We believe everyone deserves a great Glasgow life and that starts with the people who work here.
Glasgow Life is a charity like no other. Our vision is to improve the lives of everyone in our city. To help us
achieve that, we are looking for a Learning Assistant (Youth Worker) to join our Wellbeing, Youth and Community
Development Team to support our Youth Work Programme.
Our teams focus on making a real difference through culture and sport in Glasgow. If you’re excited by the idea of
being part of that, this could be the job for you.
What you need to know
Hours: Full-time roles: 35 hours per week, worked across 5 days out of 7. You will be required to work evenings and
weekends to meet service needs, with notice of 2 weeks provided in advance.
Part-time roles: We can consider a range of hours starting from 17.5 hours per week upwards, worked over multiple
days. Evening and weekend work will be required to meet service needs, with notice of 2 weeks provided in
advance. Patterns can be discussed and agreed with successful candidates.
Pay details: The listed salary is for a full-time role. If you’re applying for a part-time, we will calculate your
pay on a pro-rata basis. The hourly rate is £15.24 per hour.
Location: Hybrid. You will spend most of your time delivering activities within Glasgow Life venues, voluntary
organisations, and local schools. You will also spend part of your week in Glasgow Life office bases or working
from home to plan and prepare for delivery.
What you’ll do
As a Learning Assistant (Youth Worker), you’ll be an integral part of our established Youth Work Team, reporting to
the Libraries and Communities Officer. You’ll play an essential role in delivering youth work interventions to
young people aged 12-18 across the city. Youth Work is an informal education practice that supports young
people’s social, emotional and educational development. It can be adapted across a variety of settings and
typically engages with young people within their local communities, in schools or on the streets. Your work will
make a visible and lasting difference. This could be:
- Supporting our communities
- Helping people get active
- Creating cultural experiences
- Or
working behind the scenes to make it all happen
Who you are
We’re looking for someone with the right skills who brings energy to the role. If the following sounds like you,
apply today!
You’ll develop, adapt and deliver a wide range of learning experiences for groups of young people aged 12-18. You’ll
actively seek out and engage with new and existing groups of young people across the city and support the
delivery of the service’s strategic objectives.
You’ll be keen and enthusiastic, able to relate well to a number of different groups of young people and be flexible
and adaptable, able to deliver in different contexts, whether in a school-based setting, partner organisation or
on the streets. You’ll be able to plan and deliver innovative youth work sessions based on the needs of the
young people you engage with and evaluate the impact of your work.
We’re looking for:
- Relevant experience of delivering play, youthwork, creative arts (art, drama) or coaching activities in an
educational or community-based setting.
- Excellent communication skills – written and oral demonstrated
through reports, presentation or facilitation of groups.
- Ability to adapt programmes and sessions
according to the needs of different audiences.
- Experience (paid or voluntary) working with young people
aged 12-18 in schools, youth work or community-based setting.
- Knowledge of recognised youth work
principles, standards and sector best practice.
- Ability to evaluate programme delivery, reflect on
effectiveness and adjust content and methods accordingly.
When selecting candidates for interviews, managers will look for candidates who meet all the ‘essential’ criteria
listed in the Person Specification. If there are many candidates, they may also consider desirable skills. So,
include those if they apply to you.
If you still have questions about the role, please contact us at youth@glasgowlife.org.uk to arrange an informal
chat.
