Veterans Chaplaincy Scotland (VCS) was formed as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) in February 2023 (SC052358) but had operated for a number of years under the Workplace Chaplaincy Charity (which is now discontinued).

VCS exists to promote, develop and manage the pastoral and spiritual support to military veterans and their families across Scotland, and to train, support and develop both lay and ordained people to engage in chaplaincy through Veterans Chaplaincy Scotland.

VCS is developing its reach across Scotland and employs a small number of staff and retains volunteer Chaplains to deliver its core services across Scotland. It is at a crucial stage of its development and the Board of Trustees are seeking to appoint a National Director for the Charity who will provide high-level leadership to help shape and strengthen the future of chaplaincy provision. The individual will drive vision, influence, and long-term planning, ensuring the charity is well-positioned to support its chaplains and those they serve. This is a non-operational role for provision of chaplaincy, but the postholder will complement the day-to-day leadership provided by the Head of Chaplaincy Operations.

The initial appointment will be Part Time for around 14 hours per week but rising to Full Time of 36 hours per week depending on funding being generated. The closing date for applications is Friday 15th August 2025, and it is planned that interviews will take place in September. The appointment is subject to a four-month probationary period and to suitable references and pre-employment checks. We envisage the role starting as soon as possible once a suitable candidate is recruited.

We are seeking volunteers to join our Board of Trustees. Specifically, we are looking for volunteers to fulfil the role of Chair of the Board and also Treasurer. It’s an exciting time to join our Board as we continue to develop our strategy and target growth in all aspects of our work.

Chair

Working closely with the Director and fellow Trustees, the Chair will utilise their skills and experience to lead the Board on matters of governance, ensuring that all activities align with HDS’s charitable aims, publicly stated objectives values and constitution, and that there is appropriate risk management in place (financial and other).

The ideal candidate will have a substantive employment background in one or more of the following areas:

• Psychotherapy and/or counselling
• Financial management and accounting
• Business management
• Governance
• Management within the public or charity sector

Treasurer

The ideal candidate will have substantive employment background in financial management and accounting to fulfil the role of Treasurer of the Board. The postholder will work closely with our Director and provide financial oversight to the management and administration of HDS activities.

In addition to the above, we are looking for someone who has substantive experience in one or more of:

• Business management
• Governance
• Management within the public or charity sector

Role of all Trustees

Our volunteer Trustees contribute significantly to our overall charitable objectives and we value their knowledge and experience. Trustees dedicate time to attend Board meetings (usually six meetings per year). While an in-depth understanding of the theories informing the psychotherapeutic training or work of the organisation is not required, our Trustees should have a grounded belief in the value of high-quality psychotherapy and counselling in effecting change in people's lives.

About HDS

Human Development Scotland (HDS) is a charity that provides high-quality psychodynamic training and therapeutic services, aiming to make psychodynamic counselling and therapy, and the theories that inform them, more accessible across Scotland. Our office is based in Glasgow city centre which includes a Training Suite for our part-time students to receive their teaching, and counselling rooms where some of our therapeutic services operate from.

Angus Voice is for and led by people who have personal experience of accessing mental health services. The aim is to build the capacity and involvement of people who use mental health services. It enables us to contribute to improving the services that affect us. The project does this by building partnerships and challenging stigma and discrimination.

Angus Voice invite applications from individuals who are willing to share their expertise, knowledge and skills in taking forward this important work and ensuring best practice in Board Governance. The individual must be committed in our collective strategic vision for the organisation in creating a more inclusive community where every person’s voice matters.

A combination of interpersonal abilities, organisational capabilities, and a deep understanding of fundraising principles is essential. Duties will include increasing funds by researching and targeting charitable trusts whose criteria match Angus Voice’s aims and values, including third sector and statutory services funding alongside individual and corporate supporter recruitment and development

We are looking for people who have an understanding and commitment to reducing inequality, isolation and stigma and have the following skills and expertise:

This role is not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although expenses for travel may be claimed in line with AV’s expenses policy. We are currently holding bi-monthly Board meetings in Angus but envisage, due to growth, there will be a mix of in person and remote meetings moving forward - so we would consider someone out with the local area taking on this role.

Alzheimer Scotland is Scotland’s national dementia charity. Our aim is to make sure nobody faces dementia alone. We provide support and information to people with dementia, their carers and families, we campaign for the rights of people with dementia and fund vital dementia research.

What you’ll do

You will coordinate and deliver an exciting national engagement project, travelling with our giant inflatable brain exhibit to raise awareness of brain health in schools, communities, and public spaces. This includes planning logistics, managing event set-up and take-down, delivering interactive educational sessions to a wide range of audiences, and supporting associated volunteer and fundraising activities. You’ll be the driving force behind the tour’s day-to-day success - organising schedules, liaising with venues, and ensuring each event runs smoothly, safely, and with impact.

What you’ll have

Your approach will be enthusiastic, proactive, and solutions focused. This is a highly visible and practical role, best suited to someone who enjoys variety, is comfortable presenting to different audiences, and can manage logistical challenges with calmness and efficiency.

You will demonstrate professionalism and warmth, building strong working relationships with stakeholders including schools, volunteers, and local communities. You will work independently but contribute positively to the wider team culture, bringing creativity and energy to the delivery of our mission.

Applicants must have a full and valid driving license and vehicle to be able to travel for this role.

Due to the fixed-term funding, we are looking for someone who is able to start as soon as possible to ensure successful and timely delivery of the project.
