MND Scotland is the only charity in Scotland dedicated to supporting people with MND, their families, and friends.

We are looking for an experienced, passionate and dynamic Finance & Governance Lead to join our Operations function.

Reporting to the Director of Operations as Finance & Operations Lead you will be an experienced financial professional able to provide guidance and support, building partnerships and maintaining strong relationships with the Executive Leadership & Senior Management Teams (EMT & SMT). Engaging with colleagues across the organisation, you will support budget holders to help develop their annual budgets as well as analyse and interpret financial performance to guarantee good governance is maintained.

The successful candidate will ensure that the financial management is done in adherence with all statutory and regulatory requirements, whilst providing financial clarity to inform decision making and action.

The Organisation

Engender is Scotland’s leading intersectional feminist policy and advocacy organisation. We work to dismantle gender inequality and to secure equal access to power, safety, resources and rights for all women.

The Role

This role will lead on the development and delivery of Engender’s Equal Representation project. The post-holder will identify opportunities to influence policy and practice and advocate for changes within political parties, democratic institutions and wider culture that will enable greater representation and participation of women in all their diversity. The role will support the realisation of Engender’s strategic aims and the post-holder will work closely with Engender colleagues to support the organisations wider work.

The Candidate

The role requires knowledge of Scotland's political landscape and how political parties function coupled with an ability to build and maintain effective partnerships and stakeholder relationships. We value strategic thinking and the ability to provide vision and direction for initiatives.

An understanding of intersectional feminism and a strong commitment to promoting equality are essential.

The successful candidate should have experience of delivering training to a range of audiences.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, as is the ability to work collaboratively within a team while also managing independent tasks and multiple priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supporting the delivery of Engender’s strategy for equal representation in collaboration with wider team
• Monitoring developments in women’s equal representation in Scotland
• Identifying and acting on opportunities to influence policy, practice and culture to achieve equal representation and advocating for changes that will have a positive impact on women’s representation and participation in politics
• Identifying and acting on opportunities for campaigning on specific issues or policy areas relating to Equal Representation
• Maintaining strong relationships with key figures across the political sphere including within political parties, local government, Scottish Parliament, Scottish Government
• Working collaboratively on equal representation with partners across the women’s & equalities sector in Scotland and UK
• Coordinating partnership projects to deliver shared goals (including the Equal Representation Coalition)
• Representing Engender in working groups, projects, at events and other engagements
• Supporting and contributing to the wider work of Engender
• Tracking project outcomes and preparing reports for funders

Required Skills and Experience

• A sound understanding of how political parties function;
• Experience of delivering training;
• A sound understanding of intersectionality and how women experience multiple discriminations;
• Experience of developing effective partnerships;
• Clear writing style, and ability to communicate complex issues simply;
• Excellent inter-personal and communication skills;
• Verbal communication skills, including delivering presentations;
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads and meet targets;

This is a full-time position of 35 hours per week (Engender is currently trialling a 4-day working week. During the trial working hours will be reduced to 30 per week with no impact on salary. The outcome of the trial will determine whether Engender adopts this approach in the longer term.) This is a temporary post for 12 months and is not expected to be continued.

This post will lead the day-to-day operational delivery of Scottish Families national Helpline and ‘Click & Deliver’ take-home Naloxone service, along with supporting the delivery of our national Bereavement Support service. The role also involves partner/referral pathway development across Scotland to promote family support and harm reduction for anyone affected by someone else’s alcohol or drug use.

The post will be based at Robertson House, Glasgow – Scottish Families’ national office. (Note that staff are currently working between home and office). This is a national post which includes some travel across Scotland. Due to the nature of this post, access to a car is essential. Hours worked will be in line with service delivery requirements, including evenings and occasional weekends when required.

The post will be part of the Scottish Families’ staff team and be supervised by the Senior National Family Support Practitioner. The post line manages and is supported by Helpline Support Workers (currently two posts, 2.0 FTE) and Helpline Volunteers.

The post-holder will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operational delivery of the Helpline, which is a single access point for information, signposting and listening support, and where appropriate a referral can be facilitated to Scottish Families local and national support services and to external partner family support services. The helpline encompasses multi-channel access including responding to inbound calls, emails, webchats, online website portal requests and providing outbound calls when callbacks requested. The role is responsible for fulfilling Click and Deliver naloxone requests, naloxone reporting, delivering overdose awareness and naloxone training, and maintaining and sharing knowledge about emerging drug trends and harm reduction. The post also includes supporting the delivery of our national Bereavement Support Service, which provides listening support and information to anyone aged 16+ who lost someone through a drug-related or alcohol-related bereavement. The service also facilitates access to accredited counsellors across Scotland who provide a programme of bereavement counselling. Finally, the role involves developing and maintaining partner/referral pathways across Scotland.

We are seeking applicants who are educated to degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent professional qualification/ experience; with experience of providing listening support via telephone, webchat and online chat methods, and providing support in a health and social care, mental health, substance use or trauma support service/ organisation. Candidates should have experience of line management and team support, whilst experience of naloxone ‘train the trainer’ training is an advantage. Applicants should have knowledge of issues for families affected by substance use and bereavement, as well as drug and alcohol awareness. It is helpful to have knowledge of emerging substance use trends and harm reduction. We are seeking an excellent listener with strong organisational skills and the ability to support individuals from diverse demographics.

The post-holder will play a key role in ensuring the management, development and smooth operation of Barrowfield Community Hub, MUGA and play park. Working closely with colleagues and external partners the Community Hub Coordinator will ensure that the Community Hub is a vibrant, well managed facility, with a wide range of activities, groups and events for the benefit of local people, anchor tenants and those booking community spaces

You should:

• Have experience of managing a Community Hub and ensure the effective day to day operation for the benefit of the community, anchor tenants, external organisations and other users of the building

• Ensure effective maintenance of the building, grounds and play areas- including repairs and supervising contactors and others regarding work in the building

• Have good literacy and numeracy skills with the ability to collate and analyse information, maintain written records and write reports
