PMH Borders is a much valued perinatal mental health charity established for over 16 years with a proven track record and evidence of growing demand. We provide psychological therapies and counselling to parents and families across the Scottish Borders from our base in Galashiels.

As we develop our service, we are looking to recruit four new Trustee Board Members with experience in business management, change management, social media or HR.

This is an exciting time to join our Team. We are at the start of a new chapter, with ambitious plans to redevelop our service and drive meaningful growth to become a sustainable and socially responsible charity.

Our 2 North Lanarkshire Befriending groups support children and young people living across North Lanarkshire, aged 8 to 16, some of whom have additional support needs (ASN).

The Monday group and the Wednesday ASN group provides a range of weekly group activities which work towards specific outcomes identified by young people and their parents/carers. These activities focus on both social and practical life skills, including:

• Creative workshops: arts, crafts, music, and drama that allow participants to express themselves creatively and build confidence.
• Life skills workshops: age-appropriate activities such as baking, hot chocolate or smoothie making that foster self-sufficiency and resilience.
• Physical activities: outdoor play, sports nights to promote wellbeing and improve physical health.
• Community outings: laser tag, top golf, Flip Out, activities chosen to enhance social skills and provide experiences that may otherwise be inaccessible.

The Group Facilitator will help design and lead on a calendar of activities that will empower children and young people to try new things, develop skills, build confidence, and (importantly) have fun. You will be a positive role model supporting the children and young people to actively engage with the activity, feel safe and respected and build meaningful peer relationships.

You will have a supportive team of volunteers that will look to you for support and guidance. You will work collaboratively with the Project Coordinator to ensure all activities are risk assessed and children and young people at risk are supported in line with our Child Protection and Safeguarding polices, creating individualised, robust support plans.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop the community centre, diversify its range of activities and increase income. The job is very varied involving both public facings aspects and long term strategic thinking to enhance the community centre and its role as a key hub for the community.

Vision

Our vision is to enhance, develop and support this fragile rural community, enabling its residents to thrive, and to create a welcoming environment for the many tourists whose presence in turn supports the ongoing sustainability of the community.

Background

TDCA is a charity which runs Loch Torridon Community Centre and employs a part time centre manager, a part time finance officer and a part time cleaner. In addition, TDCA employs a full-time community development worker to develop community projects and assets which in time will generate income to support the community centre. TDCA also employs a part time resilience officer to improve the resilience of the local community.

LTCC is a hub for year-round social activities and events, promoting physical and mental health and wellbeing. It is a meeting point for the community and provides employment opportunities for local residents and space for services such as the Post Office, community cinema, live music, osteopathy clinics, gym and other health activities. The café is an important part of the centre, bringing together both residents and visitors, while the art and craft gallery provides locals artists and community businesses the opportunity to exhibit and display their products, generating sales, particularly in the tourist season.

Purpose of the post

As the centre has grown from a small village hall to a busy hub for the whole of the Torridon district, the staffing requirements have also grown and we are now looking for a senior manager to lead the smooth running of the Community Centre; to promote the use of the Centre more widely; to increase TDCA revenue and capital grants; and to ensure the continued success of the annual Celtman event. The Board of Directors has been directly involved in many aspects of running the centre and now needs to appoint someone to take over that work, freeing Directors up to focus on their wider remit while supporting the operations & events manager as s/he develops into the role. Beyond the centre TDCA is working on a number of additional projects which will, as the organisation grows further, become part of this new role.

The One World Shop was established over 40 years ago and has played a lead role in the Fair Trade movement in Scotland, including helping Edinburgh and Glasgow become Fairtrade cities and Scotland to become a Fair Trade Nation.

As well as running a thriving city centre shop, we have an online shop and we support schools, faith groups and local businesses to learn about and sell fair trade products. We currently employ 7 paid staff and over 20 volunteers. Our aim is to reduce poverty in deprived areas of the world through trading fairly and we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and promoting low-carbon living.

We are seeking to appoint several new voluntary Management Committee members; we are particularly looking at people with skills and experience in any of the following:

• Human Resources
• Property, leases, surveying
• Retail sales and management
• Business management
• Finance, funding, ethical investment

Board meetings are held every two months by Zoom or occasionally in the shop.
