The role of Treasurer is voluntary, and one that will be rewarding, interesting and varied for anyone keen to support the wider third sector in the local community and benefit the Scottish Borders and its residents.

Currently, the Board of Trustees meet six times a year, normally for no more than two hours, during working hours. There is also an AGM once a year.

The Treasurer is not responsible for the accounts administration - the role is one of review and reporting on the accounts, working with the CEO and others to provide advice and a thorough understanding of the financial position of the organisation to the Board of Trustees and ensuring the security of the charity long term.

The Board is seeking a professional in the area of finance, business or accounting who would have the skills to help report on the financial position of the charity and provide valuable advice in terms of risk, business planning and enterprise developments going forward.

The role of trustee

As a trustee, you will play a key role in supporting our mission and ensuring good governance. You will work closely with the Chair, fellow trustees, and the senior leadership team to provide strategic oversight and contribute to the success of our ambitious ‘Step It Up’ strategy.

Working closely with the Board of Trustees, the Chief Executive, and the senior management team, you will help develop and implement strategies to secure funding from a variety of sources, including grants, donations, corporate partnerships, and community fundraising.

Key responsibilities:

• Provide strategic input and oversight to support Paths for All’s fundraising and income generation initiatives.
• Work with fellow trustees and the senior leadership team to uphold the charity’s values and mission.
• Support the development and implementation of a sustainable fundraising strategy to meet the charity’s financial goals.
• Advocate for Paths for All, building partnerships and raising the charity’s profile within relevant networks.
• Leverage your networks and connections to identify new funding opportunities and build relationships with potential donors, partners, and sponsors.
• Work with the Board and senior leadership team to ensure effective governance and compliance with fundraising regulations.
• Monitor and evaluate fundraising activities, ensuring they align with the charity’s mission and values.
• Act as an ambassador for Paths for All, promoting our work and mission to a wider audience.

Key skills and experience:

• Experience in fundraising, income generation, or business development, ideally in the third sector.
• Strong understanding of fundraising principles, including grant applications, corporate partnerships, and donor engagement.
• Passion for promoting physical activity and improving public health through walking.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to contribute to the long-term vision and goals of the charity.
• Excellent networking and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
• An understanding of charity governance and the third sector.

Time commitment

Board meetings take place quarterly in Stirling and last around three hours, including lunch. Additional committee meetings are held online as required. Trustees typically commit 1-2 days per quarter, including meetings, strategy sessions, and occasional events.

Key skills and experience:

• Professional qualification in accountancy (ACA, ACCA, CIMA,CA, member of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland)or extensive financial management experience.
• Passion for promoting physical activity and improving public health through walking.
• Strategic leadership skills with experience supporting charities or non-profits.
• Strong networking and relationship-building abilities.
• An understanding of charity governance and the third sector.

The Scottish Government is promoting social prescribing as a way of reducing or mitigating health inequalities. Social prescribing links people attending GP or other primary care services with local, often non-clinical, community resources.

Clackmannanshire and Stirling Health and Social Care Partnership (CSHSCP) has a Strategic Commissioning Plan that focuses on prevention and early intervention and reducing social isolation and loneliness. Investment in the Community Link Worker (CLW) programme in the Partnership area is aligned to the strategic planning, and we are now seeking a new Community Link Worker to join the team in Clackmannanshire.

The Community Link Worker will be fully integrated in day-to-day work of the practice staff to inform and provide community connections to service users; will be supported by the CTSI/ SVE; and will work with local volunteer Community Health Champions.

The Community Links Workers will help people to access the wide range of local support provided by Third Sector organisations, helping them to reconnect and understand how they can improve and sustain their own health and wellbeing.
