What you’ll need to be successful

The postholder will be the volunteering team lead on the strategic and cross-organisational approach to volunteer communications and engagement, ensuring our volunteers feel connected and committed to Victim Support Scotland and have the information and updates they need to carry out their roles. This involves acting as a source of expertise around volunteer communications and engagement and being a key enabler of engagement initiatives. For example, the postholder will keep up to date with innovative practice around volunteer engagement and retention, making recommendations to colleagues about new approaches, driving forward key programmes and projects such as Volunteers’ Week and advising and empowering colleagues and stakeholders to value and recognise volunteers. Alongside these responsibilities, the postholder will work closely with other members of the volunteering team on shared ongoing responsibilities within the team. These include the delivery of our volunteering strategy, the recruitment and induction of volunteers, and supporting the onboarding and offboarding of volunteers.

What you’ll need to be successful

The ideal candidate will be used to working independently as well as part of a team and be able to demonstrate experience of managing a challenging workload in a busy environment to meet deadlines. The postholder will be the volunteering team lead on a people driven, strategic and cross-organisational approach to learning and development for both our volunteers and volunteer line managers. This role ensures that VSS volunteers and the staff who manage and support them have the skills and knowledge they need to carry out their roles. Acting as a source of expertise, the postholder will be up to date with current theories and practice relating to learning and development. They will drive forward key programmes such as a review of our learning and development offer for volunteers, contribute to the delivery of VSS current volunteer learning and development programme and advise and support colleagues and stakeholders around learning. Alongside these responsibilities, the postholder will work closely with other members of the volunteering team on shared ongoing responsibilities within the team. What is the role

Reporting directly to the Head of Service, you will be responsible for a team of Co-ordinators who in turn manage groups of volunteers to deliver and evaluate the support to victims and witnesses, our service users, at local court and community-based services. You will be responsible for ensuring, within your services, that VSS’s organisational objectives are being implemented at a local level and have a role in business planning to ensure that all service users within your local area are aware of, and have access to, the support they need. You will be responsible for all aspects of people management for staff in your area, ensuring that employees and volunteers are supported, knowledgeable and capable to deliver the support that meets service user’s needs. This role will also have thematic responsibilities across the national service delivery team; thematic responsibilities will be agreed dependent on the skill set of the applicant. The area covers: Argyll, Highlands, Moray, Orkney, the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland, covering 13 courts across the Highlands and Islands locality.

Location: Inverness office, with travel across the locality and further afield being an expectation of this role. (Expenses will be covered)

We offer a 28 hour working week. You will also join a rota of Service Managers to provide remote management support around the country on an on-call basis. You will receive an additional allowance for this. The expectation for the on-call is to cover approx 4 times a year Monday-Sunday until 8am - 8pm. During this time we would anticipate approximately 1-2 hours of support across the on-call period which you will be able to reclaim in TOIL.

Salary: £34,974.73 - £46,187.00 (Pro-rata) + on call allowance

What you’ll need to be successful

We are looking for a dynamic, driven, and motivated individual with a proven track record in managing and supporting the delivery of high-quality support and staff within our community and court services across the Highland & Islands area. You must have a degree qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience, continuing professional development and the ability to plan and organise complex workloads with shifting deadlines in order to meet specific targets, ensuring quality output. Good verbal and written communications skills, along with the ability and confidence to develop effective internal and external relationships which deliver organisational goals. And willingness to be flexible in working hours and able to travel as required. In return you will receive, regular training, supervision and opportunities to expand your skills including learning about the criminal justice system.

What is the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Support Co-ordinator , working 35 hours per week.

Working pattern: Monday to Friday 8am and 8pm and Saturdays between 10am to 4pm

Primary location: Aberdeen. However, the post holder will be supporting service delivery across the whole locality, with travel across the area. Our service delivery model is outreach to meet the needs of people impacted by crime.

Reporting directly to a Locality Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring, within your Service(s), that VSS’s local service development and delivery plan is being implemented within your geographical area(s). Service delivery is provided by a team of skilled and knowledgeable volunteers, you will be responsible for planning their deployment to ensure that the service delivered meets the desired outcomes of victims and witnesses of crime, our service users. Responsible for all aspects of a volunteer engagement with VSS at your services, including recruitment, induction, learning and development, ongoing performance management and support. Contributing to business planning and co-ordination ensuring that continuous learning takes place to monitor that the outcomes of service users are being met.

What you’ll need to be successful

We are looking for someone who is experienced in a similar role and can evidence of continuing professional development, effective leadership style, able to build confidence, motivate and improve performance with a clean full driver licence. Analytical skills, must be able to understand, collect, analyse, report and present data. The ability to challenge stereotyping, prejudice, discrimination and bias. Good working knowledge of the voluntary/charity sector is required, as is a willingness to be flexible in working hours and able to travel as required.
