Youth Engagement Manager (Aberdeenshire)

In April 2021, the Volunteering Matters family grew to include ProjectScotland, who work to support young people to get on in life, through the power of volunteering. We support young people, including those facing multiple barriers or disadvantage, to achieve positive outcomes for their future. We provide young people with personalised emotional and practical support, meaningful and supported volunteering opportunities through charity partners, and access to a reliable and positive Volunteer Mentor.

Role Purpose

We are looking for a talented, dynamic, and professional Youth Engagement Manager to join our team in Aberdeenshire. The right candidate would be someone who can work flexibly and demonstrate an understanding and total commitment to our organisational values.

As our Youth Engagement Manager, you will directly support young people aged 16 to 24 who may have complex and challenging barriers to securing a positive pathway. This will include barrier identification and removal, supporting pre volunteering activity as well as volunteering placements in their local area.

Young people will also have the opportunity to be supported by a dedicated ProjectScotland volunteer Mentor, and post placement, your role will be to support a positive bridge to further employability programmes or opportunities.

You will identify, develop, and manage partnerships with charitable and not-for-profit organisations across Aberdeen and the surrounding areas, building an effective presence within the third sector locally. You will create diverse, high-quality, structured volunteering opportunities with partner organisations, ensuring that volunteering roles reflect the needs and interests of young people. You will also support the creation of strong referral pathways into our service, and beyond it, building on a knowledge of existing provision.

Role Purpose

As the HR Manager at Volunteering Matters, you will be at the heart of the organisation, empowering its leaders and future leaders, embedding robust systems and processes to ensure high levels of organisational compliance is maintained and supporting the whole organisation to achieve our strategic goals including being ‘the best place to work and volunteer.’ Although this role focuses on employed staff at Volunteering Matters, we are looking for a HR Manager who understands and is energized by the impact and power of volunteering and social action.

Furthermore, the HR Manager will ensure a value focused, efficient, quality orientated process with an inclusive lens to all aspects of the work of Volunteering Matters HR function.

The HR case work advice and guidance at Volunteering Matters is outsourced to a specialist provider.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Embed inclusive practice across all aspects of Volunteering Matters HR Policies and Procedures, testing out new and innovative approaches to recruiting people into paid roles across Volunteering Matters and its sub brands.

• Oversee and monitor the HR system, ensuring information is up to date and support with collating employee reports.

• Implementation and ongoing review of HR policies, practices and frameworks, to support the charity in its needs.

• Ensure a consistent, values focused, quality orientated process to recruitment with an inclusive lens, which attracts a broader & more diverse range of high-quality candidates.

• Upskill and collaborate the staff team at Volunteering Matters, by delivering training and ongoing coaching for recruiting managers on the key aspects of our recruitment framework.

• Monitor staff turnover and ensure that exit interviews are carried out, analysing and reporting on findings.

• Ensure the HR and Payroll team are meeting their objectives and delivering a good service to the organisation.

• Attend leadership meetings where strategic and high-level operational input is required.

• Ensure terms and conditions and policies and procedures are up-to-date and comprehensive with regards to legislation and best practice.

• Develop the staff training and development framework, which includes inclusive formal and informal learning and development opportunities.

• Lead the HR team, line manage the HR Advisor and the HR administrator.

• Liaise regularly with the outsourced HR Provider, linking the HR case work trends with the wider HR strategic development priorities at Volunteering Matters.

As part of our ProjectScotland offer, we have a national mentoring team, who recruit, train and support our diverse community of volunteer mentors across the country. Every young person we support through our projects has the opportunity to be matched to a mentor based on their personal needs, goals, interests and location. Each mentoring relationship and journey is very unique and the support a mentor can offer is dependent upon the goals their mentee has and what they want to achieve.

Mentoring is a vital component of the support we offer at ProjectScotland and we have an exciting opportunity to join our team in Aberdeenshire, strengthening our mentoring offer. In line with the priority family groups identified for the PES funding, the beneficiaries of this project will be: Lone Parents, Parents with disabilities, Young parents age 25 years and less, Minority ethnic families, Families with a disabled child, Families with 3 or more children, Families where the youngest child is under 1 year

This project will be community based, supporting parents in spaces and places they are comfortable in within their communities. This will include partner premises, where parents will already attend/have a connection with.

