The Society provides direct financial support to single women aged over 50 who are in need and has been doing so since 1847.
We have a vacancy for a Caseworker to cover the Lothians, Borders, Fife, Falkirk, Clackmannanshire and some parts of Perthshire and Angus. Ideally the post holder will be located centrally in this area, but the right person is more important than the right location.
Caseworkers assess both new applicants and existing beneficiaries against the Society’s eligibility criteria, as well as providing some advice and support including signposting to other services. An understanding of the challenges that older women living on low incomes face is crucial, and good knowledge of welfare benefits / money guidance is very helpful, although this is not primarily an advice role. Most importantly, we are looking for someone with significant experience and a non-judgemental, empathic approach who can help the Society to understand people’s circumstances and to find the best ways for the Society to prioritise and offer support.
The Society offers excellent conditions, flexible working and the opportunity to develop a uniquely positive working relationship with the women we support. While the post is home based, it will involve significant travel throughout the post holder’s region (including occasional overnight stays) and to attend meetings in Edinburgh / Glasgow a couple of times a year. PVG membership is essential as are a driver’s licence and access to a car. Mileage is paid at 55ppm.
The Society is a registered Scottish Charity SC016095 and is striving to be an equal opportunity employer.
Home-Start Clackmannanshire is a long standing, dynamic charity, striving to ensure every young child (under 12) has the best possible start in life locally. Raising a family has never been easy; our trained volunteers and staff are there to support families through challenging times.
We provide a bespoke support package of 1:1 and group services for families, helping them to cope with the stresses and strains of daily life and encourage them to build the skills, confidence, and strength they need to nurture their children for years to come. As part of our service, we run a charity shop in Alloa, which generates income for our support work, offers volunteering opportunities, and is a local Bairn Bank.
Through a Home-Start UK partnership and funding through The Pears Foundation, alongside an exciting local initiative with Fairer Futures Partnership, we are excited to be able to offer this one year post, building on what was a new role to our team last year, allowing us to further provide dedicated resource to developing our internal volunteering programme, and supporting the development and implementation of a volunteering programme to support our family hubs across the local authority. Learning from this post will continue to inform Home-Start UK work towards supporting the transformation of volunteering across the network too. This is a fixed term contract, with potential of extension dependent upon sourcing continued funding.
