Flexible Support Worker - Dumfries

Would you like to make a difference to the lives of People Living with Dementia in Dumfries?

We are looking for unique people to join the team at our dementia specific day service in Dumfries and also support in our community activity groups. Our day services and groups are personalised to the preferences and needs of individuals, providing therapeutic activities with a focus on maintaining skills and independence. The day services in Dumfries are open Monday to Friday.

Our Support Workers are our most important people as they provide front line support. Successful applicants will have a positive approach to dementia. You will also have good communication skills and a caring attitude. Supporting individuals to keep connected to their communities, engage in their interests and hobbies and access peer support. Contributing to activity development and leading the way towards exciting and new activities to promote brain health.

The use of a car is preferred (mileage and expenses are paid).

A willingness to learn and participate in training (including SVQ’s) and registration with the SSSC is essential. Relevant qualifications and/or experience of working with people with dementia would be an advantage.

Are you a fun, caring and creative person who wants to help improve the quality of lives for people living with dementia in a therapeutic setting? Our support workers in our registered day services provide vital personalised support to individuals with a focus on maintaining skills and independence.

The post is a temporary maternity cover 28-hour contract split between Dingwall and Tain. The day services in North Highland are open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm to meet the needs of the service.

Our support workers deliver therapeutic activities with compassion and energy giving those attending the opportunity to engage with their peers and within their local community. Successful applicants will have a positive and empathetic approach to dementia.

You will require to have a full driving licence to enable you to drive between services and a car or access to a car which you may have to make use of from time to time for trips and outings would be preferable.

You will also have good communication skills and a caring attitude. A willingness to learn and attend training is essential. Relevant qualifications and/or experience of working with people with dementia would be an advantage.

We have an exciting opportunity to join Alzheimer Scotland as a finance assistant.

Alzheimer Scotland is Scotland’s national dementia charity. Our aim is to make sure nobody faces dementia alone. We provide support and information to people with dementia, their carers, and families, we campaign for the rights of people with dementia, support vital dementia research and promote positive brain health.

We are seeking applications from individuals with strong finance/administrative experience within a complex organisation and who possess the skills to take on the tasks outlined in the job description.

The role is a varied finance transactional role and will undertake regular bank and sales processing including appropriate reconciliation to both Financial and Fundraising Systems. The role will also have involvement in supporting the wider finance function including areas such as purchase ledger, direct debit processing and general administration.

Prior experience in a high-volume transactional finance role is highly desirable.

You will be a strong communicator and able to balance competing priorities. You will have experience of working with a wide range of office systems including Microsoft 365 and databases or financial systems.

Are you a creative and motivated individual with the passion and drive to support people with a recent diagnosis of dementia to live well in their community?

If so, you can be part of a National Team of Post Diagnostic Support Link Workers (PDS Link Workers) providing high-quality, person-centred support to people living with dementia and their families for a minimum of a year following diagnosis in line the Scottish Government’s minimum guarantee.

The aim of the PDS National Service is to enable people to live well with dementia and is centred around Alzheimer Scotland's 5 pillar model so that people move on to a period of supported self- management.

The model includes understanding the illness and coming to terms with the diagnosis, peer support, connecting and maintaining links with their community along with planning for future care and decision making to develop an outcome focused plan to support their future hopes, desires and aspirations.

Supporting our Argyll & Bute locality, the post will be based within the Cowal Community Dementia Team. Alzheimer Scotland’s PDS Link Workers are required to be effective team workers and have the skills to build and maintain relationships with colleagues both within Alzheimer Scotland, the NHS and other stakeholders.

Skills in using digital platforms are essential as we use a blended approach to support people that involve some virtual meetings and on-line groups.

Applicants must hold a recognised relevant professional qualification, have a good understanding of dementia and how it affects people and their families along with excellent communication skills, a warm flexible approach, combined with skills in empathy and relationship building.

In addition, you should have skills and knowledge at the Enhanced Level of the Promoting Excellence Framework or be able to evidence you are working towards its completion.

This post requires a full driving licence and access to a car.
