The Eric Liddell Community is a thriving care charity and community hub based in the heart of Morningside. Every year, we welcome over 80,000 visitors through our doors, provide specialist support for people living with dementia and unpaid carers, host hundreds of community activities, and generate vital income through our café, room hire, office rentals and community facilities.

We're looking for an experienced and proactive Interim Community Hub Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of our Community Hub while helping us prepare for the future.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys combining operational leadership with practical problem-solving and improvement. You'll oversee our front desk, café and caretaking teams, ensure our building remains safe and welcoming, and help us identify new ways to maximise the impact, sustainability and income-generating potential of our Hub.

About the role

Reporting to the CEO and working as part of the leadership team, you will:

• Lead the day-to-day operation of our busy Community Hub
• Manage front desk, café and caretaking functions
• Oversee health & safety, facilities management and compliance
• Support room hire, office rental and tenant relationships
• Drive operational improvements and strengthen systems and processes
• Help identify opportunities to increase income and improve the use of our building and spaces
• Lead and support a dedicated team of staff and volunteers
• Contribute to the future development and sustainability of The Eric Liddell Community

The Role:

The Student Opportunities Officer (International) leads on the Students’ Association’s work to empower student leaders and groups to deliver engaging and inclusive activities for international students and non-international students who are interested in cultural exchange, with the goal of creating a community of truly global citizens.

You will be the key staff contact for our four international peer support programmes:

• Global Buddies
• Tandem Language Exchange
• International Foundation Programme (IFP)
• English as a Second Language PALS (ESL PALS)

You will oversee volunteer recruitment, induction, and training, as well as the strategic development of the schemes, ensuring as many students as possible have access to these opportunities.

You will also collaborate with our cohort of international and multicultural societies to produce key events and activities, particularly during busy periods such as Welcome Week and Give it a Go Week.

This role will sit within the Societies team, and you will also work closely with the team and wider department to support on key projects throughout the year. You will collaborate especially closely with our Peer Learning and Support team within the department to ensure a coordinated approach to volunteer recruitment, training and support.

The Person:

You will be a confident and experienced project worker with excellent communication and interpersonal, organisational and IT skills. As the front line of support for our members, you will be a natural people-person with a flair for on-the-spot problem-solving, an ability to stay calm under pressure, and a natural warmth.

You will work in partnership with our incredible volunteer student leaders to ensure our Global programmes are running smoothly, and develop and enhance them based on student feedback and robust evaluation.

You must be able to maintain a large network of staff contacts across the Students’ Association and University, be confident in stakeholder management, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Customer satisfaction and service excellence will be central to your work with a consistently professional approach to your duties and keen attention to detail.

The Role:

The Officer (Peer Support) will empower students to take a holistic and autonomous approach to community building and facilitate the development and expansion of peer-led activity across the Association and the wider University environment.

This will include:

Supporting school-based peer support programmes of activity in line with the Association’s methodologies and approaches

Leading the annual distribution of grants to students (Student Opportunities Development Fund)

Developing evidence-based guides to support student-led community building and wellbeing activities

Collaborating with departmental colleagues to empower students to lead community building activity (Blether Together)

Working collaboratively with student sabbatical officers, staff, and the wider student body to develop robust, evidence-based plans for future community building events that celebrate the diversity of the student population

Supporting a review of the Association’s contribution to peer mentoring programmes across the university and associated change management plans

This role will also work as part of a team on delivering support for a wider range of student groups and will contribute to our overall objective of providing all students access to diverse, inclusive and innovative activities and developments, in order to enhance their student experience.

You will collaborate with colleagues within Student Opportunities and a variety of other teams across the Association, including planning for Welcome Week, Careers Fairs, National Volunteering Week, Give it A Go, Student Awards etc.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic administrator to join our team at our community hub.

The Reception Administrator is a key member of the Facilities Team and the face of the

organisation, ensuring that Space provides a welcoming and safe environment for staff and

visitors.

The role is a central point of contact across all Space projects, providing administration and

technical support to staff and volunteers, and ensuring the efficient operation of reception,

office and meeting rooms.

This is a very varied role, with no two days the same, typically you’ll be:

• Providing a warm and friendly welcome to all hub visitors.
• Handling incoming calls, emails and mail ensuring all enquiries are managed efficiently and directed to the right person
• Manage room bookings from enquiry to completion liaising with clients to ensure their specific needs are met and sales opportunities are maximised.
• Supporting staff and volunteers with administration and IT tasks, continually monitoring systems to ensure efficiency and cost control.
• Rota planning for the Facilities Team to ensure appropriate levels of staffing to keep the building safe and operating efficiently.
• Providing on the job supervision and training to reception staff and volunteers.
• Maintain office equipment and supplies, managing contracts with the suppliers.
• Coordinate site visits by contractors to carry out repairs and maintenance ensuring that all relevant policies and insurance requirements are adhered to.
• Engage with and build relationships with the local community, individuals and organisations, to promote our services.

What you’ll bring:

• A minimum of 2 years of experience working in a busy administration role.
• Excellent digital skills, being confident in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint and Teams.
• Good grasp of basic digital equipment functionality and problem solving, including mobile phones, laptops, printers.
• Clear communication and interpersonal skills, being able to naturally connect with people on all levels across the organisation and with stakeholders, and easily build a reputation for being approachable and trustworthy
• A positive can-do attitude, ready to roll your sleeves up, take on challenges and manage your own workload with minimal supervision
• A calm and patient manner, able to keep a cool head when managing competing priorities and showing respect to all people whatever their background.

The hours for this role will predominantly be Monday – Friday between 9-5pm, however there may be a requirement for occasional evening and weekend working to facilitate events. The role is 4 days per week; there is some flexibility over which days are worked however it must include a Monday and Friday.
