Grangemouth Community Sports Trust is looking to appoint up to five Trustees to join the Board.

Who are we?

Grangemouth Community Sports Trust is a new charity (a SCIO) set up to manage Grangemouth Stadium for community benefit.

Grangemouth Stadium is central Scotland’s premier athletics training and competition facility and hosts a large number of regional, national and international events, squad training days and coaching conferences. It has been the home of many Olympic and Commonwealth squad teams for training and boasts the relocated Hampden track from the 2014 Commonwealth Games. It is home to Falkirk Victoria Harriers and Forth Valley Flyers and is of huge importance to the local community. The Trust seeks to widen and diversify the use of the facilities to secure its future and create a health and wellbeing hub for the local community.

Who are we looking for?

Previous board experience is not necessary but the ability to provide oversight, scrutiny and direction is.

We are seeking people with skills or experience in at least one of the following areas:

• Human Resources
• Health and Safety compliance
• Information Technology
• Legal (in particular, charity law)
• Marketing
• Sports Facility Management

This is a voluntary position with meetings conducted both in person and online.

Harmeny Education Trust is a charitable organisation providing therapeutic care and education to children who have experienced early years trauma through abuse, neglect and family disruption, referred from all over Scotland. We currently work with children and young people aged 5-18, both on a day and all-year-round residential basis.

Our core service comprises:

• An education service, which includes an outdoor learning team.

• A care service, with five residential cottages.

• Support services, made up of finance, estates, catering and domestic, fundraising, IT, HR, learning and development, and admin teams.

Children who come to Harmeny often have severe attachment disorders, have suffered some form of early years trauma leading to high levels of anxiety and difficulty in managing their behaviour, as well as a range of complex needs. Through highly therapeutic care and education programmes, we help children to gain the skills and resilience to lead healthy and happy adult lives.

We are registered with the Scottish Social Services Council, General Teaching Council for Scotland, Care Inspectorate, Education Scotland, and The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).

Harmeny is situated in a beautiful 35-acre woodland estate, which includes a community garden, orchard, wildlife habitats, children’s play areas and a mountain bike track. Harmeny is located in Balerno on the outskirts of Edinburgh, at the foot of the Pentland Hills; we are easily accessible by bus and there is ample parking.

We are seeking new Trustees to join the organisation and oversee its governance, and we are particularly keen to find candidates with knowledge and experience in any of the following:

• social work/ residential care;

• digital transformation;

• children and families research;

• therapeutic work with children and young people;

• experience of care growing up directly or indirectly; or

• health, ideally in the area of mental health.

Trustees are expected to prepare for and attend four Board meetings per year. Meetings are ideally in-person, albeit we can accommodate remote attendance as required. Additional meetings may be held for urgent matters that do not fit with the set calendar of meetings.

Trustees are also expected to be involved in other matters, for example to join a sub-committee relevant to their skill set or working group, take part in a recruitment panel, attend Harmeny events or support Harmeny’s work externally. Sub-committees meet in advance of the main meetings for a shorter duration, and are generally conducted virtually.

North Berwick Trust is a community-focused charity dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents of North Berwick. Led by a Board of charity Trustees with the support of two part-time employees, the Trust works in partnership with others to address community needs and ensure long-term benefits for the town through the North Berwick Forever Fund.

The Trust has significant financial assets which allows it to distribute funding through its grant-giving programme to individuals and organisations that promote recreation, culture, sport, education, lifelong learning, and the conservation of North Berwick’s historic and natural environment. Background to the role of Chair

Sir David Tweedie, the current Chair of North Berwick Trust, will step down from his role in the summer after leading the Trust through a very successful period. The Trust now seeks an inspiring and committed successor to lead the Trust through its next phase.

Whilst the Trust manages sizable assets, it remains a small organisation that is very much led by the Chair and Board of charity Trustees who are expected to balance both strategic leadership responsibilities and occasional involvement in day-to-day operations.

In addition to leading the Board of charity Trustees, the role demands sound judgment in managing the various governance issues that may arise between meetings. A key responsibility will be overseeing the Trust’s significant financial investments, ensuring that funds are effectively managed to support both current and future community needs. The position is initially for a three-year tenure.

The Trust is looking for the next Chair to have a close connection to North Berwick, whether through living or working in the area. They will have an understanding of local needs and priorities and have an appreciation of how the Trust can add value to support local causes.

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader, capable of providing clear direction and support to the Board and Trust staff, ensuring that the Trust’s long-term vision is delivered. Acting as the Trust’s ambassador, they will be the external face of the charity attending events, community meetings and social functions ensuring that the good name of the Trust is always promoted.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced chair and/or leader that possesses good intellect and the ability to get on well with people. They will have a decisive but calm and empathetic style demonstrating excellent communication and organisations skills.

About Us

Neilston Windfarm Legacy SCIO (NWL) is a small independent local charity which awards grants from a Legacy fund for sustainable community projects which aim to improve the lives of Neilston residents and enhance the village environment. It was founded in 2018 by Neilston Development Trust (NDT) from the sizeable profits arising from the sale of their share in a local community wind farm.

NWL is run by a small voluntary Board of Trustees, comprising a maximum of six. However, the Board uses a firm of independent financial advisers with specialist knowledge of the charity sector to manage and invest the Legacy funds on its behalf. The Board also engages independent accountancy and legal services, as and when required. No fund raising activities are undertaken.

Trustee Vacancies

Our Trustees serve for a three year term and may serve for a maximum of two terms consecutively, after which the constitution requires them to step down. We are always keen to hear from anyone who might be interested in joining the NWL Board and we particularly wish to encourage general enquiries from Neilston residents.

Current Vacancy

The Trustee fulfilling the role of Treasurer is due to step down from the Board this year, so we need to find a successor. This is a voluntary position, as Trustees cannot receive payment for their services to the charity. However it is a role that someone keen to support the community of Neilston should find very interesting and rewarding.

The Board is seeking someone with a professional background in accounting or finance to report on the financial position of the charity and to provide advice and support to the Trustees. You will participate in the evaluation of grant applications from the community and guide the Board on its strategic financial planning. This post may particularly suit someone who is approaching retirement, or else anyone who is mid-career but who is also able to commit some time to voluntary work.