To ensure a good local knowledge and coverage by team members across the whole of Aberdeenshire, we will have 4 part-time mentor workers, each dedicated to a specific area within the local authority:

  • Kincardine & Mearns
  • Buchan & Banff & Buchan

Role Purpose

Our PES Mentor Managers will recruit, train, match and support local volunteer mentors. They will work closely with key workers from existing providers - Aberdeenshire Council, Enable Works, and The Foyer to build strong referral pathways and partnership working. Our Mentor Managers will also engage with parents directly, to gain an understanding of their wants and needs from a mentor, to ensure they are able to make the best match possible.

PES supports under-employed and unemployed parents in Dundee, with the aim of supporting them to find/or progress in work, and increase their income, through support and guidance. The PES Dundee support program sits within the All in Dundee consortium and we work hand in hand with organsations such as; Enable, Dundee City Council, Barnardo’s, OPFS, Helm and Street League.

Our role is to provide mentoring support to parents who fall into the below categories:

  • Lone parents
  • Families with a disabled parent or child
  • Families with three or more children
  • Minority Ethnic Families
  • Families where the youngest child is under 1 year of age
  • Families where the parents are under 25.

Mentoring is a formal relationship between an experienced and supportive individual (mentor) and a person who is looking to develop personally or professionally (mentee). Mentoring involves building a trusting and respectful relationship together and working towards positive outcomes or specific goals the mentee would like to achieve.

Role Purpose

An introduction to the role

As our Volunteer Coordinator, you will lead the delivery and development of our highly successful “Grandmentors” programme in Perth and Kinross.

Grandmentors is an innovative, inter-generational mentoring project where older volunteers (normally but not exclusively aged 50+) use their wealth of life experience and skills to mentor young people aged 16-26 who are care experienced, or facing other life challenges

These young people often benefit from a guiding hand and role model to support them to find work, continue their education, begin training, enhance their wellbeing, or develop their independent living skills - ultimately giving young people the empowerment and self-belief to lead successful lives.

Grandmentors is a national project which has operated for almost 15 years in various locations of the UK. We launched in Perth and Kinross in 2022. Further information on Grandmentors can be found online.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Consistently role model and display our organisational values (Being Positive, Inclusive, Empowering, Compassionate, Straightforward)
  • Contribute to effective teamwork across the staff team and the wider charity, in line with our “flexible working by default” and “self-managed teams” philosophy
  • Develop and deliver the Grandmentors programme in Perth and Kinross, meeting ambitious goals and milestones, ensuring all young people engaged achieve positive outcomes

Programme Overview

ProjectScotland have secured a small amount of funding to complete a short-term project in West Lothian, involving various external partners and local young people (aged 16-30).

Feedback from Employability Services in West Lothian is that young people are increasingly presenting themselves with poor mental health, and these services are not necessarily designed or equipped to effectively respond to that need. Waiting lists for mental health support are long, and young people often need to engage with multiple agencies to receive appropriate support that works for them.

In this role, you will:

  • Attract local young people to take part in this short-term research and social action programme.
  • Engage with those young people – by listening, consulting, understanding their experience of accessing local employability services, the extent to which these services have supported their mental health needs, identify new ideas, solutions and recommendations for change.
  • Create a final report, presentation, or toolkit which presents the findings, with recommendations for the future.
  • Work alongside our partners, SAMH, who will be delivering a range of mental health training for West Lothian organisations. Support SAMH by understanding what training organisations would find helpful and supporting the coordination of these sessions.
  • Engage with a range of partners, networks and forums across West Lothian including the Local Employability Partnership, Third Sector Employability Forum, West Lothian Gateway and others.

Accountability

The post holder will be accountable to the Getting Together Matters Project Development Manager.

Purpose of the role

Volunteering Matters requires an exceptional Engagement Manager to work closely with the LifeLines team as well as other colleagues across the organisation to support the scaling up of the Getting Together Matters programme to ensure that we continue to improve the lives of isolated and vulnerable older people across the UK through online and telephone-based activities.

  • Provide administrative support and monitoring around the delivery of regular online activities, led by Volunteering Matters staff and volunteers.

Role Purpose

Connect+Go is a 12-month pilot project funded by Department for Transport. It aims to connect communities in Nuneaton and the surrounding county of Warwickshire by offering free transport to people who may be experiencing isolation and loneliness. Connect+Go will work in particular with young care experienced people and refugees within Warwickshire.

Volunteer drivers will be recruited and trained to drive an electric minibus or tuk-tuk which will offer transport links to community groups, events and social activities. Volunteers may also offer companionship support to people, developing confidence and social inclusion. There will additionally be two Full-Time Volunteers and a part-time Project Co-Ordinator supporting the project.

