Mentor

We’re looking for creative, passionate, experienced Mentors to join our small, dedicated team. Reporting to the Head of Mentoring, the successful candidates will be tasked with mentoring up to 10 students (depending on availability): they will facilitate student-led learning by developing activities based around individual student interests and by guiding the young people as they take charge of their own learning, through self-directed projects.

Successful candidates will also be expected to do some related administrative tasks, take part in evaluation exercises, and contribute to community and team meetings and events

As this post involves work with young people, you will be required to obtain PVG scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland if successful at interview. We will process this for you. Employment will be confirmed after successful completion of this and any other necessary checks including references.

Reporting to the Head of Operations and Mentoring at Light Up Learning, the role would be responsible for two main areas in the service:

  1. Rotation around our partner schools, getting to know the mentors, mentees and school contacts – covering mentor absences where necessary.
  2. Communication with our partner schools. We are seeking two members of staff to do weekly rotational visits to a cluster of our schools to get to know mentors, their mentees and key contacts within the school.

This is to allow continuous communication between LUL and partner schools, covering sessions with mentees when mentors are absent, attending meetings within the school where appropriate, following up any delays from the schools such as referrals etc.

As this post involves work with young people, you will be required to obtain PVG scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland if successful at interview. We will process this for you. Employment will be confirmed after successful completion of this and any other necessary checks including references.

Candidates must have the ability to adapt to new environments and build relationships with young people quickly as this position involves covering sessions.

It will also involve frequent travel around our partner schools.
