What is a Trustee?

In simple terms:Trustees are the guardians of our charity – ensuring we stay true to our mission of helping cancer patients access treatment while managing our resources responsibly and planning for sustainable growth.

The legal bit:Trustees have overall control of a charity and are responsible for making sure it's doing what it was set up to do. They exercise their powers and duties with care, always acting in the charity's best interests, ensuring compliance with charity law and our governing document.

You'll be part of a supportive boardworking collaboratively to govern The Driving Force effectively.

Time Commitment

We respect that trustees are volunteers with busy lives. Here's what we ask:

Core Commitment:

• 5-6 board meetingsper year (approximately 1 1/2 hours each, scheduled in advance)
• Occasional email/phone consultations(1-2 hours per month)
• Annual strategic planning session(half day)

Total time: approximately 15-20 hours per year

Flexibility:We schedule meetings with trustees' availability in mind. If you can't make a meeting, we just ask for advance notice.

Additional Involvement (Optional):Some trustees choose to get involved in specific projects, sub-committees, or events – but this is entirely voluntary.

Would you like to contribute to the work of Capability Scotland? We are looking to appoint new Trustees to complement the skills of our existing Board, to drive change and help us shape our strategic direction, giving clarity to our purpose, aims and objectives.

We are looking for a diverse range of people who may have an interest in helping us prepare for future challenges and demands. We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with expertise in Health & Social Care/Social Work, fundraising/marketing/communications, education and technology, as we explore the use of assistive technology and AI in the delivery of person centred care. We would also love to see applications from people with lived experience of disability.

Our Board’s responsibility is to ensure the highest standards of governance and provide oversight, scrutiny and support of the management of the organisation.

This is an exciting time to join the organisation. We are entering a period of ambitious growth and transformation, with plans underway to redevelop our largest residential service in Perth. Our Inclusive Community Project will enable us to continue delivering exemplary care, while creating a modern environment shaped by innovation and best practice. The insight and expertise of our Board are central to this journey, helping to ensure the development becomes a leading example of future focused care.

Capability Scotland is proud to operate Corseford College, the first and only college in Scotland dedicated specifically to young adults with multiple and complex disabilities. The achievements of our students are a powerful testament to the success of this pioneering model. As we look ahead, our Board will play a crucial role in supporting the college’s continued growth and development, ensuring that many more young people can benefit from this life changing opportunity.

We continue to develop innovative, high quality solutions to address gaps in care and support provision.

This is a non-remunerated position, however, travel and subsistence expenses are available in accordance with our Expenses Policy.

The key aspect of the role requires you to be responsible for safely transporting veterans with sight loss, to and from the activity hub in West Lothian. Our driving team play a huge part in ensuring that the veterans can attend the Activity Hubs and are at times needed to provide support to ensure veterans can access the vehicles.

As the welcoming face of Sight Scotland Veterans, you will often be the first contact the veterans have each day, and as such are an important representative for the organisation. The veterans enjoy chatting with the driving team whilst on the vehicles and a welcoming and friendly personality is an asset. You will work be working in a fun and friendly environment.

NLDF (North Lanarkshire Disability Forum) is a user led charity operating within the heart of North Lanarkshire. We are passionate about supporting individuals and their carers living with long term condition and/or disabilities. Through our projects we offer information and advice on community supports, financial eligibility as well as form filling support, information on people’s rights and linking people into the right services.

We are part of the commissioned partnership to provide Administration of Engagement and Participation (Supported People) in North Lanarkshire, ensuring meaningful involvement including underrepresented groups. To support this core work we are now looking to add an Engagement & Participation Development officer to join our senior team.

This role will be based within NLDF, and supported by the Partnership, this includes Lanarkshire Links, who support mental health service users and carers and Voice Experience Forum, who champion and promote the voices of older people. Through this Partnership we look to develop an effective network to ensure no care groups are left behind and those who want to engage and participate in their health, care and community, can do so in a way that is meaningful to them.

We have secured additional funds to offer a community fund, this will be a fund available annually for organisations in NL, access to this will be via an application process. This is to support Engagement & Participation opportunities in NL, as Network Lead you will be expected to help develop, promote and facilitate application activity and associated support groups may need to apply.

About the role

Following a successful tender bid to Health and Care North Lanarkshire, NLDF, on behalf of the Partnership, are recruiting a senior position within the organisation. Reporting to the Development Manager as part of a management team approach, the E&P Network Development officer will

• Develop and lead the delivery of key objectives as agreed by The Partnership in relation to supporting engagement and influence across North Lanarkshire and
• Facilitation of the E&P Network.
• Arrange and facilitate consultation and involvement requests from key partners.
• Develop, promote and facilitate a community fund.
• Have a key role in the operational delivery and development of the organisation’s key objectives through the Administration of Engagement & Participation (Supported people) commissioned by Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire, working closely with the Development Manager, the Partnership, our Board of Directors, and key partners.
• To contribute to the development of NLDF.
