We are seeking a Communications Assistant (temporary maternity cover) to support and deliver the creation of
inspiring communications and events to maximise Scottish Families’ reach and engagement across Scotland.
This post will work alongside our Communications Development Officer and assist with our content creation, social
media presence, storytelling efforts, campaigning, media relations, and support our whole team with their
communication needs. This role is fun and rewarding with a broad range of projects to get involved in. You will
create a place for family members to share their experiences, build and maintain our online community, promote
our events and encourage donations, and assist with making sure we are reaching more families across Scotland
through advertising, campaigning and collaborations.
The post is located at Robertson House, 152 Bath Street, Glasgow G2 4TB, with staff currently working between home
and office. It is expected that the post holder will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends. This
post will be part of Scottish Families’ staff team and be supervised by the Communications Development
Officer.
The post-holder will be responsible for maintaining our social media channels, including creating content, finding
opportunities, and engaging with family members, supporters and partners; actively monitoring our media profile;
supporting with storytelling efforts including sourcing leads, interviewing family members, copywriting stories,
etc. to champion family voices; supporting our staff with internal communications; supporting our campaigning
efforts including content creation, partnership working, advertising, and attending regular meetings with
partners; and supporting our staff with their communication requests.
We are seeking applicants who are educated to HNC level, vocational qualification (level 4) or a relevant
professional qualification, with a proven record of working across social media channels (specifically Facebook,
Instagram and LinkedIn); creating content for online purposes such as graphics, films and audio; collaborating
with partners on projects and campaigns; and delivering campaigns with set targets and audiences. Applicants
should have knowledge of new communication developments and trends, and of how to boost engagement with
supporters on social media. Candidates should be able to work as a supportive team member, contributing ideas
and assisting colleagues; be a competent user of social media channels and content creation software such as
Canva; be skilled in storytelling and collecting stories from supporters; and be able to create video content
such as Instagram Reels and TikToks using phones and relevant software, with excellent copywriting skills.
