Our Service is a busy respite care unit for children and young people with additional support needs, including complex learning and physical disabilities. As well as providing short residential breaks the service offers outreach to families and is also involved in the managing and running of an after school club as well as a busy Easter and Summer play scheme.
Based in a quiet, residential street in Prestwick, our disability support service offers a safe, homely environment for a child to come and stay for a short break that gives their families a rest from their caring role. During that break, children enjoy a range of fun activities and experiences with our staff who specialise in taking care of children with disabilities. Our service is very much a ‘home from home’ for the children who stay with us there.
What we are looking for...
As a Young People’s Worker you will play a fundamental role in ensuring that the young people you work with have the best possible experience in working towards their objectives, in line with their care plan, supporting children to progress within their individual outcomes. Whilst not without its challenges and demands, this is a highly rewarding role, where the work we do has a demonstrable impact on each young person's progress. Using a person-centred approach, you will provide enabling support ensuring the highest level of physical, personal and emotional care. We support young people who have Epilepsy, need personal care and need gastrostomy feeding. Aberlour, in conjunction with NHS, provide all staff with training.

We are looking for a Young People’s Worker to work Wakened Night Shifts on a part time basis (averaging 30 hours per week). These hours will be worked as part of a two week rolling rota whereby you will work three shifts one week and two shifts the following. Shifts are 11 or 12 hours each.
Ideally, candidates will have social care experience, an understanding of autism, complex needs and disability. You will hold, or be willing to work towards, a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above (for example: SVQ 3 in Care plus an HNC) together with relevant experience of working with children or young people. You must also be able to demonstrate awareness of the key elements of working with people affected by disability as well as an understanding of, and commitment to, young people’s rights.

What you’ll do
You will be responsible for supporting people living with dementia to achieve good outcomes using a range of therapeutic interventions, resources and activities as appropriate. Working as part of the Registered and Commissioned Services/Community Connections team you will have responsibility for ensuring that services are of the highest quality and meet Alzheimer Scotland’s vision for unique therapeutic, highly person-centred support.
You will work with the wider team and Day Services Manager to ensure safe practice and delivery of high-quality, person-centred, therapeutic Registered and Commissioned Services/Community Connections, ensuring practice complies with Alzheimer Scotland’s policies. You will contribute to evidencing, reviewing and continually improving the quality of the services and will participate in internal audit and Care Inspectorate inspections.
You may operate within a building-based Day Care or as part of a Community Connection team delivering Community Groups and Outreach services across an allocated area. At times, this will involve working without supervision in the absence of the Day Services Manager.
You will work with the wider team to evidence that services meet Alzheimer Scotland’s Quality Guarantees, Scotland’s Health and Social Care standards and other quality frameworks including those of the Care Inspectorate where relevant. This includes ensuring that the activities and support offered meet the identified personal outcomes of those attending the services.
What you’ll have
The successful candidate will have a good understanding and/or experience of working with or supporting people living with dementia and their families. This will include an understanding of the benefit of high quality, evidence based therapeutic activity, ongoing evaluation, quality assurance and continuous improvement.
Knowledge and understanding of the Health and Social Care Standards and SSSC codes of practice and the Care Inspectorate and their role in registered services.

The Community Connections Co-ordinator will be responsible for setting up, delivering and evaluating a range of person-centred activities, support groups and community based services for people living with dementia and their carers across Glasgow, East Dumbarton and West Dunbarton local authority areas.
Working predominantly as part of a team of two, the postholder will deliver a varied and engaging programme that may include drop-in sessions, therapeutic activities, Dementia Café style provision, carer support, brain health initiatives and other community based opportunities, delivered through local venues and hubs.
You will work closely with colleagues and local partners to design activities that respond to the needs and interests of people affected by dementia, promoting wellbeing, independence, social connection and meaningful engagement.

Experience of working with people living with dementia, carers, older people, or within health, social care, community or voluntary sector settings would be advantageous. Experience of planning, organising or facilitating group activities, community engagement initiatives or support sessions would also be beneficial.
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about continuous learning and professional development and who is keen to develop their knowledge of dementia, brain health and community-based support.
A full, valid driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential, as the role involves travelling across multiple local authority areas (mileage and expenses are paid).
