Govan Community Project provides a range of holistic services for people seeking asylum, refugees and vulnerable migrants in the Greater Govan area of Glasgow.

GCP’s Homework Club was set up to support children and families from the asylum and refugee community to understand and engage with the Scottish education curriculum. We are recruiting a Homework Club Facilitator to support the Secondary-age group (11-18yrs).

You will be responsible for running and facilitating two weekly after-school sessions for young people aged 11-18; creating and maintaining a safe, supportive and positive environment for attendees to engage with school work and academic development. You will co-plan and facilitate a range of enrichment activities, including for the school holiday programmes. You will take an active role in the planned development of the project, to ensure the sessions and activities best meet the needs and interests of attendees.

Our ideal candidate will have experience of working and/or volunteering with secondary school aged children in an education and/or youth-work setting. You will be confident in sourcing learning materials to support secondary school aged children’s academic learning. You will have a good understanding of child protection procedures and the barriers faced by individuals in the asylum process in relation to education and attainment. You will have knowledge/experience of trauma informed approaches to working with vulnerable children and families. You will have a high level of interpersonal skills, enabling you to support a diverse group of young people. You will have the skills to be able to manage a varied workload, working independently and as part of a team.

About EmilyTest

EmilyTest is a small but impactful Scottish charity dedicated to tackling gender-based violence (GBV) in education. We work with schools, colleges, and universities, helping them develop effective policies, procedures, and practices in GBV prevention, intervention, and support. Our mission is to ensure every young person can live, work, and study free from the harms of GBV.

The Role

We are seeking a full time GBV Training Officer to support the development and delivery of our training programmes.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual with proven experience in delivering, designing and developing engaging training. The postholder will support the Training and Project Development Manager in all training activities, contribute to widening the reach of EmilyTest’s training, and bring creativity and innovation to the design of high-quality, impactful learning resources. They will also support the coordination and delivery of insight and learning sessions linked to the Network and Charter.

Job Purpose

The Employability Worker will deliver volunteering and employability support to parents, carers and individuals experiencing barriers to employment, education and training.

Embedded within Govan HELP’s wider family support model, the role will ensure employability support is integrated alongside counselling, wellbeing, financial advice and practical family support services. The postholder will work flexibly and compassionately with individuals who may be far from the labour market, supporting them to build confidence, develop skills and progress at a realistic pace towards positive destinations.

This role is central to Govan HELP’s place-based approach to tackling child poverty and strengthening outcomes for families across the Govan community.

Key Responsibilities

Employability Support

• Deliver tailored one-to-one employability support to parents, carers and community members
• Support individuals to identify strengths, aspirations and achievable goals
• Develop personalised action plans with participants
• Support CV building, applications, interview preparation and job searching
• Assist individuals to access training, volunteering and employability opportunities
• Work closely with volunteers and create more opportunities

Volunteering Development & Coordination

• Support the development and coordination of volunteering opportunities across Govan HELP services
• Recruit, support and maintain positive relationships with volunteers
• Identify meaningful volunteering pathways that build confidence, skills and progression opportunities
• Work with volunteers to support service delivery across groups, community activities and the Pantry
• Promote volunteering as a stepping stone towards employability, training and social connection
• Support volunteers to identify strengths, gain experience and progress towards positive destinations

Barrier Identification & Support

As the Project Officer, you will support schools across East Lothian to increase active travel, such as walking, wheeling and cycling. Your work will help pupils, staff and local communities travel in healthier and more sustainable ways.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Deliver behaviour change and engagement projects that encourage active travel.
• Plan, organise and run educational sessions, practical activities and events that help people make positive changes in how they travel.
• Build effective working relationships with schools, community groups and local authorities to support these projects.
• You will recruit, guide and support volunteers who help with the work of the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust, making sure they feel informed and confident.
• This role involves physical tasks such as lifting and moving bicycles, transporting boxes and equipment, and setting up activities within school environments. We welcome applications from all candidates and will consider reasonable adjustments to support individuals in carrying out these duties.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys delivering fun activities with children and adults, who thrives outdoors, with a flexible approach to working independently and in teams.

ABOUT YOU

• At least 3 years of experience working with community groups. This can be paid work or voluntary work.
• An understanding of Active Travel (walking, wheeling, cycling) and the challenges faced by communities who experience inequality or barriers.
• Experience leading group workshops and presenting information clearly, both online and in person.
• Knowledge of safeguarding principles and the ability to apply safe working practices that promote the safety and wellbeing of children, young people, and adults at risk.
• You will be required to travel between schools and transport equipment as part of this role. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is therefore needed.