Role Purpose

Volunteering Matters are looking for a talented, dynamic, and professional Volunteer Coordinator to join our team in Perth & Kinross. The right candidate will be someone who can work flexibly and demonstrate a strong understanding and commitment to our organisational values.

You will lead the development and delivery of our new Grandmentors programme in Perth & Kinross. Grandmentors is an innovative volunteering project where older volunteers (aged 50+) use their life experience and skills to mentor young people who are care experienced, or who have other adverse childhood experiences.

These young people often benefit from a guiding hand and role model to support them to find work, continue their education or begin training – ultimately providing young people the skills and self-belief to lead successful and independent lives. Grandmentors has operated for over a decade in various locations of the UK, however, Perth & Kinross is only the second area in Scotland to adopt the project and we are excited to be working in partnership with the local authority to ensure this small pilot thrives across the area.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Consistently role modelling and displaying our organisational values

This role

GTG use evidence-based insights to deliver immersive, interactive, and fast paced workshops online and in person that create lasting individual and group change. Role Purpose:

The Marketing Manager will be part of the wider Enterprise Directorate team and report to the Director of Enterprise. They will play a critical role in supporting our planned growth for both EV & GTG and future products and services as we add to our portfolio. Role Purpose

Volunteering Matters are looking for a talented, dynamic, and professional Engagement Manager to join our team in Edinburgh and the Lothians. The right candidate would be someone who can work flexibly and demonstrate a strong understanding and commitment to our organisational values.

You will lead the development and delivery of our new Grandmentors programme in East Lothian. Grandmentors is an innovative volunteering project where older volunteers (aged 50+) use their life experience and skills to mentor young people who are care experienced, or who have other adverse childhood experiences.

These young people often benefit from a guiding hand and role model to support them to find work, continue their education or begin training – ultimately giving young people the skills and self-belief to lead successful and independent lives. Grandmentors has operated for over a decade in various locations of the UK, however East Lothian is the first location in Scotland.

You will also support the delivery of our established Family Supporters programme across the City of Edinburgh. Family Supporters is an effective mentoring programme, proven to reduce the number of children at risk of going into care. By preventing and de-escalating issues, our volunteers help struggling families to turn things around.

Family Supporters recruit, train and match dedicated, local volunteers to help families every step of the way, spending 1-1 time together on a personalised set of goals chosen by the family, for the family.

The programme supports families in many ways, such as improved living standards, budgeting, healthier eating, better school life and behaviour, access to health and wellbeing resources/aid, as well as introducing parents to community resources, to name a few.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Consistently role modelling and displaying our organisational values
  • Contribute to effective teamwork across the regional team and the wider charity, in line with our “flexible working by default” and “self-managed teams” philosophy
  • Develop and deliver the Grandmentors programme in East Lothian, meeting ambitious targets and milestones, ensuring all young people engaged achieve positive outcomes
  • To contribute towards the successful delivery of our Family Supporters programme in the City of Edinburgh
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including colleagues, volunteers, young people, families, Social Services, Health and Education teams, third sector partners and others
  • Effective recruitment, selection, training, and ongoing support of a diverse pool of talented and dedicated volunteers from a wide cross-section of the community
  • To maintain Volunteering Matters standards around quality and effective Volunteer Management
  • To manage all elements of young people’s/families experience of our programmes, from point of referral to completion of their mentoring journey
  • To manage the risk assessment, safeguarding, quality assurance and audit processes as appropriate
  • Ensure monitoring, impact and evaluation information and data is collected and that each programme meets it’s agreed targets, reporting format and schedule. Assist the Delivery Leader by preparing reports to funders

Role Purpose

2022 marks our 60th anniversary and we’re celebrating with a year of fundraising events, celebrations and engagement with our volunteers, staff and partners.

As the Fundraising Campaigns Officer, you will co-ordinate, develop and deliver fundraising activities relating to our 60th Anniversary Fundraising Campaign . You will work closely with the Partnerships, Delivery and Communications Teams to enable colleagues and volunteers can champion the campaign and deliver income so we can increase our impact in communities across Great Britain.

Our places and volunteers are crucial to what we do. They know their communities best, and our role is to enable them to overcome the challenges their communities face. You will platform the voices of our volunteers, showcasing the impact volunteering has made in communities across England, Wales and Scotland, and demonstrate how we continue to deliver that for the next 60 years via the campaign.

