Role Purpose
The Calanais Visitor Centre is undergoing an ambitious £10.1 million redevelopment and will reopen in early 2026 as a world-class, 5-star visitor attraction and a thriving community hub. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an experienced and visionary heritage leader to shape the future of one of Scotland’s most iconic sites. As the Heritage Manager, you will have the chance to lead and deliver transformational heritage and engagement programmes that will leave a lasting impact on both the site and the community.
Calanais 2025 is a major project that will see the Visitor Centre comprehensively transformed, and each visitor’s experience significantly enhanced. This transformational investment in the future of the Calanais Standing Stones and Visitor Centre has created the opportunity for a dedicated and forward-thinking Heritage Manager to join the team and provides the opportunity to be part of a pivotal moment in the story of the Stones. From structural changes to the fabric of the existing buildings to an exciting new contemporary exhibition space exploring the landscape, people and stones that make Calanais so special, this exciting initiative will safeguard our work with the Standing Stones for years to come.

Role Purpose

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a creative and motivated Digital Engagement Officer to play a key role in enhancing the Centre’s digital presence and community engagement.
As a Digital Engagement Officer, you will be responsible for developing and managing our social media platforms, digital communications, and online engagement strategies. You will work closely with the Heritage Manager to create and deliver a cohesive engagement plan that connects the Centre with the local community and global audiences.

You'll collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to shape, develop, and deliver effective support services tailored to the needs of families. From managing a regional team to influencing local and national strategies, this role is as rewarding as it is impactful.
Role Summary
Hours: 35 hours per week
Contract: Two years fixed term (subject to renewal where funds allow)
Starting salary: £37,827 - £41,039
Probation period: 6 months

- Build and maintain strong partnerships with community justice and local authorities, ensuring the voices of families are heard.
- Develop and improve family support services to meet regional needs, monitoring effectiveness and driving positive change.

Launched in 1824, HMS Unicorn is the third oldest ship in the world still afloat and Scotland's only surviving wooden warship. Now an Accredited Museum in Dundee's City Quay, visitors can explore four decks that offer a unique glimpse into 19th century naval life.
Our mission is to deliver a world-class museum experience while safeguarding HMS Unicorn's future and making our collections accessible to all. We aim to inspire visitors and staff alike, providing lifelong learning and engagement opportunities for our local communities and beyond.
The Unicorn Preservation Society has recently secured nearly £1 million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to advance Project Safe Haven - our ambitious conservation initiative to relocate HMS Unicorn to Dundee's East Graving Dock. This critical move will ensure the long-term preservation of this irreplaceable maritime treasure while creating a purpose-built visitor centre that will transform Dundee's historic waterfront and enhance community engagement.
This role is made possible through National Lottery Heritage Fund support and represents an exciting opportunity to join our team at a pivotal moment in HMS Unicorn's 200-year history.
Main Purpose of Role
The Chief Financial & Administration Officer holds overall responsibility for the financial management of the Unicorn Preservation Society and the shore-based office in Dundee City Centre. This includes comprehensive financial oversight, administrative leadership, and support for Project Safe Haven. The role will be central to implementing financial procedures to support the organisation's growth and strategic objectives.
As a key member of the senior management team, you will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Trustees, Fundraising & Communication and Project Safe Haven teams to ensure robust financial governance, strategic financial planning, and effective administrative support across the organisation.
