Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to join our Secretariat on a fixed-term basis, supporting the Society Secretary in delivering a key project aimed at modernising and streamlining the governance structures. This role will involve working closely with the Society Secretary to coordinate and support governance activities across RHASS and its subsidiaries.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Society Secretary in a range of governance-related tasks, including assisting with the drafting and coordination of important governance documents such as terms of reference, roles and responsibilities, delegated authorities, and policies. The role will also involve taking accurate minutes during meetings and ensuring timely follow-up on action points.

What You’ll Do

Governance Structure Project:

  • Drafting key governance documents such as terms of reference, schemes of delegation, roles and responsibilities, in alignment with RHASS’s constitutional requirements, charity law, and governance best practices.

Secretariat Support:

  • Assist the Society Secretary in the effective coordination of governance activities across RHASS and its subsidiaries.
  • Maintain accurate trustee records, and manage the archive of Board and Committee papers, minutes, and other governance documents and processes.

Additional Duties:

  • Assist the Society Secretary in the implementation of governance-related audit recommendations.
  • Support the Society Secretary in arranging the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Key Skills and Experience (Essential):

  • Qualified or part-qualified member of the Chartered Governance Institute (CGIUK), with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar governance role.
  • Proven experience in researching governance requirements and drafting key documents such as policies, terms of reference, delegated authorities, and other governance-related materials.
  • Strong knowledge of data protection requirements and the ability to implement risk management frameworks (desirable).
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Experience using electronic board or meeting portals (desirable).

Other Desirable Skills:

  • Proactive with excellent attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all governance documentation and processes.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to liaise with senior management, trustees, and key stakeholders.
