About the role

As our Health & Safety Manager, you will handle the development, implementation, and ongoing management of our Health & Safety systems. You will act as the organisation’s competent person, providing expert advice and guidance, ensuring compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and related legislation.

You will monitor changes in legislation and industry best practices to drive continuous improvement. This includes regularly reviewing and updating Health & Safety policies, procedures, and risk assessments. You will offer practical, accessible advice to colleagues and support them in embedding safe working practices into their day-to-day activities.

In addition, you will develop and deliver mandatory training programmes, as well as tailored sessions to meet emerging needs. You will manage all incident reporting processes, including RIDDOR notifications to the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), and ensure thorough follow-up. You will also produce regular reports and briefings for senior leadership and Trustees to keep them informed of key issues, trends, and compliance levels.

This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary on behalf of Sustrans.

About you

You should hold a NEBOSH qualification or another recognised Health & Safety certification, with proven experience in managing a system for Health & Safety within an organisation. A strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and supporting regulations is essential, along with specific knowledge of Health & Safety considerations within the construction sector.

You will be confident in managing Health & Safety incidents, responding calmly and effectively to ensure appropriate actions are taken, and escalating to senior colleagues when necessary. Strong decision-making skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Excellent analytical and report writing abilities are required, as well as the confidence to present information clearly and effectively to a range of audiences, both in person and virtually.

The Opportunity

With the increased awareness of businesses and the public in the importance of looking after nature and mitigating against climate change, ELGT is seeking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Greenspace & Corporates Officer to develop and deliver environmental projects as part of the ELGT programme of activities.

The Greenspace & Corporates Officer will develop a programme of conservation activities that will enable businesses to participate in and will also promote and support the ELGT Tree Time initiative across the region. The role will include the delivery of activities and encourage people and organisations to support ELGT through financial contributions.

We are looking for a suitably experienced and enthusiastic initiative-taker, with an excellent track record of delivering initiatives using a person-to-person approach and experienced in delivering environmental activities.

JOB PURPOSE

The role of Community Development Officer will be to contribute towards the delivery of the Highlands & Islands Climate Hub CIC successfully for the Scottish Government. The role will support communities throughout the region to collaborate, network and assist community groups in design, development and delivery of community led climate action projects. Signposting, networking and taking a proactive approach to join people and communities together.

LOCATION

The role will support communities in the Highland Local Authority area. You may be based anywhere in Highland but must reside within the Highland Council local authority ward area. Home/remote working with travel throughout the region required.

The Hub holds regular staff meetups which may be at our Inverness or Thurso office, and there would be a further expectation to attend national Hub Gatherings.

JOB PURPOSE

The Training Officer will design, coordinate, and deliver training that strengthens the capacity of communities and community organisations to engage in climate action. This role will identify learning needs, develop relevant training resources, and facilitate learning opportunities that support community groups at all stages of their climate journey; from initial awareness through to project delivery and evaluation.

As a key member of the Business Development workstream, the Training Officer will also identify opportunities to deliver training, workshops, and resources that can generate earned income. This will contribute to the Hub’s strategic goal of diversifying from core grant income and supporting long-term financial sustainability.

The role will support communities across the Highlands and Northern Isles of Orkney and Shetland. You therefore must reside within the Highland, Shetland or Orkney Local Authority areas. Homeworking is the norm, however, if you do reside within easy travelling distance of either our Inverness or Thurso office, 1/2 days office-based work would be required.
