Do you have an interest in improving the lives of people living with dementia, their families and carers in Inverness and Nairn, with a key role in shaping the valuable existing Alzheimer Scotland service locally? Then this rare and exciting opportunity for a permanent, part time Dementia Advisor role may be for you or someone you know.

Dementia Advisors provide advice, information, practical support, and develop social and therapeutic activities that meet the outcomes of local people affected by dementia.

You will support people living with dementia, their families, and carers to find their way through the health and social care system and have more meaningful conversations with decision makers in the local community, by encouraging people with dementia, and carers to be heard.

You will work with a range of external partners and colleagues to promote and develop a broader understanding of and positive attitudes to dementia.

To be successful in the role you will be required to adopt and demonstrate a positive leadership approach for the small but effective team that will influence a positive culture of engagement in the local communities. This will also include tasks related to maintaining the resource centre in Lerwick.

This is a very flexible role aimed at meeting the needs of people with dementia and their carers throughout Inverness and Nairn. The focus and location of the post holder’s activity will vary from time to time depending on the needs of the people we support, although he/she/they will have a fixed office base.

You will have a positive approach to dementia, have good communication and IT skills and poses a caring attitude. A willingness to learn and participate in training is essential. Relevant qualifications and/or experience of working with people with dementia would be an advantage.

We are looking for unique people to join our team of Community Activity Organisers, within our community groups and dementia specific day service in Dumfries. Our groups and day services are personalised to the preferences and needs of individuals, providing therapeutic activities with a focus on maintaining skills and independence.

Our Community Activity Organisers are so important in providing front line support. Successful applicants will have a positive approach to dementia and a passion to make a difference. You will have good communication skills, a caring attitude and most of all enthusiasm for the role. Supporting individuals to keep connected to their local communities, engage in their interests and hobbies and access peer support. Developing ideas and leading the way towards exciting and new activities to promote brain health.

The use of a car is preferred (mileage and expenses are paid).

A willingness to learn and participate in training (including SVQ’s) and registration with the SSSC is essential. Relevant qualifications and/or experience of working with people with dementia would be an advantage.

We are looking for a Community Activity Organiser in West Lothian based in our office Unit 1 Grampian Court, Beveridge Square, Livingston, EH54 6QF.

The post holder will work in partnership with colleagues, people with Memory concerns, dementia and their families to:

  • Plan, develop and facilitate a wide range of therapeutic and social activities
  • Promote activities through social media and other platforms
  • Support delivery of 9 outreach Community Cafes in West Lothian
  • Review and evaluate activities providing regular reports of outcomes
  • Produce a monthly programme detailing the services available, as outlined by the Centre Manager, and promote this widely across the networks.
  • Be a local point of contact and carry out the associated administrative tasks/business banking.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills

The post holder will deliver a combination of online groups as well as in person. Proficiency and confidence in using and supporting use of digital platforms are essential for this role along with proficiency in standard office software and IT systems, will enable you to coordinate activities seamlessly

Successful candidates will have a positive approach to dementia supported by excellent communication and networking skills and an empathic, positive attitude. Having a creative flair and being a self-starter would also be an advantage as well as having experience of working with people with dementia. A willingness to develop through ongoing learning is essential.

Flexible Support Worker

We are looking for a unique person to join our team at our dementia specific day service in Ardrossan. Our day services are personalised to the preferences and needs of people living with dementia, providing therapeutic dementia specific support with a focus on maintaining skills and independence.

The post is flexible and based in Ardrossan, with hours worked based on service need which may be scheduled due to annual leave, or more last minute in response to other unplanned absences and agreed with the successful candidate. We are open Monday to Friday 9am to 4.30pm to meet the needs of the service.

Our support workers are our most important people as they provide front line support therefore successful applicants must have a positive approach to dementia.

You will also have good communication skills and a caring attitude. A willingness to learn and attend training is essential. Relevant qualifications and/or experience of working with people with dementia would be an advantage.
