We are pleased to offer an opportunity to join our Edinburgh Carers service as a Service Coordinator.

This is a rewarding role in a supportive, experienced team, where you will make a genuine difference by providing line management to the team and one-to-one independent advocacy to unpaid adult carers. The role involves travelling throughout Edinburgh to meet people in a range of community and other settings. Travel expenses are covered, and you will be supported to plan your work in a way that is both effective and sustainable.

Working closely with the Service Manager for Edinburgh & The Lothians, you will help maintain accurate service data and support the development of service reports, helping demonstrate the impact of advocacy.

This is a role that offers a high degree of autonomy, alongside regular support, supervision, and opportunities to connect with colleagues across the organisation.

What the role is really like

  • Your work will be team-focussed, in terms of practice and outcomes, though you’ll need to feel comfortable working independently at times, managing your own diary and priorities.
  • You will provide one-to-one support and supervision to your team colleagues.
  • Your work will support unpaid adult carers in Edinburgh who, in turn, are supporting a family member who may have mental health needs or other additional support requirements.
  • Your days will vary from supporting someone in a meeting, to travelling across Edinburgh, to completing case notes at home.
  • Some situations can be complex or emotionally demanding, and good professional boundaries are essential.
  • You’ll need to be able to understand complex information and processes, translate them in the context of your advocacy partners’ needs, helping them to understand their rights and explore their options.
  • You’ll need to be comfortable making decisions and working proactively, while staying connected to your wider team.
  • You’ll be speaking to professionals and others in a range of settings, communicating, and amplifying your advocacy partners’ opinions and wishes.
  • You’ll record, track, and compile statistical and other information, writing it into tracking spreadsheets, Microsoft Word forms and creating anonymised case studies.

Finance and Business Manager

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and organised Finance and Business Manager to join our small team. The Finance and Business Manager will work closely with our Director of Finance and Business to ensure that finance and business systems operate efficiently and effectively.

The role is remote but there is a requirement to travel within Europe for a week each August to attend our conference. We also expect team members to travel to Dundee two or three times a year for our team meetings and a social event. Travel expenses will be paid for by AMEE.

This role line manages a full-time finance assistant.

You will be expected to:

  • Lead on month-end process and produce monthly reports, management accounts, cashflow and financial analysis
  • Manage monthly Payroll (externally administered)
  • Prepare for review and submit quarterly VAT returns for HMRC, OSS and any European countries in which we are registered for conference purposes
  • Prepare for review, annual accounts for audit and leading the audit process, including liaising with auditors to produce annual statutory accounts
  • Meet regularly with budget holders, ensuring accurate and timely information is made available to them
  • Provide finance training, as required, to staff and Trustees
  • Liaise with external IT providers as and when required
  • Perform any other duties as required by the Director of Finance and Business

This list is not exhaustive, and a comprehensive job description is appended.

Our ideal candidate will possess a recognised relevant accounting qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, ACA, CIPA. They will have previous experience, a sound knowledge and understanding of accounting packages, specifically Xero. AMEE also uses ApprovalMax and Expend and experience in these would be an advantage.

Previous experience and/or an excellent understanding of a successful finance function within a not-for-profit organisation; from basic processing to producing annual accounts and high-level reports is required and an understanding of Charity Financial Regulations is required. Candidates must also have a strong working knowledge of VAT.

All roles in AMEE require effective communication skills, both orally and in writing and as this role carries line management responsibility, a proven ability in the management of staff and support and supervision is required.

You are required to have the appropriate skills, experience and qualifications that are relevant to the duties outlined in the job description, including being proficient in the use of Sage One Payroll and Microsoft Excel.

You should have an understanding of the feminist analysis of domestic abuse and be willing to work within the group’s collective, non-hierarchical structure.

The role is based in Kirkintilloch with potential for home/flexible working as part of your working week. Attendance will be required at our weekly team meetings to fulfil collective management responsibilities.

As there may be times where you will informally meet women, children or young people using our services, this post is subject to a successful PVG scheme check. We will also require suitable references and completion of a satisfactory 6-month induction period.

These are a mix of our own community engagement (free or small charge) and private hire. Our cafe is a relaxed, airy space that has become a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike, and our popular campsite has already won TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards. Our community fridge (which is much more than just a fridge) ensures surplus food and household products do not go to waste.

In the past five-and-a-bit years, we’ve been establishing who we are and what we do as a charitable trust. It takes a lot of effort and money to serve the community well and so far, our grant funding applications have been successful. We need to maximise funding opportunities, but we can’t rely on these alone. We also generate income through room hire and the cafe and campsite, and this is something we need to build on. My Support Day are provision holders and distributors of Naloxone.

We are also in partnership between Liber8 to deliver the service FREE – Family Recovery Everyone Everywhere. This service is based across South Lanarkshire to access one-to-one support, group support, learning and development and events for the whole family. This service will also offer counselling, mediation and therapeutic services to Individuals using the service which can tailor their support to suit their needs.

Our Board wishes to expand its skills base and welcomes individuals with relevant financial, community, business or lived experience. We are looking to attract individuals with skills and experience ranging from social media, human resources, community learning & development, legal, finance/fundraising, marketing and, most importantly, an interest in the wellbeing of families who are affected by someone else's substance use with a passion to make family recovery visible.

The position of trustee is a voluntary position, but travel expenses and other reasonable expenses accrued when carrying out the role will be paid.

Time Commitment

We ask board member candidates for a minimum commitment of attending 1 meeting every quarter, held online or in person, with email contact on matters arising between meetings. You will have a sound understanding of the recovery process, interpersonal skills and are an expert listener with a nurturing attitude. Applicants will use their lived experience and skills to work alongside the patient in the ward to enhance recovery throughout their hospital stay and plan for discharge into the community.
