Your key responsibilities will include supporting local fund decision-making bodies with fund strategy and spend, implementing day to day grant-making processes, and engaging with a broad range of community stakeholders to maximise, monitor and communicate the impact funds are making.

Please note, that while this role is home based, regular travel across the portfolio area is required; you will require access to a car and an ability to attend 2-3 evening meetings a month.

As a result of more donors wanting to channel their funding through us, we are creating two new Grants Officer posts. The posts will support our two grant-making teams – the Philanthropy Team and the Communities Team. Each team manages a high volume of grants to eligible community groups and charities across Scotland.

As a Grants Officer, you will get to the heart of this work – providing grant making and administrative support (like reviewing conditions and reports and responding to applicant queries), routinely assessing grant applications and helping to administer funds and programmes.

The role involves considerable liaison with colleagues internally as well as with applicants and grantees, so you will be a confident and effective communicator and have good planning and organisational skills.

The role:

Foundation Scotland's Philanthropy Team supports its donors to bring their philanthropic interests to life. The team work closely with its donors to understand what matters to them and helps them to shape this passion into giving strategies and grants programmes. The team manages many high-volume national grant programmes and a large number of smaller, more focused funds. The team works with a broad range of donors, from individual and family philanthropists looking to impact the cause that means most to them, to corporate organisations looking to give back to the communities that support them. The team help to design and deliver a mix of Foundation Scotland advised funds and donor advised funding. Building strong relationships and enabling donors to make the most impact with their giving is at the heart of what they do.

The role itself will involve providing philanthropy advice to donors, planning approaches, designing grants programmes, programme delivery, devising & implementing decision-making processes, proactively growing engagement, Impact report writing and coordinating external assessor support. Communicating and getting the message out about the work of the Foundation will be an important component of this role, this will entail attending forums and events, representing the Foundation and sharing best practices with peer funders and other charities.

The person:

The successful candidate will have substantial experience in donor management, grant-making, and relationship management in the social sector or similar related environments. They will be practised in donor development, stewardship and communications in the corporate sector or the wider charity sector. This person will have excellent communication skills and nuanced and diplomatic relationship-building skills. Experience of supporting donors, particularly high net worth individuals on philanthropy related issues in addition to developing and tailoring Grants programme plans and monitoring/evaluation procedures. This person will be comfortable assessing financial accounts and will understand the importance of due diligence across the board. Experience in participating in events and forums would be useful as being highly competent in MS Office products and having used SALESFORCE or a similar CRM database.

This person will be a highly organised self-starter, the organisation is completely remote working with regular travel to meet grantees and donors across Scotland so the importance of careful planning and sound time management will be essential. A genuine interest and passion for the good work of Foundation Scotland will be essential to success in this role, connecting with Donors and grantees on a personal basis will be driven by this. Leadership and the ability to mobilise networks and take people with you in achieving goals and high levels of customer service is central to this role. The Philanthropy Team

Foundation Scotland’s Philanthropy Team supports our donors to bring their philanthropic interests to life. The team work closely with our donors to understand what matters to them and helps them to shape this passion into giving strategies and grants programmes.

The team manages many high-volume national grant programmes and a large number of smaller, more focused funds. The team works with a broad range of donors, from corporate organisations looking to give back to the communities that support them to individual and family philanthropists looking to impact the cause that means most to them. We help to design and deliver a mix of Foundation Scotland advised funds and donor-advised funding.

Building strong relationships and enabling our donors to make the most significant impact with their giving is at the heart of what we do.

Reporting to the Head of Philanthropy & Quality, the purpose of the role is:

• To manage and support a portfolio of donors from a range of sources such as high net worth individuals, families, corporate donors, charitable Trusts, and Foundations and programmes in partnership with UK Community Foundations (UKCF)
• Provide effective philanthropy advice and develop new and increased business through the cultivation and stewardship of on-going relationships. This is achieved by supporting donors to develop their giving strategies, providing grantmaking programmes and effective ways for them to manage their giving in Scotland.
• Connect with other grantmakers and networks such as the funders’ forums frontline to raise our profile, demonstrate impact and build on learning.

The Social Investment Team currently distributes funds from the JESSICA (Scotland) Trust, offering blended grant and loans to social enterprises in central Scotland. We provide support to applicants and our existing clients to enable them to run sustainably and have maximum social impact in their local area. Going forward we are looking to create opportunities to manage other repayable finance products and mainstream this approach within the foundation.
