The Candidate

The candidate must be a mentor eager to support their fellow people. You must be able to discover people’s strengths and support needs and identify what works best for them and their employer. Having communication skills partnered with critical thinking are prerequisites for this job. With proven experience in job coaching and working with people with learning disabilities and/ or autism, the successful candidate will be confident in their ability to create and implement a three-year development plan to help grow the job coaching service, VIAS and our capabilities. With an understanding or experience of work-related issues affecting people with learning disabilities and/ or autism, the successful candidate will be a multi-tasker working in an autonomous capacity throughout Scotland. The successful candidate will also have the ability to work with a range of stakeholders, demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills and an aptitude for building and nurturing successful partnerships. They will have a high-level ability to plan, analyse and think through issues that arise and an ability to identify, prioritise and deliver a varied work programme.

The Scottish Assembly has an exciting opportunity for four motivated, committed individuals to join our Assembly team.

Leading by example, you will be enthusiastic and pragmatic, give fair, honest views, build supporting, trusting relationships with people with lived experiences, provider organisations, and Health & Social Care Partnerships. Your role will be to help to recruit and enroll more people with learning disabilities and/or autism in your region. The aim is to give people with lived experiences a place to put forward what they see are priorities in their lives and in the communities in which they live to influence policy making both locally and nationally.

The Assembly’s overall aim is to establish the world’s first Learning Disability Parliament which upholds the voices of all people with learning disabilities and/ or autism in Scotland. It currently meets online every Friday and will meet once/twice a month in regional areas when we have regional leads and facilitators in place. The regions are split into Northeast, Northwest, Southwest and Southeast. We are currently recruiting a regional lead (who has lived experience) and a regional facilitator in each of these regions who will help to progress the vision of The Assembly.

Regional Lead - The Scottish Assembly

The Assembly is a growing group of people with a learning disability or autism who want to have more say in decisions that affect them locally and nationally in Scotland.

People come to The Assembly as individuals and not on behalf of the other organisations that they are part of.

Our goal is to become the world’s first Learning Disability Parliament where people with a learning disability or autism can influence and vote on things that affect them.

The National Assembly meets every Friday and Regional Assemblies meet every month on Zoom.

We want these groups to get bigger so that as many people as possible can be involved in decision making.

We are Hiring! Two Regional Leads + Two Regional Facilitators

The Scottish Government has given us funding to recruit four more people to join our Assembly Team.

We are now recruiting Regional Leads and Regional Facilitators for the Northwest and Southwest of Scotland.

You will contribute to the success of an award-winning employment-focussed employability programme with the aim of supporting young people aged 16-24 with learning disabilities and/or autistic spectrum conditions into work.

This will include providing job coaching support to interns and their supervisors in work placements and/or in employment settings, co-ordinating family network interactions e.g. Employment Planning Meetings & social events and monitoring, supporting and reporting on interns’ progress and development throughout the programme.

Background

DFN Project SEARCH is an international transition to work programme committed to transforming the lives of young people. It provides real-life work experience, combined with training in employability and independent-living skills, to young people with learning disabilities and/or autistic spectrum conditions who want to go on to find employment.
