All Aboard is a canal boat and project run by Polwarth Parish Church. The boat hosts unique trips on Edinburgh's Union Canal for community groups and organisations to improve wellbeing, socialise and discover new experiences while surrounded by nature in the heart of the city. Through All Aboard we also offer unique volunteering opportunities to join our crew or become a helmsperson on the boat.

The All Aboard Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the All Aboard canal boat, including coordinating activities and volunteering that take place on board. They will also oversee the maintenance and upkeep of the boat and organise and host events and activities in relation to All Aboard. In doing so, they will encourage positive engagement with the Union Canal across all ages to improve wellbeing and community cohesion.

Key responsibilities

• Management of the day-to-day running of the boat and carrying out other day-to-day activities, as are required for the effective operation of the project, including managing bookings and the All Aboard inbox.

• Maintenance and upkeep of the canal boat, which includes scheduling specialist works, inspections, pump outs and other routine maintenance activities as are reasonably necessary to keep the canal boat in good, working, and safe condition.

• Managing, supporting and training volunteers.

• Helming and/or crewing the canal boat as required.

• Liaising with external organisations and community groups to coordinate their use of the boat in keeping with All Aboard’s key aims: promoting the use of the boat and volunteering opportunities to others, in line with the vision and mission of Polwarth Parish Church.

• Organising and hosting events and activities on behalf of Polwarth Parish Church, service users, including scheduled excursions on the Union Canal.

• Organising the certification of the canal boat, ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations.

• Supporting with health and safety measures.

Fairmilehead Parish Church is seeking a dedicated and reliable Church Caretaker to ensure the cleanliness, maintenance, and overall smooth operation of our church centre. The ideal candidate will possess strong organisational skills, a proactive attitude, and a commitment to supporting the church’s mission by maintaining a welcoming and safe environment for all members and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Welcoming hall users and setting up halls when required.
• Church Centre Maintenance: Perform occasional maintenance tasks, including minor repairs of painting and clearing of storage facilities, ensuring all church facilities and equipment are in good working order.
• Cleaning: Maintain daily the cleanliness of all church areas, including the sanctuary, offices, toilets, kitchen, and common areas. Duties include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and recycling.
• Groundskeeping: Maintain a small area of the church grounds within the church centre - removal of weeds and raking leaves. In winter, maintenance involves snow removal and gritting of pathways. Ensure walkways and parking areas are safe and clear of debris year round.
• Funeral/ Wedding Event Setup and Support: Assist with the setup, and clearing for church services, events, and special activities.
• Security: Open and close the church buildings for services and events. Monitor and ensure the security of the premises, including locking doors and windows.
• Inventory and Supplies: Liaise with church office the cleaning and maintenance supplies.
• Outside Contractors: Liaise with workmen/women as and when required.
• Coordination: Work closely with church members/ volunteers offering help to regular and occasional visitors.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in a maintenance or custodial role, preferably in a church or similar setting.
• Basic knowledge of general repair skills.
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment and tools.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Desirable: ability to work occasional additional hours.

Working Conditions:

• The position requires physical activity, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Work is indoors but involves outdoors work in winter for path clearing,and occasional weeding in summer.
• The Church caretaker must be able to respond to emergency maintenance issues liaising with the church Property Team.
• The Church caretaker is entitled to six weeks annual leave. Approximately two of these are taken over the Christmas and festive period and two at the beginning of July each year when our centre closes. The church centre is also closed on Easter Monday. Working Days Monday - Thursday

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual with experience in youth work to be our Youth Development Leader. We are looking for someone who is passionate about the Good News of Jesus Christ and the spiritual development of young people. You would be expected to worship at Viewpark and be actively involved in the life of the congregation in order to become familiar with the congregation and the wider work undertaken there. The successful applicant’s main focus will be to facilitate and further develop our TeenSpace Project. This involves working with young people from 11 to 17 in conjunction with a range of ecumenical partners and other voluntary and statutory bodies. A wide range of volunteers is involved.

The ideal candidate will:

• Have experience of working with young people,
• Be experienced in starting projects and delivering to completion,
• Have an awareness of current issues affecting young people,
• Be someone who has led teams of volunteers,
• Be an effective communicator in many settings,

Glesga Roasters is a ministry of Bishopbriggs Community Church (‘BCC’), a vibrant church placing hospitality at the heart of its ethos and its welcome. Glesga Roasters is situated within the church building coffee shop and plays a key role in the church engaging with the local community. It also provides opportunities for skills development for young people and some vulnerable groups.

The role will oversee the operations of the coffee shop and the roasters ensuring we deliver a quality service to customers and excellent support to our volunteers and participants. The Manager will be responsible for ensuring Glesga Roasters remains financially viable, but more importantly, remains focussed on the vision and mission of the ministry and of the church.

We are seeking an individual with vision, passion, and a calling for the role, who will show enthusiasm and encouragement to volunteers and customers on a daily basis. We are looking for an individual who can see the potential in others and can create a safe space for people to thrive.
