We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and motivated person to join our team. Airdrie CAB works in partnership with Covey Befriending and we are looking for an individual to provide Financial advice/support to clients engaging with Covey.

The successful applicant will also provide holistic support to clients on a variety of issues including but not limited to benefits, debt, housing, employment, energy and relationship. Full training will be provided.

The Covey mission is to support children, young people and families to become more resilient, safe and better equipped to reach their full potential. They do this through providing one to one and group-based befriending, mentoring and family support across Lanarkshire. Core Duties

• Provide advice/support to clients on issues affecting their financial wellbeing e.g. benefits, income maximisation, debt, employment and relationship.
• Produce reports and plans for the purposes of monitoring and reviewing the objectives of the service.

This exciting project focuses on energy advice provision in Airdrie. We are looking to recruit an adviser to deliver Energy Advice in our community via face to face and telephone appointments. Full training will be provided to the successful applicant to allow you to reach your full potential.

Our project aims to support vulnerable energy consumers, within one of Scotland’s most deprived areas, to tackle the on-going impact of surging energy bills, reduce fuel poverty and help to manage energy debt. Who we are

East Lothian Advice Consortium Ltd (ELAC) is a company limited by guarantee without share capital which has contracted with East Lothian Council (ELC) for the provision of advice services in East Lothian. These advice services are delivered by way of sub-contracts between ELAC and Haddington Citizens Advice Bureau (HCAB) and Musselburgh Citizens Advice Bureau (MCAB). They are both independent charities that provide free, impartial, and confidential information and advice services in East Lothian. We offer support on issues ranging from debt, benefits, and welfare rights to consumer rights, finances, and budgeting support.

Our services are available to everyone in our local communities. We aim to make them as accessible as possible by promoting equality and diversity and by challenging discrimination.

Who are we looking for?

We currently have a small but strong Board of Directors with diverse professional expertise. We are seeking a new Chair who can lead ELAC through a period of new contract delivery and support the Bureaux with quarterly meetings with ELC, ensuring we provide the most relevant and accessible advice services possible in terms of the contract.

The role offers the opportunity to a make a central and strategic contribution to supporting the people of East Lothian with a range of pressing advice issues. Our work at HCAB and MCAB also makes a fundamental contribution to the campaigns and advocacy work of Citizens Advice Scotland on behalf of the full network of CABs.

To support these outcomes, we plan for a minimum 3-month induction period during which the successful candidate will shadow the current Chair and get to know our organisation in detail as a Director. Once fully in post as Chair from August 2025, you will be further supported by our experienced members.

We welcome applications from candidates with experience of organisational leadership who feel passionate about our work, regardless of professional background. We are looking for candidates with a sound understanding of (third sector) governance, financial acumen, and experience contributing to or leading boards.

The Chair will:

• be independent of any of the Providers
• provide leadership and ensure the ELAC Board monitors and delivers the Advice Services Contract on behalf of East Lothian Council.
• effectively chair ELAC meetings with the power of a casting vote where allowed by the Articles of the Company.
• act as the key representative and liaison for ELAC and ensure an effective relationship is maintained between the ELAC Board, the Providers and the Council.
• work with ELAC and the Delivery Management Team to organise quarterly ELAC meetings, an AGM and any additional meetings, training or strategic planning events as required by ELAC.
• represent the ELAC Board at meetings or events as required/available.
• participate and/or lead in dispute resolution where issues or disputes arise between any of the parties

Time committment

The expected commitment for the Chair is approximately 30 hours per quarter, incorporating flexibility to work around a full-time working schedule. Board and ELC meetings are each held 4 times a year, normally two weeks apart.

Angus Citizens Advice Bureau (SCIO) was formed in 1985 to provide a holistic advice service to the residents of Angus. We provide free, independent, impartial, confidential advice and information to ensure people understand their rights and responsibilities. We are a member of Citizens Advice Scotland. The bureau supports clients with a wide range of general enquiries whilst project staff provide specialist support around benefits, debt, energy and NHS concerns and complaints.

We’re looking to appoint a Finance Director to join our Board of Trustees. The Finance Director ensures that financial control systems, reports and decisions are robust, accurate and comply with legal and regulatory requirements. The Finance Director is an officer of the Board and cannot be a paid employee of the CAB. Responsibility for day-to-day financial management is delegated to the Chief Officer with designated responsibility for financial duties.

The duties and responsibilities of the Finance Director include:

1. Ensuring Board members are aware of their financial responsibilities with sufficient understanding of the CAB’s financial systems, policies and reports to enable effective Board decision-making
2. Presenting financial information and reports to Board meetings, General Meetings, strategic review and planning exercises or other meetings as needed
3. Guiding and advising the Board in their consideration of budgets, accounts, financial statements, financial procedures and other financial issues, including the financial implications of the strategic and project plans.
4. Chairing meetings of the financial subgroup and participating in finance-related meetings (e.g. with funders, financial institutions, auditors, etc.)
5. Having a good understanding of bureau financial systems, policies and controls, ensuring these are robust and appropriate for safeguarding CAB resources.
6. Liaising with the Chief Officer and Chair on tasks including drafting budgets, monitoring income and expenditure, reporting to the Board and other stakeholders and updating financial systems and policies.
7. Ensuring that accounts are prepared at year-end and participating actively in the annual audit or external examination of accounts process.
8. Ensuring adherence to SORP 2015 and other legal and regulatory requirements.
9. Making sure annual accounts are submitted to the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR), Companies House and funders within required deadlines.
10. Recommending to the Board when external financial advice is required.

We ask our Trustees to commit to around 50 hours per year as a minimum, broken up into attending quarterly Board meetings, attending our AGM, participating in training/development and involvement in sub-committees and working groups. We are keen to continue a hybrid model of governance, combining face-to-face meetings with use of e-mail and Teams for collaboration and discussion. In return, you will be helping shape and govern a service that is committed to supporting the local community.
