What will you do as Chief Officer?
BTA is excited to present an outstanding opportunity to join ReTweed as Chief Officer.
The Chief Officer will lead ReTweed into its next phase of growth and development. As the Chief Officer, you will be responsible for providing visionary leadership, managing operations, and driving our strategic objectives. You will work closely with the Board of Trustees to ensure the charity’s mission is effectively communicated and implemented while engaging with the community, stakeholders, and partners to promote our initiatives and values.
Key responsibilities include:
- Strategic Leadership – Develop and implement the charities strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the mission and values. Lead the organisation in identifying opportunities for growth and innovation.
- Board Engagement – Collaborate with the Board of Trustees, providing regular updates and insights on organisational performance, challenges, and strategic initiatives.
- Operational Management – Oversee the daily operations of ReTweed, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of programs and services. Implement policies and procedures that promote operational excellence.
- Financial Oversight – Manage the charities finances, including budgeting, financial planning, and reporting. Ensure compliance with funding requirements and maintain effective relationships with funders and stakeholders.
- Team Leadership – Lead, motivate, and develop a diverse team of staff and volunteers. Develop a positive organisational culture that encourages collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Community Engagement – Build and maintain relationships with local communities, stakeholders, and partners to enhance ReTweeds visibility and impact. Advocate for the charity’s mission and values within the community and beyond.

Essential Criteria:

- Strategic Leader Experience – Proven experience in strategic leadership, with the ability to develop and implement long-term plans that drive organisational growth.
- Experience Working with the Board – Significant experience collaborating with a board of directors, facilitating effective governance and strategic decision-making.
- 4+ Years Managerial Experience – A minimum of four years of managerial experience, demonstrating strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Knowledge of Funding Mechanisms and Processes – Familiarity with various funding sources, grant writing, and compliance requirements to support the charity’s financial sustainability.
- Passion for the ReTweed Cause – A genuine commitment to the mission of ReTweed, inspiring others to engage with and support our initiatives.
- Change Management – Experience in leading change initiatives, with the ability to manage resistance and communicate effectively with stakeholders throughout transitions.

The person
We are looking for someone with significant experience in managing and motivating staff – preferably with experience as a Chief Executive or senior role.
The candidate must have a deep knowledge of Edinburgh’s voluntary sector and experience public, private, and voluntary sectors. They should have a proven track record in service development and delivery with an ability to deliver on contract outcomes and key deliverables. Excellent communication skills are required alongside the ability to build effective professional cross-sector relationships.
Financial and project management skills are essential. Experience in developing funding strategies is required, along with a demonstrable ability to develop and implement income generating and fundraising activities.

PURPOSE OF POST:
- To effectively coordinate the delivery of all trainee activity across multiple Giraffe sites
- To build and maintain strong relationships with partner organisations
- To effectively manage the recording, tracking and reporting of all trainee activity.

- Ensure effective practices and procedures are in place, providing staff training as required
MAIN DUTIES:
Strategic/ Operational:
- Drive internal projects and activities to support and enhance the trainee journey
- Develop new initiatives and partnerships to provide excellent outcomes for trainees
- Build and maintain strong working relationships both internally and externally
- Provide verbal and written reports as required by the Chief Executive and for the Board
Financial:
- Work closely with the Operations Manager/ CEO to oversee budget for activities and trainee focused projects
Trainees:
- Manage pipeline of trainee referrals, ensuring individuals are matched with appropriate opportunities based on goals and support needs
- Act as the main point of contact for trainees before, during and after their placement, offering advice and information face to face and by telephone/ email
- Oversee a caseload of 30-40 trainee placements at any one time
- Write/ share support plans with wider team for each new trainee
- Provide hands on support daily to ensure each trainee gets the most out of their experience, and to support the wider staff team
- Regular communication and interaction with referrers, parents, carers and external services to support individual journeys
- Organise and oversee all formal training (both in house and external) e.g. Modern apprenticeships, food hygiene, first aid etc.
- Support individuals with their progression to positive destinations e.g. into employment/volunteering or further education/training
- Complete all database data entry as required, ensuring correct processes are followed at each stage of the trainee journey
- Provide reports including case studies as required
Volunteers:
- Work with the Activities & Volunteer Coordinator to assess and monitor volunteer requirements for all trainee related activity
- Assist with volunteer meetings, inductions, training and reviews
HSEQ:
- Write and update risk assessments as required
- Uphold and implement all policies and procedures throughout all aspects of the work of the organisation
- Identify and organise staff training
General
- Contribute to the impact of the organisations functions through improving internal systems and identifying and implementing cost and time saving measures

ANNUAL LEAVE
29 days per annum on appointment increasing to 34 days upon 3 years’ service.
LOCATION
The successful candidate will be required to work across all Giraffe sites, including our café on South Street, Community Kitchen in the Friarton area of Perth, and our office building which is also located in Friarton. There will be a requirement to occasionally work offsite to support trainees and provide training/ information sessions to partner organisations.
