About you

We are seeking a CCA who is fluent in BSL to support our clients in the deaf community to be better able to take part in decisions and make informed choices about the care and support they receive.

You will either have successfully completed Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 Level 2 training or be prepared to obtain this certificate during your probation period and maintain the capability to fulfil the requirements from this training.

The role

The CCA is accountable to the Statutory Operations Manager.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Providing support to Local Authority Social Workers in completing assessments of need, working in conjunction with individuals, carers & families.
  • Managing & coordinating care, including creating, monitoring & regularly reviewing plans, and advising on services and support, to promote quality of life and independence, as advised by Local Authority Social Workers.
  • Providing a duty/drop-in service.
  • Maintaining a caseload as advised/appropriate.
  • Ongoing provision, where appropriate, of direct support and the development of peer support & groups, ensuring people feel more able to do the things they want to do.
  • Making referrals and signposting to other services, support, agencies & organisations when these are required. This may include referring and signposting to other Deaf Action services, groups and activities.
  • Co-operating with and contributing to any adult protection activities such as inquiries and investigations. Deaf Action staff will ensure that where they believe or suspect a person is at risk of harm, concerns are urgently escalated to Social Care Direct.
  • Ensuring up to date recording on electronic social work recording systems, such as case notes, reviews and assessments (If applicable) and other significant information.
  • Actively promoting the service and reaching out to “hard to reach” individuals and groups to ensure width and reach is maximised.
  • Ensuring satisfaction questionnaires are issued on a regular basis, collated and reported to indicate quality of service and Key Performance Indicators as advised.
  • Working alongside mainstream & local authority colleagues to promote and represent the needs of Deaf people when needed, both on a case-by-case basis and generally. This may include supporting statutory interventions by local authority.
  • Ensuring carers of clients feel supported to maintain their caring relationship and sustain their caring role.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Representing and promoting the team and organisation at events and meetings.
  • Ensuring a robust “bridge” between Deaf Action and the local authorities.
  • Supporting Local Authority Social Workers as required.
  • Building up professional contacts and networks, ensuring that knowledge and information sharing is up to date.
  • Contributing towards Deaf Action’s mission, values and objectives, and being prepared to challenge inequality and discrimination appropriately.
  • Undertaking additional responsibilities as requested by the Statutory Operations Manager and senior management.
