Oral Historian/Project Manager Tender

The Astley Ainslie Community Trust is a charity working to achieve community ownership of the Astley Ainslie hospital in Edinburgh, when the NHS vacate the site. We have 750 local members, and a wider community of people interested in the future of the site.

The hospital celebrated its Centenary in 2023. To commemorate this milestone, the AACT are conducting an Oral History project which will collect spoken memories from people with connections to the hospital over the years. Heritage Lottery have awarded funding for this project.

The project will involve recording and collecting 40 oral history accounts from staff, patients, friends and family. The oral histories will be archived with Edinburgh Universities Lothian Health Services Archive. There will also be a small exhibition showcasing a selection of the oral histories in a public space.

We are looking for someone to project manage and lead the execution of this project.

Key service requirements:

Project management

Volunteer management, recruitment and training

Recruitment of subjects for interview

Reviewing, editing of interviews for archives and public facing outputs

Project administration, including regular evaluation and progress reports

Final project report

Leading development of public exhibition

We are looking for a person who will be:

Highly organised with an eye for detail

Friendly and able to communicate effectively with different project stakeholders

Familiar with the requirements of working on a self-employed basis (eg covering own tax and insurance etc).

Comfortable engaging with volunteers and members of the public.

We would expect provision of these services to occupy 80-90 days from January 2025 until the project end date of 25th November 2025, for which we are offering £200 per day based on time invoiced.

Remote and in-person working at multiple locations will be required.

The post will be managed by the Astley Ainslie Community Trust Project Management Committee and Project Director.