This role will support our volunteers and communities to achieve funding from Trusts, Foundations and Major Donors across England, Scotland and Wales to transform their places. This role will manage our strategic relationships with gatekeeper trusts and major donors to maximise our impact and reach and play a key leadership role in the UK Business Development Team, building a systemic and proactive approach to relationships and business development for the organisation.

Key Duties

• Develop and grow our Gatekeeper Trust and Foundation relationships for Volunteering Matters and family of brands.

They had also developed a new, supportive peer-support network and gained a broader network of contacts to help in their job search.

As our Employer Engagement Manager, you will work closely with all partners involved in the Making Work Work programme, helping to ensure the programme continues to be a success. Volunteering Matters is a national volunteering and social change charity. We use the unique power of volunteering to resolve some of the UK’s most pressing social issues. In collaboration with local authorities, we have created a programme to support improvement in services for care experienced young people.

The system of public, private and third sector providers across a range of local services tend to be designed for people who are able to engage with little or no support. People of all ages have barriers to engaging in services and care experienced young people can have more barriers than most. For care experienced young people, whilst they have talent and potential, they face some of the starkest outcomes of any group in society given their additional barriers, and a legacy of discrimination, oppression, and a lack of access to resources and opportunities.

What is the problem we are trying to solve? Despite the challenges, there is a considerable growing consensus and momentum around the idea that care experienced young people cannot rely on services and infrastructure that have been designed without their input or have not been specifically designed with their needs in mind.

By making use of the Scottish Approach to Service Design and supporting No One Left Behind Principles, we therefore want to give care experienced young people a voice and an opportunity to influence change by involving them in the design of services and opportunities, providing them a platform to have their voices heard.

Role Purpose

As our Engagement Manager working in one of the above-mentioned local authorities, you will work closely with care experienced young people to empower them to have a voice and to support them to identify and review referral pathways within the local authority. You will provide an independent and improvement-orientated framework to self-assess services relating to care experienced people.

The ambition is then to co-design necessary services to fill gaps, providing a supported pathway for care experienced young people on their journey to sustainable fair work. Finally, we hope to support in re-orientating existing structures, services, commissioning frameworks and pathways to enable improvement whilst offering peer support and learning opportunities for all areas under review.

The role involves working closely in collaboration with local services and within local governance and with the Improvement Service to make positive change. This programme is currently operating in three local authorities in Scotland – Clackmannanshire, Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway, so there will be opportunities for shared learning and peer support.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with local authority to identify the appropriate and relevant departments and services requiring auditing and review
  • You will attract, recruit and support care experienced young people to undertake an audit of pathways and services. Undertaking surveys, observations, questionnaires, and focus groups
  • You will work closely with these individuals to identify the current processes and procedures within the relevant services and complete a mapping exercise to what the “exiting care” journey looks like for all care experienced young people
  • Together with the young people, you will identify the existing interventions and their effectiveness against the improvement plan
  • Create networks and conversations which enable local authorities to learn from care experienced individuals and families and develop collaborative learning opportunities
  • You will develop evidence-based findings and recommendations and present back to decision makers to take the first steps of changing the lives of care experienced young people
  • Recognise the confidential and sensitive nature of personal information relating to children, young people, and families and how this should be communicated, used, published, shared, recorded, and handled appropriately

Role Purpose

We are looking for a talented, dynamic, and professional Youth Engagement Manager to join our team in Edinburgh and the Lothians. The right candidate would be someone who can work flexibly and demonstrate an understanding and total commitment to our organisational values.

You will directly support young people who have complex and challenging barriers that prevent them from achieving a positive pathway towards the next stage of their lives. Your support will include barrier identification and removal, one to one employability support such as help with CV writing, job search and interview preparation, ensuring young people are volunteer ready and identifying a suitable volunteering placement with them.

You will work alongside colleagues in our Mentoring team, ensuring young people can benefit from a ProjectScotland Volunteer Mentor. You will manage and develop our partnerships in Edinburgh, West and East Lothian including with education, social work, and employability teams, to secure referral pathways into our service. Role Purpose

As our Participation Manager you will lead to deliver organisational change in line with Scotland’s commitment to creating capacity in the ‘care system’ to Keep the Promise and provide holistic family support.

The role involves working across Volunteering Matters and ProjectScotland’s portfolio of programmes across Scotland. Working closely with a wide range of colleagues across our Delivery, Impact, HR and Comms teams, you will ensure that our projects and day-to-day practices align with the work and vision of the Promise and encorporate a rights based approach as now legislated in Scotland through the UNCRC.
