Role
Veterans Chaplaincy Scotland (VCS) was formed as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) in February 2023 (SC052358) but had operated for a number of years under the Workplace Chaplaincy Charity (which is now discontinued).
VCS exists to promote, develop and manage the pastoral and spiritual support to military veterans and their families across Scotland, and to train, support and develop both lay and ordained people to engage in chaplaincy through Veterans Chaplaincy Scotland.
VCS is developing its reach across Scotland and employs a small number of staff and retains volunteer Chaplains to deliver its core services across Scotland. It is at a crucial stage of its development and the Board of Trustees are seeking to appoint a National Director for the Charity who will provide high-level leadership to help shape and strengthen the future of chaplaincy provision. The individual will drive vision, influence, and long-term planning, ensuring the charity is well-positioned to support its chaplains and those they serve. This is a non-operational role for provision of chaplaincy, but the postholder will complement the day-to-day leadership provided by the Head of Chaplaincy Operations.
The initial appointment will be Part Time for around 14 hours per week but rising to Full Time of 36 hours per week depending on funding being generated. The closing date for applications is Friday 15th August 2025, and it is planned that interviews will take place in September. The appointment is subject to a four-month probationary period and to suitable references and pre-employment checks. We envisage the role starting as soon as possible once a suitable candidate is recruited.

It is a genuine occupational requirement that the National Director is an active member of a Christian denomination and have a personal Christian faith (although Chaplaincy support is given to veterans of any faith and none)

Chair
Working closely with the Director and fellow Trustees, the Chair will utilise their skills and experience to lead the Board on matters of governance, ensuring that all activities align with HDS’s charitable aims, publicly stated objectives values and constitution, and that there is appropriate risk management in place (financial and other).
The ideal candidate will have a substantive employment background in one or more of the following areas:
- Psychotherapy and/or counselling
- Financial management and accounting
- Business management
- Governance
- Management within the public or charity sector
Treasurer
The ideal candidate will have substantive employment background in financial management and accounting to fulfil the role of Treasurer of the Board. The postholder will work closely with our Director and provide financial oversight to the management and administration of HDS activities.
In addition to the above, we are looking for someone who has substantive experience in one or more of:
- Business management
- Governance
- Management within the public or charity sector
Role of all Trustees
Our volunteer Trustees contribute significantly to our overall charitable objectives and we value their knowledge and experience. Trustees dedicate time to attend Board meetings (usually six meetings per year). While an in-depth understanding of the theories informing the psychotherapeutic training or work of the organisation is not required, our Trustees should have a grounded belief in the value of high-quality psychotherapy and counselling in effecting change in people's lives.
About HDS
Human Development Scotland (HDS) is a charity that provides high-quality psychodynamic training and therapeutic services, aiming to make psychodynamic counselling and therapy, and the theories that inform them, more accessible across Scotland. Our office is based in Glasgow city centre which includes a Training Suite for our part-time students to receive their teaching, and counselling rooms where some of our therapeutic services operate from.

Sikh Sanjog, the charity committed to improving lives of ethnic minority women in Scotland, is seeking a Director of Operations. You will be passionate about leading Sikh Sanjog into a new phase and seamlessly taking over the reins from our founder Trishna Singh OBE, who has tirelessly led the organisation since its inception 35 years ago.
The successful candidate will lead and direct all our community supportive services ensuring that day-to-day management across the organisation is effectively delivered; that all service activities are effectively integrated and delivered in line with the Board of Trustees’ strategy, operational plans and values of Sikh Sanjog.
Essential knowledge and experience
- Degree or equivalent in community development, health or social care
- Significant experience of working at management level in the community development and social care field
- Knowledge and understanding of all current health and social care legislation
- Knowledge and understanding of the regulatory framework and compliance requirements in human rights, equalities, and care/protection of children and young people
- Experience of managing the delivery of support to people with complex needs, and direct engagement with people and families to inform how support is delivered
- In-depth understanding of issues facing diverse minority ethnic communities living in the UK, with reference to Scotland and knowledge of Sikh culture and communities
- Credibility with local and national government agencies supporting social services within the third sector
- Track record of effective people management skills
- Skilled in operational management including management of key performance metrics and working with financial reports
- Experience of developing the business case for capital spend and fundraising on behalf of the organisation

- Track record of engaging, motivating and leading staff and colleagues to deliver organisational goals
