The ALLIANCE is excited to be recruiting for Senior Development Officer – Lived Experience

This role requires the post holder to lead the development and delivery of our Lived Experience Engagement and Involvement Strategy. The post holder will play a key part in growing and supporting an inclusive membership network of disabled people, people living with long-term conditions and unpaid carers, ensuring that individuals are empowered to influence health and social care policy and practice in an impactful way.

Working collaboratively with colleagues, members and partners across the statutory, third, education and independent sectors, you will champion co-production, participation and person-centred approaches, helping to embed lived experience at the heart of decision-making.

The successful candidate must have :

  • Educated to degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent through experience
  • Experience of working with diverse communities, particularly disabled people, people with long term conditions and/or unpaid carers
  • Experience of developing and delivering engagement and involvement strategies
  • Experience of co-production and partnership working
  • Ability to identify opportunities for participation, collaboration and improvement
  • Strong understanding person centred approaches and inclusive and engagement practices
  • Excellent communication skills including report writing, facilitation and delivering presentations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Strong organisational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadline
  • IT skills including use of word processing, email, presentations, databases and online engagement platforms
  • Knowledge and understanding of data protection and information governance.

The role

Our Trustees work collectively to:

  • Set the Beacon’s strategic direction

This is a unique opportunity to influence practice at a national level while leading quality improvement, children's rights and accountability across one of Scotland's most important child protection services.

About the role

Working alongside the Assistant Director and two other Service Managers, you will help lead the National Safeguarders Panel on behalf of the Scottish Government.

You'll take the lead on complaints and concerns relating to Safeguarders, ensuring these are managed fairly, consistently and in line with legislation and best practice. You'll champion children's rights throughout our work, drive continuous quality improvement and help shape learning and development for Safeguarders across Scotland.

You'll also build strong partnerships with Scottish Government, Children's Hearings Scotland, the Scottish Children's Reporter Administration and other key stakeholders to ensure children remain at the heart of everything we do.

This is a strategic leadership role where you'll combine operational management, quality assurance, relationship building and service development to make a lasting difference for children and young people.

What you'll bring

We're looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Significant leadership experience within children's services or a related environment.
  • Experience of managing investigations, complaints or quality assurance processes.
  • Strong knowledge of Scotland's Children's Hearings System and children's rights.
  • The ability to build effective relationships across complex partnerships.
  • Experience leading teams, managing resources and delivering service improvement.
  • Excellent judgement, communication and decision-making skills.
  • A collaborative leadership style that reflects our values.
  • A Social Work qualification or another relevant professional qualification at SCQF Level 9 (or equivalent) is essential.

Organisational Structure

  • The Board of Trustees includes the Branch Director, Secretary, Treasurer, and up to eight elected trustees, all unpaid volunteers.

The Treasurer Role

We are seeking to appoint a new voluntary Treasurer when the current post holder steps down in September 2026.

The Treasurer is a Trustee and a member of the Branch Leadership Team, accountable to the Branch Director. The branch Accountant reports into the Treasurer.

You will make sure people are informed about their options and their rights and assist people who have mental health issues to redress power imbalances in their lives and in their interactions with services. Individual Advocacy is very rewarding work that makes a real difference. Full training will be provided.

This post will be subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. There will be a 3 month probationary period attached to this post. A mix of home and office working is possible but face to face working with people is essential.
