Duncan Place Community Hub is a friendly, welcoming and inclusive hub in the heart of Leith. The charity provides a brilliant programme of community events, is financially sound and has a great team of staff managing the day-to-day tasks. There are currently seven Trustees from a variety of backgrounds and Duncan Place is now looking to welcome five more to the board. Trustees play an integral part in developing the strategic direction of the organisation, ensuring its good governance and overseeing the delivery of the organisation’s aims and objectives.

Experienced trustees are welcome, but you don’t have to have been a trustee before. Enthusiasm and a willingness to share your skills and offer guidance to your fellow trustees and staff is what we’re after. We’d especially like to add expertise in financial management, staff development, funding applications, information technology and legal knowledge in the areas of leases and contracts. Current trustees have skills in property, facilities management, marketing, treasury skills and community involvement. Further skills in these areas are also always welcome.

About Duncan Place Community Hub

Duncan Place Community Hub is a registered charity operating as a social enterprise. After being under threat of demolition, the building was saved by the local community, a charity was established, and funds were raised for a full refurbishment. Now a thriving and busy community centre in Leith, the hub has a growing programme of groups, classes and events. This brings folks together to share and learn, increase well-being, and reduce social isolation. Through providing secure and affordable long-term tenancies, the hub is also home to several other charities. Income from the long term leased space and from low cost activity fees means that the charity is financially healthy and has decent reserves. This innovative model means that the charity is able to use funds raised to respond to the communities needs without the need to rely on short term funding.

Training Details

Current board members and the manager of the charity will provide induction and ongoing support. Online training for the role of a charity trustee is available through Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations Council (EVOC).

Flexibility & Commitment

6 to 10 in-person evening meetings per year. These are 1.5-2hrs long. Occasional sub-group work may be required.

A minimum 12-month commitment is desirable. The Constitution allows for up to 6 terms of office.

Watch Us Grow is a charity based in Palacerigg Country Park on the outskirts of Cumbernauld. We work with adults who have Additional Support Needs. Our aim is to help people become more independent both at home and within the communities they live. We do this by creating purposeful, educational and work style roles that build skills, knowledge and self confidence in our students. We work both outside in our public garden growing and selling plants and inside our house where we learn the skills to live more independently.

Job Description

The job will involve you driving a 9-seater minibus and a van. So clean driving license is required.

We are looking for someone to join our team as a project worker on our home skills and hospitality project. You will be supporting our students to learn how to live more independently in their own home or taking a more active role in a shared home. This will include cooking, cleaning, laundry, organizing home spaces, shopping and identifying any other needs each student may have and working on it with them. You will work with students to create a clear 8-week personalized schedule of learning; you will support students with positivity, patience and clarity and at a pace that works for each student individually.

You will also be part of a team developing a new opportunity which will see students working directly with the public serving refreshments.

Watch us Grow is looking for a person who enjoys keeping a house tidy and in order. Someone who has experience in housekeeping, catering or hospitality but most importantly someone who can guide and support our students to thrive. You will be guiding students, documenting all their achievements and activities, working towards personal goals for each individual, inspiring students to learn more and providing them with a purposeful role.

You will also be part of our weekly social activity evenings which include arts and crafts projects, movie clubs, games night and sports activities.

This job will involve you being creative, organized, good at planning, able to engage imaginations and keep things evolving. We are an organization that embrace and try out creative ideas.

Watch Us Grow is known primarily for its work outdoors in the garden, we teach about horticulture, wildlife and nature, we grow fruit, vegetables and flowers. You will be required to work outside at times, we are a small team and work together on everything.

You will report to the General Manager and work within an existing and established staff team to develop Watch Us Grow in new and exciting directions.

You will need to be enthusiastic and patient, showing an understanding of people with additional support needs. You will have experience in either Housekeeping, Catering or Hospitality in a commercial, You will need to be creative, friendly and engaging.

Duties and responsibilities

1. Collect and drop off students before and after a shift. (Shared role)
2. Support our students and volunteers in all aspects of their work offering an experience which is purposeful and fulfilling both physically and mentally.
3. Ensure a safe working practice which will keep all areas safe for visitors, members, volunteers and staff.
4. Ensure that all Health & Safety and Hygiene legislation is adhered to.
5. Help to create and deliver engaging projects for our students.
6. Help students to complete in-house and external qualifications.
7. Working some evenings and weekends on social activities or on other fund raising events
8. Work closely with all of the Watch Us Grow staff team
9. Work that may include representing and promoting the values and work of Watch Us Grow at events
10. Any other tasks and activities as reasonably required to fulfil the needs of the organisation.
11. Driving a minibus and vans for work related reasons.
12. Working in the garden when required.

Corstorphine Community Centre (CCC) is a charity running a shop and Hub collaborating with other local organisations to provide a range of activities across the local area.

To oversee all aspects of the Hamilton District Foodbank operation and ensure alignment to the agreed operating model as follows:

• Recruiting volunteers including interviews, reference checks, disclosure checks (as required), and obtaining signed confidentiality / GDPR agreements
• Recruiting and supporting Duty Co-ordinators
• Organising and facilitating volunteer training
• Ensuring that all volunteers adhere to the confidentiality agreement
• Ensuring that the Foodbank meets Health and Safety standards
• Ensuring that the Foodbank meets Environmental Health standards
• Developing, maintaining and ensuring compliance to policies and procedures (e.g. Safeguarding)
• Maintaining awareness of the benefit system and any changes to it, and understanding and responding to the impact of those changes on the Foodbank operation and future plans
• Communicating with all the relevant people including churches, volunteers, Trussell Trust, Referring Agencies and Committee members
• Ensuring that the Foodbank maintains the online database, website, and social media
• Communicating with local media and positively promoting the Foodbank service
• Organising Foodbank representation at Community events
