Scottish Book Trust’s Reading is Caring (RiC) team delivers the Reading is Caring programme that is designed to train both professional and family carers in how to use shared reading techniques to improve the connection and enhance wellbeing with the person living with dementia.

Following a successful award of funding from the Dementia Resilient Communities Fund, Scottish Book Trust is looking to appoint a Reading is Caring Manager to continue the development of the programme over the next 12 months. The Reading is Caring Manager will be responsible for the strategic planning, development and evaluation of the Reading is Caring programme. Our aim is for the programme to become a nationally accessible, self-sustaining model of training in our evidence based shared reading methodologies by advocating for and promoting the programme across the dementia sector.

Due to the limited nature of the funding, we are ideally looking for someone who can start this full-time position immediately to ensure delivery of the project goals within the funding time frame.

The role also includes developing/securing multiple income strands to enhance ongoing sustainability.

The role line manages the RiC Trainer and RiC Co-ordinator, as well as supervising freelancers on short term contracts

Role Purpose:

Often the first point of contact for Members, partners and media, you’ll work with a range of stakeholders across the city, playing an integral role in one of the world’s oldest conservation charities. You’ll work with our small team of two, and our incredible volunteers to design and deliver a new audience engagement plan. You’ll support and grow our Membership through the delivery of events from our annual talks and tours to Edinburgh’s Doors Open Days (part of Scotland’s largest free heritage festival). WHALE Arts is looking for a friendly, practical and community-minded Community Gardener to help develop and maintain our vibrant community garden in Wester Hailes.

This exciting role will support local people to connect with nature, creativity and each other through gardening, food growing, outdoor activities and seasonal events. The successful candidate will work closely with local people to create a welcoming and inclusive outdoor space that supports wellbeing, biodiversity and community connection.

We are looking for someone with experience in gardening or horticulture, strong people skills, and a passion for community-led green spaces. This is a hands-on role involving practical garden maintenance, supporting participants and helping deliver creative and nature-based activities. This post is funded through the National Lottery Community Fund for 3 years to April 2029.

WHALE Arts is a building-based and place-based community-led charity and social enterprise, founded by local people in 1992. Our mission is to be the creative heart of a thriving community.

Role Purpose

The Community Gardener will work with local residents, volunteers and staff to maintain and develop the WHALE Arts Community Garden as a welcoming, accessible and creative community space. The role will support gardening, horticulture and outdoor activities that promote wellbeing, sustainability, biodiversity and community participation.

The Abbotsford Trust is the charity that promotes the life, works and legacy of 19th century writer Sir Walter Scott and safeguards his historic home at Abbotsford. This is an important role within a small, but mighty, development team of three people.

If you are keen to get involved in all aspects of fundraising, love being hands on, and would relish being behind the scenes in a historic house, then this could be the role for you. The perfect candidate would have experience with CRMs ideally within a charity, have outstanding attention to detail, be systems orientated/a good project manager, as well as having excellent customer service skills.

Key responsibilities:

• Undertake all fundraising administration and be the ‘super-user’ for the CRM and other donations systems, managing amongst others: donations, direct debits, mailings, newsletters, and analysis.
• Steward donors and funders following the donor journey across all streams of fundraising, primarily membership, major donors and trusts & foundation.
• Maximise income specifically from the Friends of Abbotsford and from gift aid.
• Undertake: a) all monitoring and reporting of funds raised for the Development team, and b) reporting and claiming for grants.
