We are seeking an inspiring and values driven Chair of the Board to lead our Trustees at a pivotal point in our journey. With a proud history of delivering adoption services for more than a century, the charity has grown to also provide a mainstream fostering service, alongside our therapy centre, supporting children, young people and families living within a 60 mile radius of our office in Edinburgh. A key focus of our current strategy is to improve the overall financial resilience of the organisation by broadening our philanthropic support base and extending our services to the sector more widely on a fee-paying basis.

As Chair, you will provide inclusive leadership to the Board, ensure strong governance and safeguarding, and work in close partnership with the Chief Executive to set strategic direction and uphold our mission and values. You will help ensure the organisation is financially sustainable, well governed, and delivering the highest quality outcomes for children and families, and you will support the Chief Executive in delivering the strategic objectives of the organisation.

This is a voluntary role, requiring approximately 2–3 days per month, and offers a meaningful opportunity to use your leadership experience to make a lasting difference. The Royal College of General Practitioners (Scotland) is seeking an enthusiastic and committed individual to take on the role of Chair of the Scottish Patient Forum.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead an established online advisory group made up of patient members from across Scotland. The Forum ensures that lived experience and the patient voice continue to inform RCGP Scotland’s work, policy development and strategic direction.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and facilitate three online Patient Forum meetings per year.
• Represent the forum at:
  • RCGP Scottish Council meetings (three online meetings and one hybrid meeting per year)
  • The College’s UK-wide Patient and Carers Participation Group (PCPG) meetings each year (four online meetings per year)
• Work with the RCGP Scotland team to guide agenda setting and Forum priorities.
• Contribute to RCGP policy work, consultation responses, and communications including press and social media where appropriate.
• Represent patient perspectives at relevant internal and external groups, workshops and events when required.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from individuals who:

• Understand or are interested in current health and social care issues in Scotland and have an awareness of key current matters relating to general practice.
• Have an interest in the work and aims of RCGP Scotland.
• Ideally bring experience in chairing meetings, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to contributing positively to the Forum’s work.

Based in Wester Hailes, our small but dedicated team delivers community-based activities, outreach programmes, and opportunities that empower people to fully participate in local community life across South West Edinburgh and beyond.

We’re looking for new Non-Executive Directors to join our Board, with a particular focus on:

• People from minority ethnic communities living in Wester Hailes or surrounding areas;
• Young Black people (18+);
• People with lived experience of racism and social exclusion;
• Individuals who can contribute skills, experience, or insight in one or more of the following areas: fundraising and finance, child protection, risk management, human resources, community learning & development, marketing, communications and policy development. You do not need prior Board experience — support, training and guidance will be provided;
• We are particularly seeking a Treasurer.

About the Role of Board Members

As a Non-Executive Director (Board Member), you will:

• Help shape SCOREscotland’s strategic direction;
• Provide oversight, support, and constructive challenge to the Management Team;
• Ensure the organisation is well-governed, financially sustainable, and true to its values.

Board Members meet regularly (currently every two months) and work collectively to ensure the charity operates effectively and in line with Scottish charity law.

About Urban Uprising

Urban Uprising improves the life chances of disadvantaged young people through rock climbing.

Our programmes support physical, social and personal development, giving young people access to highly trained, positive adult role models. We work with those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to take part in activities like climbing, helping them build confidence, resilience and a sense of possibility.

We currently work in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Cambridge and Bristol, partnering with local youth organisations to reach young people experiencing disadvantage, often from deprived communities.

Our Board

Urban Uprising is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) with a committed and supportive Board of Trustees drawn from a range of backgrounds.

The Board meets at least four times per year, with additional engagement and input as needed between meetings. Trustees work collaboratively with each other and the staff team to ensure strong governance, strategic direction and long-term sustainability.

The role

Trustees play a central role in the governance of Urban Uprising and support the charity’s mission and values at a strategic level.

We are looking for two people to join the Board. We are intentionally keeping this role open and skills-agnostic and are keen to hear from people who are motivated, thoughtful and care deeply about supporting young people.

No previous Trustee experience is required. Induction, training and ongoing support will be provided.
