Murray’s Initiative (formally known as Glasgow Council on Alcohol) is an independent Scottish charity that works to reduce alcohol and drug-related harm at both individual and community levels. Established in 1965, Murray’s Initiative adopts a long-term, trauma-informed and asset-based approach to changing the culture around substance use. Its services are built on a person-centred, harm-reduction model, supporting people whether their goal is to reduce consumption or achieve abstinence.

Murray’s Initiative offers free, confidential counselling services for people concerned about their own or someone else's drinking. Murray’s Initiative delivers a range of interventions including groupwork and employability support as well as a number of holistic and inclusive services, such as a women’s service for survivors of gender-based violence, young persons peer education service, LGBTQ+ health and wellbeing support and tailored wellbeing programmes.

Murray’s Initiative is also a recognised provider of professional development, offering a comprehensive training portfolio including education aimed at increasing awareness of alcohol use and promoting healthier lifestyles, COSCA Counselling Skills and a Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Murray’s Initiative deliver services over 6 days per week and throughout Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire, helping people make meaningful, positive change in their lives.

About the Role:

The Diploma in Integrative Counselling is 2-year course, credit rated at SCQF level 10 by the University of the West of Scotland, and validation from COSCA. Murray’s Initiative is one of the founding COSCA members and adheres to the COSCA ethical framework for good practice in counselling, psychotherapy and counselling skills. The course requires lead tutors who are accredited by COSCA to Diploma level or committed to work towards accreditation. Tutors should be experienced Counsellors who are accredited with an appropriate professional body, or working towards accreditation (e.g., COSCA/BACP/UKCP).

The Lead Course Tutor will have responsibility for two Diploma Courses, leading on one weekly class and one weekend class. The Lead Course Tutor will be expected to contribute to a Murray’s Initiative CPD calendar, writing and delivering on content agreed with the Head of Diploma and Training. The Lead Course Tutor will support the development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of the Diploma in Integrative Counselling.

The Lead Tutor will report to the Head of Diploma and Training.

This post requires a Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme membership - successful applicants will be required to join the PVG Scheme.

WLET’s voluntary Board of Trustees seeks to appoint a committed and capable individual to help make a step change in their capacity to support the local community. Providing support to the Board, acting as the point of contact with funders and stakeholders and actively progressing a range of projects, this post has transformative potential.

In addition to supporting a range of volunteer led services, the Trust is currently working on two significant projects:-

1. Phase 2 of the redevelopment of The Old School, Inverasdale

2. Poolewe development project

Candidates for the post of Development Manager are likely to have a background in charity and financial management or business development, have the ability to multi-task across a range of projects and have good experience of working in and for place-based communities. A track record in income generation, marketing and fundraising would be desirable.

The post holder will be required to explore and develop the potential for new initiatives both within and beyond existing projects. They will contribute significantly to strategic discussions and work closely with the Trustees. We are looking for a team player with great ideas, a practical hands-on approach and strengths in communicating and building relationships.

This post is funded by Foundation Scotland through the Recovery and Resilience Programme and administered by DTAS (Development Trusts Association Scotland).

Contract: The post is currently fixed term for 2 years.

The post holder will be an employee of WLET with 5 weeks annual leave and pension contributions will be paid. There is potential for the post to become permanent, subject to the success of the post holder in securing recurring core funding.

Location: While aspects of the role may be deliverable remotely, we are seeking a candidate who is able to live in or near to Inverasdale and be present at The Old School when necessary. The establishment of strong community relationships will be important.

The Role of Service Delivery Manager:

This is a unique opportunity to lead and transform service delivery within a trusted and well-established charity. Reporting to the CEO and Deputy CEO, the Service Delivery Manager will have overall responsibility for the planning, coordination, and operational management of driver and vehicle resources, as well as the leadership, support, and development of staff.

You will ensure that every journey is delivered safely, reliably, and efficiently, and that operational systems are maintained to the highest standard. You will manage day-to-day operational challenges, monitor performance, and implement improvements, while also contributing to the strategic development of the organisation as a member of the Senior Management Team. This is a dynamic, hands-on role where forward-thinking, proactive problem prevention, and strong organisational skills are critical.

