Carers of West Dunbartonshire is an innovative and value-based charity, which supports those over 18 years who look after a family member or friend due to illness, disability, frailty or addiction.

The successful candidate will be part of our existing, dynamic Carer Support Team. You will be responsible for assisting carers to access a range of support which will help them to manage their caring role.

You will be a highly motivated individual who, ideally has experience in Community Care and a good understanding of the issues relating to unpaid adult carers.

Edinburgh Young Carers is seeking a suitably experienced and qualified applicant to join the service in developing and providing high quality support to young carers in Edinburgh between the ages of 5 and 25 years, focused primarily on our 5-9s service.

The post-holder will work alongside colleagues to raise awareness of young carers and their support needs, identify hidden young carers, and develop and provide support plans to ensure that young carers identified personal outcomes are being met, in accordance with the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016 and Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020.

The candidate will need to be suitably qualified and experienced in working with children and young people, with at least three years proven experience in a role including individual and group work.

Job Purpose:

• Lead and develop a team of Support Workers to provide personalised, responsive, and high-quality care
• Maintain an active practice by continuing to provide personal care and domiciliary tasks that respond to the needs of the carer and the service user that includes all age ranges, conditions, disabilities or illness.
• Enable carers to get a break from their caring responsibilities.
• Meet personal, social, recreational and emotional needs of service user. Supporting them to meet their individual goals
• Continually evaluate standards within the service, working towards meeting organisational outcomes

Main Duties and Responsibilities

First Line Management

In addition to providing direct contact with clients and maintaining the role of a Support Worker, the Senior Support Worker will provide first line management to a small team.

Duties include:

• Leading, coaching and developing the team to provide high quality, personalised care
• Developing, maintaining and reviewing service and individual’s care plans and outcomes
• Providing supervision to team members and associated duties (e.g. identifying training needs, performance management support, reviewing holiday requests, etc.)
• Supporting service co-ordination for new and existing clients and their workers
• Working closely with other Senior Support Workers to meet the needs of the service and respective teams
• Liaise with Care at Home Manager and other staff within the organisation to support the organisational goals
• Assessing and developing client care plans and reviews, ensuring information is accurate, up-to-date, and documentation and related processes are adhered to
• Provide on call assistance

Glasgow East End Community Carers is a registered charity which provides support to carers in the East End of Glasgow. The organisation has 2 areas of operation;

• The Carers Hub (an independent Carers Centre)
• Homecare Service - operates as a social enterprise.

The Carers Hub provides ongoing support to carers via a range of services, activities and support.

About Play-Sense

Our Play-Sense play group is a group for parents and their pre-school children with disabilities. The group runs weekly for 2 hours in a safe, fun environment where both parents and their children will benefit from increased communication and play, being with others in a similar situation and parents will get a break from full-on caring.

The Play-Sense group has been appreciated by parents who have told us that their children enjoy our messy play, sensory art and music sessions and benefit from our sensory room which they have access to during the play group time.

Who Comes to Play-Sense?

Parents and their pre-school children who have a range of disabilities or additional needs including several who are autism.

Our group has also previously been attended by those who are asylum seekers and from a range of different nationalities including African, Chinese, Korean and Polish.

About Family Nights

Family Night is a time when we provide the childcare and parent/carer get the chance to have a chat and a break. A light meal is provided for the kids. This group usually meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 5-6.30pm.

Who Comes to Family Nights

Parent/carers and their children of all ages who have a range of disability or additional support needs including several who are autism. Siblings are also welcome. It has become a friendly community where parents can get peer support and children can play and interact with others.

Who we are looking for

Sessional worker for

• 4 hours each Tuesday morning, £10.90/hour
• 3 hours once a month on a Thursday evening.
• Seasonal trips and activities during school holidays.

We are looking for experienced, reliable childcare workers who enjoy working with children and would like sessional work. Candidates must be committed to equality of opportunity and enjoy working with families from all backgrounds. Experience of working with children with autism and other additional support needs is helpful but not essential.
