Company Description
Saheliya is a specialist BAME- led mental health and well-being support organisation working with women (12+ years) experiencing racial inequality in Edinburgh, Glasgow and other parts of Scotland. We provide a range of wrap around services including counselling, complementary therapies, group work, practical support, advocacy, youth work and learning opportunities.
What we are looking from you
We are looking for women* with relevant professional and lived experience of racialisation who can bring their expertise to our Board of Trustees. A background in Campaigning/Public Affairs, Strategy, Funding, Finance or HR would be beneficial.
Enthusiasm – For supporting women and girls experiencing racial and gender inequality
Commitment – 3-4 hours every 4-6 weeks incl. Board meetings
Teamwork – Good interpersonal and communication skills
Meetings are currently held every six weeks. We aim to hold every second meeting at our Edinburgh hub and every second in our Glasgow one. Meetings are usually in the evenings around 5 or 5.30pm for around 2 hours maximum. Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
Training
Trustees will be given and induction pack and all the tools required to understand the responsibilities of the role. Key staff will be available to support the role and answer any questions about the organisation. Each area of the organisation will be covered by either senior staff or current Trustees. Opportunities for training are regularly explored and offered to Trustees as required.