They are seeking a candidate with proven experience in service delivery management, ideally within passenger transport, logistics, or a related operational environment. You will bring strong team leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, develop, and hold staff accountable, while growing a culture of excellence and accountability. Excellent organisational, administrative, and problem-solving skills are essential, alongside the ability to manage complex and competing workloads. About the Role:

As a Support Worker, you’ll work as part of a team in providing safe, secure, supported accommodation for the people who use our services. You’ll do this by providing practical and emotional support and encouraging them to achieve their own personal outcomes in all aspects of their daily lives.

What you’ll do

Children and young people deserve to grow up in environments that are safe and equal, and that equip them with the skills, knowledge and attitudes to have healthy, respectful relationships. This role works to influence both the policy that sets the standards for safety and equality in young people’s environments (from schools to youth work and the home) and the practice that delivers it.

This is a wide field but is given focus by our organisational strategy, which currently focuses on the behaviour of men and boys, the need to be inclusive of marginalised voices, and feminist leadership.

The role interacts closely with the Under Pressure Support Officer, which co-ordinates our training for professionals who work with young people, and our Policy Officer, as well as the wider Zero Tolerance team.

What we need

The successful candidate will have previous experience in a similar role, in a paid or voluntary capacity, with knowledge and understanding of violence against women and gender equality. You’ll be a skilled communicator with the ability to present complex ideas to a variety of audiences including senior politicians, stakeholders and partners.

You will also have:

  • A shared understanding of our vision, values, aims and positions
  • Understanding of the Scottish political landscape
  • The ability to understand complex policy issues, articulate clear and focused responses, and make judgements based on evidence

Working in close partnership with our Service Delivery team, they will guarantee that the workforce is equipped with the essential skills and capabilities to adapt to the organisation’s changing requirements.

Interviews are expected to take place from our Central Support base in Glasgow, consisting of a Values based interview with panel which shall consist of Training Department & Human Resources.

In addition, please prepare and deliver a training session for the panel on a topic of your choice. You will have 15 minutes maximum, and we’d ask you to think about the type of organisation we are, our values and vision when deciding on a topic.

About You:

Drawing on your past experience in delivering training, you should be characterised by creativity, a flair for innovation, and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities. Your enthusiasm and determination will drive you to consistently seek opportunities for enhancing the learning programs provided to our employees. Moreover, you should possess the following qualifications and attributes:

  • A qualification in a pertinent social care subject (at least SVQ Level 3).
  • Possession of, or a willingness to work towards, a relevant training qualification.
  • Previous experience in the care or charity sector.
  • Proficiency in scoping, developing, and delivering training materials to a diverse audience.
  • Familiarity with the Scottish Social Service Council (SSSC).
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with a focus on finding practical solutions.

About the Role:

As a Support Worker, you’ll work as part of a team in providing safe, secure, supported accommodation for the people who use our services. You’ll do this by providing practical and emotional support and encouraging them to achieve their own personal outcomes in all aspects of their daily lives.

Main Responsibilities:

This Support Worker role at our Sauchiehall Street service involves working 27 hours per week across a variety of dayshifts, midshifts and backshifts, including some weekends. The earliest shift start time will be 7am, with the latest finish time being 10:15pm. The Support Worker will:

work as part of a team providing safe, secure, supported accommodation for homeless people.

support, review, monitor and evaluate through our case management system, to achieve a positive person-centred outcome for the people we work with in line with organisational, statutory and legislative requirements.

maintain and update all recording systems and documentation in line with relevant policies, procedures and practice guidelines, including the occupancy agreement, within required timeframes.

provide, plan and facilitate key work meetings, key work sessions, meetings, reviews and other internal/external meetings in conjunction with the person’s support plan.

provide general advocacy and advice to the people we support, including assistance to enable them to meet the conditions of their occupancy agreements.

About You:

  • To join us, you need to have a genuine passion for helping people.
  • Ideally, possess 1 year of experience of working with vulnerable people and challenging behaviour which can be from personal, voluntary and/or professional experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to undertake care practice in accordance with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) code of practice, National Care Standards, Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care and the Associations policies and procedures.
  • Ability to relate empathetically to people and recognise their right to choice and independence.
  • Ability to work flexibly and as a lone worker.
  • Able to use Microsoft or equivalent applications competently.
  • Ideally, hold and SVQ level 2 or above and be willing to work towards an SVQ 3.
