About East Lothian Foodbank (ELFB)
ELFB provides food and other essential items to local people to give immediate help in an emergency situation to
those who are experiencing poverty in East Lothian. Our mission is the prevention and relief of poverty in East
Lothian through the provision of emergency food, signposting services and ‘More than Food’ projects, working
with service users and in partnership with our stakeholders.
As an independent Scottish charity, we are fortunate to also be part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported
by The Trussell Trust, working towards combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
About the Role
We are currently seeking a communications and admin officer role, based within our foodbank in Tranent. This is a new
and exciting role available to work within a small and dynamic team, to help us ensure the consistent delivery
and day to day functions of our foodbank.
This is a combined role, with most of the focus on communication functions. You will assist in the development of
daily social media, team, service user, key partner, and supporter communication. By creating high quality
content and resources using a range of online applications. Alongside this, a smaller part of the role will
include daily office tasks as needed.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual, who is quick to learn with a can-do attitude!
Key Responsibilities
Comms –
- Planning and creating high quality content for our social media, key partners and supporters in line with brand
guidelines
- Using online applications to create and draft such content and documentation – such as Canva,
Buffer (scheduling applications)
- Managing and updating a range of social media
platforms.
- Managing and updating the ELFB website
- Creating and circulating team/supporter
newsletters and thank you letters
- Working with staff to help assist and promote their work, where
required
Office functions –
- Create occasional reports to support foodbank activities across all functions
- Maintain administrative
systems and ensure they are up to date
- Assisting and responding to any public queries
- Managing
our main email inbox
- A small range of office admin tasks when required – printing, emailing, answering
calls, ordering office supplies
About You
Essential -
- Experience of handling communications and developing content across online platforms
- Excellent
communication skills
- Creative and ability to understand how to tailor messages to a range of
audiences
- Enthusiastic and able to take initiative
- Fantastic digital experience and able to
quickly learn new online applications
- A commitment to the vision and mission of the
ELFB
- Experience using a range of Office365 applications and Google suite
- Have a can-do
attitude
Desirable –
- Experience in the third/voluntary sector
