless people.
  • support, review, monitor and evaluate through our case management system, to achieve a positive person-centred outcome for the people we work with in line with organisational, statutory and legislative requirements.
  • maintain and update all recording systems and documentation in line with relevant policies, procedures and practice guidelines, including the occupancy agreement, within required timeframes.
  • provide, plan and facilitate key work meetings, key work sessions, meetings, reviews and other internal/external meetings in conjunction with the person’s support plan.
  • provide general advocacy and advice to the people we support, including assistance to enable them to meet the conditions of their occupancy agreements.

About You:

  • To join us, you need to have a genuine passion for helping people.
  • Ideally, possess 1 year of experience of working with vulnerable people and challenging behaviour which can be from personal, voluntary and/or professional experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to undertake care practice in accordance with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) code of practice, National Care Standards, Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care and the Associations policies and procedures.
  • Ability to relate empathetically to people and recognise their right to choice and independence.
  • Ability to work flexibly and as a lone worker.
  • Able to use Microsoft or equivalent applications competently.
  • Ideally, hold and SVQ level 2 or above and be willing to work towards an SVQ 3.

Role Responsibilities

As our Volunteer Coordinator (Scotland), you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end volunteer lifecycle while building strong partnerships across the local Naval and civilian community to enhance support available to families.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Recruiting, interviewing, inducting and supporting volunteers, ensuring they are well-matched, trained and engaged in meaningful opportunities.
  • Developing and promoting volunteering opportunities in partnership with RN FPS teams and local community organisations.
  • Supporting volunteer engagement and retention through regular communication, recognition initiatives and development opportunities.
  • Ensuring compliance with safeguarding, GDPR and volunteer management policies and procedures.
  • Acting as a key point of contact for volunteering enquiries and maintaining accurate volunteer records and databases.
  • Organising events, campaigns and outreach activities to raise awareness and attract new volunteers.
  • Building collaborative relationships with local partners to strengthen community support for Naval families.
  • Gathering feedback from families and communities to inform RNRMC’s grant-making and service development.
  • Monitoring activity, tracking outcomes and producing reports to evaluate impact and inform future planning.

Job Requirements

Our ideal candidate will have proven experience in coordinating and managing volunteers, including recruitment, training, engagement and administration within a community, charity or public sector setting. The role will suit those with a positive and flexible approach and an ability to remain calm under pressure.

It is a requirement of this role that you hold a full UK driving licence and willingness to travel within the region.

You will demonstrate a clear ability to lead the implementation of plans to achieve objectives and a commitment to ongoing professional development.

An understanding of the Promoting Excellence Framework is desirable.

You will have excellent digital and IT skills, including a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
