What you’ll do

Children and young people deserve to grow up in environments that are safe and equal, and that equip them with the skills, knowledge and attitudes to have healthy, respectful relationships. This role works to influence both the policy that sets the standards for safety and equality in young people’s environments (from schools to youth work and the home) and the practice that delivers it.

This is a wide field but is given focus by our organisational strategy, which currently focuses on the behaviour of men and boys, the need to be inclusive of marginalised voices, and feminist leadership.

The role interacts closely with the Under Pressure Support Officer, which co-ordinates our training for professionals who work with young people, and our Policy Officer, as well as the wider Zero Tolerance team.

What we need

The successful candidate will have previous experience in a similar role, in a paid or voluntary capacity, with knowledge and understanding of violence against women and gender equality. You’ll be a skilled communicator with the ability to present complex ideas to a variety of audiences including senior politicians, stakeholders and partners.

You will also have:

• A shared understanding of our vision, values, aims and positions
• Understanding of the Scottish political landscape
• The ability to understand complex policy issues, articulate clear and focused responses, and make judgements based on evidence
• Organisational skills, managing both reactive and planned work
• Proven experience of building networks

What do we offer?

• Competitive salary with annual pay progression. We operate a grading structure based on five salary grades. New employees start on point 1 of each salary grade and receive annual increments until the top of the grade is reached. This role is Grade 3, pro rata of £33,537.08 - £ 37,018.66.
• Staff pension scheme (6% employers’ contribution).
• 28 days annual leave plus 10 public holidays (pro-rata) and a flexible working hours policy.

What you’ll do

You will lead work to gather and interpret evidence that informs Scotland’s understanding of primary prevention, ensuring that the voices and experiences of marginalised groups shape national conversations and decision-making. This role strengthens our commitment to intersectional and participatory approaches by developing research that reflects the realities of those most affected by men’s violence against women and girls. You will support colleagues across the organisation to embed this learning into our policy, engagement and influencing work, helping to ensure that every part of Zero Tolerance’s activity is grounded in inclusive, meaningful evidence.

What we need

The successful candidate will have experience in a research role, in a paid or voluntary capacity, with knowledge and understanding of violence against women, gender equality and intersectional approaches. You’ll be confident using a range of research methods and able to communicate complex ideas clearly and accessibly.

You will also have:

• Experience using qualitative and quantitative research methods, including feminist, participatory and intersectional approaches
• Ability to analyse research data, identify gaps and produce clear, accessible outputs for different audiences
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, managing both reactive and planned work
• Experience building effective relationships and working collaboratively, including with external contractors
• A diplomatic, self-motivated and values-led approach, with willingness to adapt to the needs of a small charity

An experienced adviser is required to improve the financial circumstances of the families supported by Hawthorn Children and Family Centre and Midlothian’s Family Wellbeing Service to improve the outcomes for the children.

The project will work with and receive referrals from Hawthorn Children and Family Centre and the Family Wellbeing Service team members. The worker will link with mental health projects, family support and Penicuik CAB’s specialist debt worker to develop a wraparound service to increase household income and improve the quality of life for the family.

Working closely with other project workers the post holder will provide awareness raising sessions with the Hawthorn Centre staff, Family Wellbeing team members and any other agencies, as appropriate.

Based at the Penicuik CAB, Hawthorn Children and Family Centre and working at any centres deemed appropriate, the worker will provide help and assistance with checking benefit entitlement, completing benefit applications and challenging benefit decisions. The work will also include income maximisation, budgeting advice, utilities and some assistance with debt issues (including housing debt).

A working knowledge and understanding of welfare benefits and good interpersonal skills are essential. The post holder will be responsible for developing and delivering the service to meet the needs of the families.

You will be working with the organisers across Scotland to build and support branches of Living Rent in Dundee.

Living Rent is hiring a full-time community organiser to support members organise in their neighbourhoods to challenge the issues they face and to fight for better housing and a system that works for the common good. The role entails outreach (stalls, door knocking), recruiting members, and supporting members to organise meetings, take responsibilities locally, build democratic neighbourhood branches and take part in city-wide and national structures.

This post will specifically focus on targeting areas that are vulnerable to flooding, supporting people in those areas to organise around issues that they care about and learn about climate change and how to ensure that our homes and neighbourhoods are more prepared for its impacts.

The organiser will support members to research their issues, select relevant campaigns, define achievable wins , organise direct actions and support members in negotiations with relevant targets including private/ social landlords, private companies, the local municipality. You will aim to recruit members and support them to build power across Scotland.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about building real people power and excited about the chance to work for a young, diverse and member-run organisation. Experience in recruitment, training delivery, community education or campaigns is welcome; however enthusiasm, willingness to learn and commitment to social justice are more important than previous experience as training will be provided. This role may suit someone with experience in sales, street fundraising or other customer/public facing work, who wishes to move into organising.

This post is accountable to Living Rent’s democratic structures and line managed by Living Rent’s Wider Scotland Head Organiser. Living Rent staff members primarily work Monday - Friday between 11am and 7pm, though the work will sometimes need to be done at other times of day, along with some weekends. Some unsocial hours are inevitable and flexibility is vital.
