Who we are

Alzheimer Scotland is Scotland’s national dementia charity. Our aim is to make sure nobody faces dementia alone. We provide support and information to people with dementia, their carers and families, we campaign for the rights of people with dementia and fund vital dementia research.

What you’ll do

The Community Connections Co-ordinator will be responsible for setting up, delivering and evaluating a range of person-centred activities, support groups and community-based services for people living with dementia and their carers across Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire and South Ayrshire

Working predominantly as part of a team of two, the postholder will deliver a varied and engaging programme that may include drop-in sessions, therapeutic activities, Dementia Café style provision, carer support, brain health initiatives and other community-based opportunities, delivered through local venues and hubs.

You will work closely with colleagues and local partners to design activities that respond to the needs and interests of people affected by dementia, promoting wellbeing, independence, social connection and meaningful engagement.

A key part of the role will be creating warm, welcoming and inclusive environments where people feel supported, valued and able to participate, while helping to build local awareness and strengthen community connections.

What you’ll have

You will bring a positive, proactive and compassionate approach to supporting people living with dementia and their carers, with a genuine passion for improving wellbeing and helping people stay connected within their communities. You will understand the importance of person-centred support and be committed to promoting dignity, choice, inclusion and independence in everything you do.

You will be creative, organised and adaptable, with the ability to design and facilitate engaging activities and group experiences that respond to the needs and interests of individuals affected by dementia. You will be confident in building trusting relationships, creating welcoming environments and supporting people through both positive and challenging situations.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a wider team. You will be comfortable engaging with a range of people, including individuals living with dementia, carers, volunteers, community partners and professionals, and will have good IT and administrative skills.

Experience of working with people living with dementia, carers, older people, or within health, social care, community or voluntary sector settings would be advantageous. Experience of planning, organising or facilitating group activities, community engagement initiatives or support sessions would also be beneficial.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about continuous learning and professional development and who is keen to develop their knowledge of dementia, brain health and community-based support.

A full, valid driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential, as the role involves travelling across multiple local authority areas (mileage and expenses are paid).

A relevant qualification and previous experience supporting people affected by dementia would be desirable.

Women’s Support Worker - Aditi - BAME Women’s Well-Being Service

We are looking for a Women’s Support Worker from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds to deliver direct practical support interventions for Sacro’s Aditi Women’s Wellbeing Service in partnership with Multi Cultural Family Base (MCFB). You must have experience of cross-cultural work, be an effective communicator in English as well as in another language prevalent in Scotland’s Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, highly organised and have effective casework management skills.

You will be responsible for delivering direct support and mentoring interventions to BAME women affected by domestic abuse and Honour-Based Violence (HBV) and for maintaining accurate case notes. You will operate within the Scottish Government’s Equally Safe Strategy as well as Sacro’s policies and procedures and will escalate any safety/well-being concerns around adult and child protection to the Service Co-ordinator/Service Manager. You will be responsible for monitoring women’s well-being throughout their journey within the service and for making appropriate follow-on referrals to relevant services. You will also be required to organise, deliver and participate in group community activities.

Membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme is a requirement this post.

We particularly welcome applicants from BAME communities for this post, and applicants must be female. Funded by the City of Edinburgh Council.

About Aberlour Youthpoint Moray

Our Youthpoint Moray service provides help to children and young people in Moray who may be struggling with their emotions and behaviour, prompting concerns about their well-being. Our young people’s workers provide one-to-one and group work support for our children and young people, in a safe and relaxed setting. They help them to understand the issues that are affecting them, that can sometimes be the cause of their behaviour. They help them take steps to overcoming their difficulties at home, school and in the community. The team also work with other family members, parents and carers to improve relationships at home.

Aberlour Youthpoint Moray provides three services to young people in Moray; Intensive Community Support (ICS), Early Help and Mentoring and YP Zone.

The Intensive Community Support service funded by The Moray Council works closely with social work teams with young people and families to support young people and families to achieve their full potential and develop important life skills through non-formal educational activities. ICS also supports young people and families to enable positive change and improve outcomes. This is delivered via 1 to 1’s, group work, and family support.

Early Help and Mentoring service provides support to disadvantaged, excluded and vulnerable young people and their families to enable them to gain and retain control of their own lives and remain safely in their own homes and communities. Early Help and Mentoring support young people to improve their health and wellbeing, make positive and informed choices and develop their self-awareness and confidence. Early Help is delivered by Young People’s Worker’s through 1 to 1, group work and family support. Mentoring and befriending are delivered by volunteers on a 1 to 1 basis.

YP Zone provides targeted 1:1 support for young people who are affected by their own substance use through a harm reduction approach. The service offers relationship-based, strengths-focused emotional support tailored to individual needs, helping young people to better understand and reduce substance use, improve their wellbeing, and develop healthier coping strategies.

What we are looking for....

You will work 30 hours per week, across our Intensive Community Support service and your main role will be to provide one to one and group work support to young people and their parents as identified through appropriate referrals. You will plan and deliver activities and groups in partnership with young people and their parents in relation to their needs. You will work within a variety of locations in the Moray area. You will need to be able to drive and have access to a vehicle to be able to take young people out and about. The role will also involve liaising with partner agencies and entering data into Aberlour’s case recording information system.

The team will provide support both within and out with normal office hours, dependent on the needs of young people and families. This may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends. All staff are expected to take a full and active role in the delivery of the service.
