What the role is

This is a Part-Time (28 hrs/wk), Fixed Term post to 31 May 2029.

Reporting to the Communities Manager and working alongside the Communities team, the Make Your Mark Skills Development Officer will deliver a programme of accredited skills training focused on built, cultural and natural heritage to people facing complex barriers to employment.

The post-holder will work closely with our partners Make Your Mark and Access to Industry. This post will form part of the wider Make Your Mark programme, supporting people facing barriers to employment through training and pathways into volunteering and employment opportunities, supporting heritage volunteer organisers, and supporting sectoral research, knowledge and practice.

Delivery will focus on providing a structured programme of accredited skills training to raise awareness of the importance of heritage, support participants with the knowledge and tools to celebrate, record and preserve local heritage, and equip them with skills to take on heritage volunteering opportunities.

What you’ll need to have

We are looking for someone with experience in teaching/training/supported learning, particularly for individuals facing barriers to learning. You should have a passion for Scotland’s historic environment and an ability to use that passion to support learning and action for local heritage. Experience of working with a range of partners will be an advantage.

While the post will be based in Stirling, the training delivery location will be in Edinburgh with further locations being sought, therefore ability to travel is essential.

ELGT is looking to employ a practical, site-focused Greenspace Projects Officer to help deliver a wide range of environmental and landscape projects — from parks and active travel routes to habitat creation and woodland works.

You will spend a significant amount of time on site, working with contractors, solving problems and keeping projects moving.

You might be working in landscaping, construction, or environmental delivery already — and looking for a role with more purpose and variety.

Key responsibilities include:

• Supervising contractors on site – monitoring quality, progress and performance
• Coordinating works and solving on-site issues to keep projects on track
• Supporting project planning, design development and programming
• Checking drawings, specifications and works on the ground
• Supporting contract admin, snagging and project handover
• Monitoring health & safety and compliance on site
• Working with councils, partners and communities

Who this role would suit:

Essential:

• Experience in landscaping, construction, or land-based project delivery
• Strong site supervision or contractor coordination experience
• Experience working to drawings, specifications and programmes
• Good understanding of health & safety on site
• Confidence dealing with contractors and resolving issues

Desirable:

• Green infrastructure or habitat project experience
• Public sector or funded project experience
• Relevant H&S qualifications (IOSH/SSSTS/SMSTS)

In addition to the above, you should have a Driving license and access to a vehicle will be required. There may also be occasional evening or weekend work.

Parents for Future Scotland became a charity two years ago as a result of grassroots parent organising and is now a small self-employed staff team with a growing network of activists. We seek to make climate action the norm among all parents in Scotland. We are in the midst of a big step change, increasing our influence and reach across the country, and we need you to help us in doing so. About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly-motivated Community Project Manager to lead the delivery of our Active Travel and Clean Air Project across 10 Edinburgh schools. This role combines project management, community engagement and partnership development. You will work directly with parents, schools, as well as local council and community partners to increase active and sustainable travel, establish and strengthen walking and bike buses , deliver air-pollution awareness activities, and build long-term community leadership. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting schools to develop tailored action plans, empowering parents to lead change within their communities and ensuring active travel schemes become sustainable beyond the life of the project.

Key responsibilities

• Work with the Learning For Sustainability lead within Edinburgh City Council to onboard schools where necessary.
• Set clear expectations with schools on what they will need to deliver in order to take part in our clean air project.
• Establish excellent relationships with key staff in schools and maintain regular contact in order to support the delivery and promotion of the project.
• Identify and up-skill community “leads” within each school community, giving them the skills/confidence to organise and lead their own self-sustaining active travel initiatives.
• Support the running of active travel schemes on the ground in the mornings term-time (Mon - Friday) until they become self-sustaining.
• Develop bespoke active travel action plans for each participating school and an overall work plan/strategy which demonstrates how the project will meet wider organisational goals.
• Encourage peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing amongst school groups.
• Build a pool of volunteers who can deliver air pollution workshops in schools through (1) training volunteers in workshop facilitation skills and the content of our air pollution workshops (2) setting up workshops with participating schools
• Post on our socials regularly and be an active member on our WhatsApp community
• Monitor project outcomes and ensure delivery against targets.
• Maintain accurate records, collect monitoring data and contribute to project reporting.
• Work closely with partner organisations, local authorities and schools to maximise project impact.
• Promote a strong understanding of Parents For Future Scotland amongst parent communities, within your local authority and with partner organisations, and support parents to become organisation members.
• Share learning and best practice through local and national networks.
• Contribute to wider discussions on active travel, climate action and public health.

Skills and experience

• You must be able to competently ride a bike.
• You must be a qualified Cycle Ride Leader and First Aid trained or be willing to complete the training at your own expense within the first 3 months of starting.
• The candidate will be our ambassador on the ground. It is vital that they feel inspired by our vision, mission and aims, and that they have a proven ability to motivate and inspire others.
• Experience of delivering and managing community projects.
• Proven ability to tailor messaging to different audiences.
• Proven experience of creating strong relationships with partner organisations, communities facing additional barriers and local councils.
• Proven experience of building the skills, confidence and capacities of communities.
• Experience of devising and facilitating workshops, meetings and community discussions.
• Experience of conducting monitoring and evaluation and report writing.
• An understanding of active travel, public health, environmental issues or behaviour change.
• An understanding of social justice perspectives and the systems that cause climate breakdown

Desirable

• Previous experience of working on sustainability and/or active travel-related community projects or initiatives.

What we offer

• 3 days per week on a self-employed basis at £200 per day for 28 weeks (term-time) from August - 31st March (£16,800 in total)
• Flexible work environment with flexible hours (although this role will require that you are able to be present for the school commute up to five mornings per week (Mon- Fri term-time). For this reason we will only consider applicants who live in or nearby Edinburgh.
• Working from home (with team check-ins regularly).

Reporting to the Our Heritage, Our Future Coordinator, the Our Heritage, Our Future Project Officer will support the project team in delivering a programme of place-based cultural heritage activity as part of the Our Heritage, Our Future: Community, Climate and Heritage Action project.

This project will provide a multi-faceted, community-based approach within communities and across heritage sites throughout Scotland, with the core aims of:

• taking action to conserve and enhance historic monuments,

• engaging with communities to bring heritage to life,

• raising awareness of the importance of conserving heritage, and the benefits heritage can provide for individuals,

• using heritage as a means to enhance a shared sense of place and purpose, and

• creating a lasting legacy of ownership and ongoing heritage conservation.

What you’ll need to have

We are looking for someone with a passion for Scotland’s historic environment and an understanding of the risks posed by the climate emergency.

You will have experience of working in a community setting, supporting learning and coordinating volunteer activity.
