Argyll & Bute Citizens Advice Bureau (ABCAB) is an independent member of the Citizens Advice network in Scotland. The Bureau provides free, impartial, confidential and independent advice to residents across Argyll & Bute on a wide range of issues including debt, benefits, housing, energy, and consumer rights. The Citizens Advice network in Scotland plays a key role in tackling poverty, inequality and social injustice, while influencing policy and practice at both local and national levels.

The Energy Debt Adviser role sits within the ABCAB Energy Debt Project, which has developed in response to the ongoing fuel crisis and persistently high levels of fuel poverty across Argyll & Bute. The project aims to support individuals and families who are struggling to manage fuel costs, address energy-related debt, improve energy efficiency, and resolve disputes with energy suppliers.

The post holder will provide in-depth energy and fuel debt advice, advocacy, and casework support to clients, with a particular focus on vulnerable households. The role also has a proactive outreach element, supporting community engagement and contributing to improved awareness of energy efficiency, fuel rights, and available support schemes.

Job description

The Energy Debt Adviser is responsible for delivering high-quality, impartial energy advice and undertaking casework to support clients experiencing fuel debt, fuel poverty, and energy supplier disputes. The role requires specialist knowledge of the energy sector, strong advocacy skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and partner organisations.

This is a rewarding role in a supportive, experienced team, where you will make a genuine difference by providing one-to-one independent advocacy to people aged 16 and over with learning or physical disabilities, autism, and older people. You will support individuals in having their voices heard, helping them express their views, understand their rights, explore their options, and participate in decisions that affect their lives.

The role involves travelling throughout Edinburgh to meet people in a range of community and clinical settings. Travel expenses are covered, and you will be supported to plan your work in a way that is both effective and sustainable.

Working closely with the Service Coordinator, you will help maintain accurate service data and support the development of quarterly reports, helping demonstrate the impact of advocacy.

This is a role that offers a high degree of autonomy, alongside regular support, supervision, and opportunities to connect with colleagues across the organisation.

What the role is really like

AROS (the Anti-Racism Observatory for Scotland) is a bold, community-rooted initiative dedicated to challenging systemic racism in government and the public sector and holding power to account. Community outreach and participation play a vital role in AROS’s work with communities adversely impacted by racism.

The postholder will identify, reach out to, and build relationships with adversely racialised communities, grassroots groups and organisations across Scotland. The role will also entail designing, planning and delivering programmes of community engagement activities, using co-production and other community development approaches. The postholder will assist with the recruitment of lived experience panel members and provide ongoing administrative support, including organising panel meetings, preparing materials and facilitating participation.

This role will involve travel across Scotland and entails out-of-hours working.

Hosted by the University of Strathclyde in partnership with the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights (CRER) and funded by the Scottish Government, AROS is in a critical transition period, working towards full independence in December 2027.

We are looking for a motivated and proactive Senior Corporate Fundraising Officer to grow and steward meaningful relationships with major corporate partners across Scotland.

This new role will focus on securing new business from banks, national organisations and large employers, while also strengthening existing partnerships to deliver sustainable, multi-year income.

Working within our Fundraising and Communications team, you will play a key part in driving our ambition to significantly increase unrestricted income, collaborating closely with colleagues to develop compelling partnership propositions, impactful campaigns and engaging corporate volunteering opportunities. This is an exciting opportunity to shape a growing income stream and help us reach more people living with or at risk of HIV and hepatitis C.

This role will work closely with the Income Generation Manager and Senior Marketing and Communications Manager, and will complement the work of our Fundraising Officer, who leads on community fundraising and community-linked corporate relationships.

The postholder will collaborate with the fundraising team to identify and develop warm corporate opportunities emerging from events and community activity, ensuring a joined-up approach to stewarding and growing corporate engagement across Scotland.

As a charity that is not fully funded by statutory sources, voluntary income plays a vital and growing role in sustaining our services. This post will be central to increasing awareness of our funding model and inspiring corporate partners to invest in our mission.
