About the service:
The Senior Support Workers in the Thrive Early Access Mental Health Service undertake short-term focused work with adults of all ages and from a wide range of backgrounds. They help people to identify what is important to them and the steps they can take to manage their mental health and wellbeing. The workers connect people into community services, clinical treatment options and self-management resources as appropriate.
Along with mental health nurses and other members of the multi-disciplinary teams, the Senior Support Workers staff the Open Access drop-ins that take place within the locality. They work closely with colleagues within health and social care, the wider third sector, and with community organisations across the city, ensuring that the service is accessible to and meets the needs of all sections of the community.
Key responsibilities:
- Assess the mental health and wellbeing of people who attend Open Access
- Ensure that any risks identified are escalated in line with NHS Lothian protocols
- Manage a caseload, working in conjunction with the nurses, occupational therapists and social workers in the team when needed
- Devise asset-based plans that focus on personal outcomes
- Assist people to utilise community services and self-help resources
- Facilitate Decider Skills and other psycho-educational groups
- Complete ongoing records on TRAK in line with NHS Lothian timescales
- Attend team Huddles, business meetings and locality wide Learning Labs
- Follow all operational processes and procedures
- Develop positive working relationships with statutory colleagues and CMH staff and contribute to effective team working
- Ensure all Health and Safety standards are maintained, including lone working and personal safety procedures
Essential Criteria:
- An appropriate professional qualification (at least SVQ Level 3)
- At least two years’ experience of working in the mental health field
- Experience of enabling people to identify and achieve their personal goals
- Experience of assessing risk and devising collaborative safety plans
- Experience of devising asset-based support plans
- A track record of managing own caseload and completing administrative tasks with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of theories and good practice around early intervention, asset-based approaches and person-centred working
- An awareness of support services in the city and of mental health self-help resources
- Able to work in a trauma-informed way and to apply trauma-skilled approaches
- Able to work with a high level of autonomy and to use an analytical and problem-solving approach
- Committed to continuous professional development and willing to undertake appropriate training and developmental opportunities
- A high level of competency with IT
- Able to effectively manage their own mental health and wellbeing
Successful applicants for this post will require a PVG Membership (this will be arranged by Change Mental Health before you start your role)
General Duties
- Ensure all records and client data are managed in line with NHS Lothian’s Data Management and Information Governance policies
- Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements such as the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
- To act in accordance with Safeguarding procedures
- To follow all lone working and team safety procedures
- To participate in regular supervision, appraisals, team and business meetings
- To undertake induction training and any other training appropriate to the role
- To work in accordance with the charity’s policies and the local operating procedures of Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership
- To represent and promote Change Mental Health within the Thrive Early Access Mental Health Service and at external meetings and forums as required

Thrive Edinburgh brings together a collaboration of partner organisations who work together to improve the mental health and wellbeing of people across the city, with the aim of supporting people to live well and fulfil their potential.
We are looking for an experienced Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner to join our North-West Edinburgh Thrive Welcome Team, someone with at least two years of experience in delivering mental health support. This role is part of a multidisciplinary team, including Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners, Peer Workers, Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists and Social Workers. Together we deliver a multi-disciplinary approach, so people can access support when and how they need it.
You will support the delivery of regular Thrive Drop Ins in North-West Edinburgh. You will also deliver short-term individual support, improving people’s mental health and wellbeing, supporting self-management and community connections through the person-centred support you offer.

The role
The successful candidate will be joining a small, fast paced and highly flexible HR team. No two days will be the same and, as HR Assistant you will be responsible for supporting the organisation on the full recruitment onboarding process, providing accurate and timely reports and ensuring accurate payroll information on a monthly basis, through our HR platform, iTrent. Alongside supporting employees, you will also lead on maintaining our volunteer checks across the charity. This is a highly collaborative role and you’ll be expected to proactively work with managers and employees to provide support on a range of queries both through the management of the HR mailbox, and by phone which will include advice on policies and procedures. The role will have development opportunities to work on a range of HR projects and focus areas.
The person
If you enjoy working in a generalist HR role, have a keen eye for detail and are always looking for ways to improve processes then this could be the right role for you. The successful candidate will adopt a customer service approach to HR and have experience working in a previous HR role with evidence of recruitment, HR systems and reporting. We’re looking for candidates who are used to a busy workload and are comfortable working independently. Flexibility in approach and to competing priorities is essential.

A day in the life of a Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioner…
A practitioner’s job is challenging but very rewarding, as you don’t only have the privilege to be part of and witness the development and recovery of the residents in your care but also the development of the team and individual workers you supervise.
Practitioners job is to ensure that the team are supporting the residents following the values and ethos of the organisation. As well as ensure that robust care plans are implemented and followed.
Practitioners train new workers on medication support according to the individual plan while following policy guidelines. Practitioners also provide support and supervision in line with organisational policy to several of the workers and will receive the relevant training and qualification required by the SSSC and Care Inspectorate.
Practitioners’ complete audits of the resident’s support plans to ensure that the quality of the support plans meet the standards required by the organisation.
As a practitioner in a service where no day is the same, it is important to be able to prioritise and delegate tasks, but it is also equally as important to make the environment both positive and welcoming for residents and the team.
