About the role
This post is responsible for the management and development of the Housing Law Service, the Telephone & Online Advice Services and the Central Support team within Community & Services. Collaboration and joined up working are vital to effectively support the delivery of the Shelter Scotland Strategic Plan.
Role specifics
As Head of Services, you’ll share responsibility for leading Shelter Scotland’s Community & Services department, helping to develop and deliver our annual operational plan in line with our Strategic Plan. You’ll work across teams to deliver key projects and programmes, ensure strong governance, quality and compliance, and use evidence and insight from our services to drive improvement and influence change. You’ll jointly lead high-quality advice services, take shared responsibility for safeguarding, manage budgets effectively and support income generation by building strong internal relationships and contributing to compelling cases for support.

- Knowledge and understanding of the operating environment for third sector organisations in Scotland.

Being a Trustee
Our Board of Trustees is a non-executive Board with overall legal responsibility for the direction, management and control of Shelter and is collectively accountable for compliance with charity law, company law and other legislative and regulatory requirements. As a Trustee, you will have the chance to support and shape our work and strategic direction. Trusteeship can help you gain experience of strategy and leadership. It will give you experience of setting a strategic vision, influencing and negotiation, and managing risk. If you already have significant experience in these areas, it can be stimulating to use it in a different and potentially challenging context. As a Trustee, you will be part of a team and will have the opportunity to apply your unique skills and experience while learning from others. Working closely with a passionate team of people who have different perspectives is often one of the most enjoyable aspects of the role. People with lived or learned experience of homelessness can bring powerful perspectives to our Board and play an important role in shaping our strategy. Terms of Appointment Terms of office are normally limited to a maximum of two terms, each of three years.
Remuneration
Trustees receive no fees, remuneration, salary or other financial benefits nor any other material benefits in their role at Shelter. However, they can claim reasonable expenses for attendance at Board and other meetings or events in line with the Trustee Expenses Policy.
Application Criteria
Charity Commission CC30 Guidance and the Charities Act 2011 disqualifies some people from acting as a trustee. Shelter will not appoint a person who is not allowed by law to be a trustee.

Your role
As Delivery Manager at Children’s Hearings Scotland, you will be at the heart of transformation from large scale programmes to continuous improvement projects— driving innovation, fostering collaboration, and ensuring that every improvement reflects the voices of children, young people, and those who support them.
You will play a pivotal role in enabling CHS to achieve its strategic and operational priorities, delivering meaningful and sustainable improvements across the organisation and the Children’s Hearing system.
About you
You must have experience of managing end to end change and be familiar with the principles, methodologies and tools of change and continuous improvement. You’ll work closely with subject matter experts to deliver, so will have a collaborative, enabling and coaching approach.
You’ll be working in a system of complex stakeholders, roles and responsibilities where infants, children and young people are at the heart of what we do. For that reason you will be experienced at working in collaboration across team and organisational boundaries with a sharp focus on stakeholder engagement and management. You’ll be an excellent
communicator, holding the narrative of change and be confident in the use of data and information to inform and shape our decisions and actions.
You’ll be regularly reporting on progress and impact to stakeholders including senior management, so a confident approach to report writing, presenting and engaging people is critical.
You will have a resilient and problem solving approach, navigating the complexities of change with open communication, project and programme expertise and alignment to our values at Children’s Hearings Scotland.

The Head of Legal Services will provide line management, leadership, and professional support to legal staff, strengthening child-centred practice and building confidence and capacity across the team.
You will ensure the legal team is equipped to deliver high-impact, child-centred legal services that empower children and young people to use the law to make positive change in their lives.
The role will oversee the effective management of legal resources and the day-to-day operation of the legal practice, ensuring the smooth delivery of Clan’s services. These include child-centred legal outreach, the Children’s Rights Helpline, lawyer-led training, Legal Support for Advocacy, and the Lawyers for Children programme.
You will provide operational leadership across legal practice management, including finance and compliance, case-flow and resource planning, project delivery, partnership and stakeholder relationships, and the monitoring and evaluation of service impact.
The Head of Legal Services will also contribute to the strategic planning and development of Clan’s services, strengthening the organisation’s role within the communities we serve and supporting Clan’s strategy to work alongside others to improve children’s access to justice and their ability to exercise their rights.
About you

We are the only charity in Scotland that provides free, independent legal representation exclusively for children and young people, which is child-centred by design. We have a fantastic opportunity for a Participation Advisor to join our team and use their passion and innovation to involve children and young people to improve CHS’s functions and uphold children’s rights.
Building on the work that has already been done, you will support an ambitious programme of participatory work involving children and people with experience of the hearing system to drive forward improvements in practices and standards.
Your role
You will lead focused, creative and structured engagement work with groups of children and young people, including our Experts by Experience group. You will create the space, audiences and opportunities to ensure the voice of children and young people with lived experience of the hearing system are elevated and influence decision making within CHS and across the Children’s Hearings System.
You will provide support to our Experts by Experience group to enable them to develop their own skills and confidence when they participate with CHS.
Critical to this role will be your ability to build connections with key partners to share learning, improve practice and bring about lasting change. You will help build a strong brand and identity to this work.
About you
You must have experience of working with children and young people to bring about lasting change. You will have a good working knowledge of the Children’s Hearings System, the legislative landscape, children’s rights, and the issues that face children and young people in the hearing system.
You will be supported to further develop your knowledge of the Children’s Hearings System and be given exposure to national forums and development opportunities that will build on your existing knowledge.
You will work closely with CHS colleagues, children and young people and partner organisations to encourage and use feedback to help bring about lasting change.
You will have knowledge of confidentiality and trauma informed practice, and how to effectively engage and encourage young people with lived experience of the hearing system. Above all you must be committed to children’s rights and have experience of being involved in programmes of work that have resulted in impactful improvements.
