EATS Educates Gardener - EATS Educates: Children and Families Growing and Eating

Do you have experience as a gardener or horticulturalist and have a passion for growing fruit and vegetables and inspiring others? This is an exciting opportunity to join a new project that aims to actively improve the health of children and their families, and their understanding and interest in the environment and biodiversity. The project will span four Primary Schools in Rosyth. Where children will learn and participate in their schools sowing, planting, growing, harvesting, tasting, and cooking fruit and vegetables. They will take this learning home – growing and cooking and eating fruit and vegetables at home.

You will join an Education Officer and a Project Support Officer and be supported by the General Manager of EATS Rosyth. The gardener will lead on the planning, creating and maintaining of the growing spaced in the 4 Rosyth Primary Schools . Example of some of the main duties will include:

  • Work with the Education Officer and schools to design and create the growing spaces.
  • Prepare the growing aspects of the project, with the Education Officer, and plan to meet the agreed timescales of the education programme.
  • Maintain the growing spaces within each school and manage the soil fertility, crop rotation, sowing, irrigation, pest and disease control etc.
  • Prepare for the education programme lessons so that the Education Officer has the necessary equipment and materials ready to use with the children.
  • Work with the Project Administrator Officer to support how the project is communicated, for example taking photographs for promotion on social media.
  • Involve families and carers in the project and work with them through out.

Project Support / Administrative Officer - EATS Educates: Children and Families

The Project Support/Administrative Officer will lead on supporting the project planning and organisation and providing a full range of administrative services associated with the day to day running of the project and in completing the education programme which will be shared with other schools.

Example of some of the main duties will include:

  • Provide the administrative support to the teachers working group who will be creating the lessons plans for the project.
  • Support the team to work within the budget for the project.
  • Procure and purchase equipment and materials for the project.
  • Support the creation of resources for the project.
  • Provide the administrative support to the project plan, including ensuring it meets its agreed timescales.
  • Create a communications strategy with the project team and operationalise the strategy, which will include using social media to communicate with all stakeholders.
  • Organise and support the work of engaging and involving families and carers into the project and continue this work throughout the project.
  • Manage any events that are required for the project, during the planning and active phase and for the dissemination of the project.
  • Organise the timetable for the education programme within the agreed primary classes across the 4 Rosyth schools.
  • Prepare all the resources needed by the Education Officer to deliver each individual lesson.

  • Prepare and plan all aspects of the project to meet agreed timescales, including completing the lesson plans in collaboration with schoolteachers.
  • Work with the Project Support/ Administrative Officer to create a communications strategy for the project and support them in using social media to communicate with all stakeholders.
  • Engage and involve families and carers into the project and work with them throughout.
  • Work with the Project Gardener and schools to create the design and plan the maintenance of the growing spaces within each school.
  • Utilise the Taste Education resources and lesson plans and evaluations with children across the 4 primary schools in Rosyth.
  • Deliver the education programme within agreed primary classes across the 4 Rosyth schools.
  • Work with the Project Support/ Administrative Officer on the collection of and analysis of the data.
  • Utilise evaluation methods to ensure the education programme is meeting its aims.
  • In collaboration with the team and steering group, write a final project report, including an evaluation of its outcomes, the final education programme and its resources.

Rosyth Community Projects Limited is a registered charity based in Rosyth which delivers the Edible & Tasty Spaces: EATS Rosyth project. We operate a community hub in Rosyth as well as a community garden and orchard. We provide opportunities in the Rosyth community for Growing, Cooking and Sharing to increase the sense of community in the town through volunteering to reduce food waste, encourage growing and a healthier lifestyle through the provision of a hub facility serving community meals twice a week. Main Purpose of Post

In this role you will manage all aspects of administration and bookkeeping associated with the day to day running of the project. Providing a full range of administrative services, taking the lead on data entry and the management of our systems. You will be responsible for all financial processing as required by EATS Rosyth and deal with all enquires that EATS Rosyth receives from a variety of communication channels, e.g., Social Media, email, phone calls

Main Duties

  • To Provide a full range of administrative services as directed by the General Manager
  • Manage emails and support with phone calls and social media queries
  • Raising & processing invoices & banking payments
  • Reconciling of all financial transactions (through use of Dext and Xero software as well as Virgin Online Business Banking)
  • Consolidating payroll data to submit to external payroll provider.
  • Organise and support meetings, attend and take minutes as required.
  • Take bookings and appointments for the use of EATS Rosyth facilities.
  • To help ensure that we hold sufficient stationery and other stocks.
  • Manage Event and Room Bookings
  • To support specific activities as required by the project, e.g. event management; including set-up of rooms.

Greenspaces Coordinator – EATS Rosyth

You will join another Greenspaces Coordinator to work together to run programming in our greenspaces, garden and orchard, as well as facilitate the maintenance and care of the garden and orchard. This will include the running of existing groups/classes/activities, running community events, running targeted and casual volunteering sessions, and working alongside regular volunteers to maintain and grow food within our Greenspaces.

You will have a strong working knowledge of vegetable gardening, fruit trees and berries. And you will be confident working closely with volunteers and have a passion to support them. You will also be confident working with and leading groups in both educational and social activities and be able to work sensitively with a diverse range of service users.

You will join a friendly and motivated staff team and be supported by the General Manager, your training and development will be prioritised and supported. In addition you will work with and be supported by the EATs Rosyth Board of Trustee’s and many volunteers who have a wealth of knowledge and experience.

General Manager

The purpose of this role is to take a strategic lead in the development and sustainability of EATS Rosyth’s community facing services, activities, volunteering and external partnerships, working closely with our board of trustees.

You will lead our small competent staff team and expanding number of 50+ volunteers to deliver a wide range of grant-funded projects and the development of income generating activities as we move into trading from our new community cafe.

You will drive our vision, embracing all that we do in the present, instilling a sense of purpose and direction for the future. You will make the organisation’s objectives clear, inspiring staff to deliver them in a way that embodies the core values of the project. Working in collaboration with senior staff, you will be responsible for the overall organisational and programme development and for preparing reports for the Board.

Community Food Co-ordinator

Our Community Food Co-ordinator will play a key role in running our food operations from our project’s new Community Hub in Rosyth, with a focus on delivering against our aim to improve people’s access to nutritious food. You will be working in our kitchen to prepare, cook and serve food in our Hub’s café, for paying customers during core hours and for groups and events outside these hours. You will have significant freedom and responsibility to help create the café menu, and be responsible for monitoring stock and ordering food. You will make sure that EATS serves good quality, nutritious food, making sure this is done safely and hygienically.

You will need to ensure the kitchen runs smoothly with the help of our Community Cook and team of volunteers, supervising these colleagues when necessary and delegating tasks. You will be aware of food safety regulations and help to make sure our processes are safe, guiding others where necessary. You will have to be personable, approachable and empathetic – making the Hub a welcoming place for all people at all times. Our kitchen will double as a training kitchen, and you will help to deliver educational activities, which are of great importance to the project’s mission. The role will include supporting disadvantaged individuals facing barriers in their lives, and supporting the project in providing meaningful volunteering opportunities.
