In this round of trustee recruitment, we are looking for applications from people who are not currently members of Girlguiding who can offer skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Equity, diversity and inclusion, which may include lived experience

• Active in networks across Scottish civic society or experience in influencing others
• Environmental sustainability

Do you have an interest in the supply and provision of new homes, supporting communities, charity finance or charity governance? Do you want the opportunity to set strategy, improve your leadership skills, and make a difference to local communities? If you do, we would be very interested in hearing from you. The Association owns and rents over 2,000 social rented homes in the Angus and Dundee area. We are a registered Charity regulated by both OSCR and the Scottish Housing Regulator and have a staff team of around 50. Our Board of Management members are all volunteers and we value their time and commitment to deliver our aims. You will be reimbursed for out of pocket expenses.

Who we're looking for:

We welcome applications from those with a diverse range of backgrounds and experience and we are particularly interested in people with the following skills. There is no requirement to have had any previous Board experience. What is important is that you have the drive and passion to make a difference and that you are prepared to contribute to discussions that enable positive and collective decision making. We would be interested applicants with experience or an interest in:

• construction, design and the built environment/asset management
• renewable technologies/net zero
• human resources and people management

Successful applicants will receive effective induction and will be supported to learn new skills. The Board meetings are usually held on Wednesday mornings. Our full Board of Management meets 6 times a year. We have 4 sub committees that meet quarterly for Finance, Audit & Risk, Service Delivery, Development and Remuneration. Typically, Board members are on one of the sub committees making the commitment 10 meetings a year. Meetings are normally held in person in Arbroath however we can offer participation using Teams for members who cannot attend in person.

As Treasurer, you will play a crucial role in overseeing our finances, ensuring financial health, and supporting our mission to advocate, nurture, and champion Black talent in the performing arts, screen, and event sectors in Scotland. This voluntary role offers the chance to use your expertise without requiring a significant time commitment.

Key Responsibilities:

• High-level Financial Oversight: Review financial reports and ensure the organisation’s financial stability.
• Board Communication: Keep the board informed about financial matters and reassure them of the organisation’s financial health.
• Budget Oversight: Provide occasional oversight and adjustments to budget models as needed.
• Flagging Issues: The Treasurer should be capable of identifying and isolating financial issues, even if they are minor, and raising flags when necessary.

What We’re Looking For:

• Experienced Professional: Ideally with a career background as a Financial Director or Financial Controller.
• Qualified Accountant: (Must be able to provide membership numbers for verification).
• Confident Communicator: Able to inspire confidence, provide reassurance and communicate financial matters clearly.
• Strategic Thinker: Someone who can provide high-level oversight and has a keen eye for detail.
• Familiarity with Charity Finance: Understanding of charity finance issues and governance, though specific software experience (e.g., SAGE) is not required.

Up2Us is a dynamic and innovative third sector organisation, recognised by the Care Inspectorate as “going the extra mile” in providing residential care and community support to children and young people who have experienced childhood trauma and need support in their journey to adulthood. Job Purpose

Being a Trustee is both rewarding and challenging! Our Trustees play a key role in making sure that Up2Us stays true to its mission and values by serving the interests of our young people and families to achieve better life chances, better life experiences and better wellbeing.

It is an exciting time to work with Up2Us as we endeavour to expand our free “Time for Change” project which supports young women, caught up in the Criminal Justice System. We also plan to proceed with building a therapeutic centre named by our young people as “The Ace Space,”. The first Trauma Centre in Scotland will combine a full range of therapeutic, life, leisure, learning, and work skills for young people from one central hub.

As a member of the Up2Us Board you will:

• be responsible for the strategic, tactical and operational direction of Up2us
• uphold our values and principles
• receive reports from the Chief Executive and other staff on Up2Us operations and finances, to inform decision making and make sure that all statutory and legal requirements for Up2Us are met.
